– Hey my name is Russell Brunson. I want to welcome you to my channel. I’m so excited to have you here. But today I’m gonna be talking about a five-part video series I’m doing right now. It was actually an interview I did with this man right here. Grrr, his head got really big. Tai Lopez and I was actually in California.

This was a couple of months ago. I was out in California and I actually messaged Tai and he said hey come on over to the Tai mansion, hanging out and we’ll do an interview. So I got there super late it was like 11:30 at night and I was like there’s no way we’re doing this interview.

And sure enough we showed up. He fed me and then about one o’clock in the morning. If you’ve every been to Tai’s house or seen it he broke out like 400 cameras. He had cell phones galore for Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, networks I’ve never even heard of and we did this interview and it turned out really, really cool and I wanted to share it with you.

So the very first part of this interview Tai’s asking about how we built ClickFunnels™ from zero to 100 million dollars and the first thing we talked about is how you actually build a movement. I talked about the movements that ClickFunnels™ has built. We talked about some of our success stories. Like LadyBoss and the movement they’ve created and a whole bunch of other stuff.

With that said let’s jump into part one of this interview series with me and Tai Lopez. (stormy thunder) – Russell, take me back three years ago you decide to launch this company, called ClickFunnels™. Are you now number one competitor with Shopify? – I think so, I don’t know anyone else that’s come close, so I’m pretty sure. – And you did this, you have five kids, you live in Idaho, for all of you to live in smaller markets. – It still works. – So what was the feeling to go from zero and three years later doing one hundred million bucks here. – That was never the goal. I mean the goal is like try to do whatever.

But it’s funny because about four years ago when we had the idea and we were like can we do this. Like a lot of people have tried it before. I even tried it before. Luckily I had a co-founder in Todd Dickerson who was technically able to build it. And he spent about a year building it and then it came back and it was just amazing. And so I’m like all right let’s sell this.

That’s my job to be the guy selling it and talking about it and trying to build the excitement behind it. It’s crazy cause it took off. At first it was kind of slow it took a while to figure out how to sell and how to get people excited about it. And then when it started working and then triggering success stories, people having success with it and more it started growing and growing and the last three years has been nuts. –

So, let’s go through this. Marketing, cause a lot of people are listening in are people who have an idea and they want to grow it. One of your secrets is not just selling a product but creating a movement. – [Russell] Yeah. – Tell me about that. Cause that’s really your number one. I asked you the number one thing you think is responsible for growth and those of you listening should emulate. You’ve written this book called Expert Secrets. You’ve got Robert Kiyosaki on the front cover recommending it and the Underground Playbook Defines your Message, Build A Tribe, and Change the World.

So why do people need to build a tribe? How do you do it? – [Russell] The market we’re going into there’s a lot of competitors, right? And all of them are like, there brands but there kind of nameless faces. There’s brands trying to do this thing right. And I remember about that time I went to a network marketing thing cause I had some friends and I wanted to see how these guys do their stuff. I show up in this room and there’s like four or five thousand people in this room and everyone’s going on stage and they’re crying and I was so confused. I’m like this is a software company, why are people crying. – (laughs) –

And person after person for two or three days and I’m so confused and finally I look over to one of my buddies and he said to me he said you know what they’re doing here? I was like I’ve got no idea but everyone’s crying, I’m confused. And he said they didn’t build a software company they created a movement. That’s why people are here. That’s why they’re coming. – So he’s saying they built a movement before they even branded this concept. –

Yeah as they were doing it. We were launching ClickFunnels™ and I was like if we’re just a software company like everybody else then we’re a commodity, right? If you’re a commodity then it’s like everyone is fighting for the lowest price and eventually you price yourself out and that’s how a lot of businesses happen. I was like we need to build something bigger where people are a part of this movement and they’re part of our tribe and they belong to this thing. And so about that time we were launching ClickFunnels™ and again at first it didn’t take off like I thought it was. I remember about two or three months into it I did a presentation about a concept we call Funnel Hacking which is like could we find somebody else as a funnel, you look at it and then you model it inside of ClickFunnels™. Our people started calling themselves funnelhackers.

I was like okay hey we’re funnelhackers. We started making T-shirts and everyone who signed up for our software make them watch a 10-minute video showing them how to use ClickFunnels™ and we mail them a T-shirt that says funnelhacker. Almost every week since we’ve launched ClickFunnels™ there’s been some the next ClickFunnels™ killer is coming out. I got emails from everyone forwarded and they’re like the competitor’s coming out. And so far I think there’s about thirty something that have come out and all of them have kind of fallen by the wayside and didn’t do much. –

You think that’s cause they weren’t movements like yours? – Yeah, well I asked some of my members how come you guys don’t try their software? Why aren’t you switching over? And they said because we’re part of this is like, this is not your company Russell. This is us, we’re funnelhackers, ClickFunnels™ are our tool, this is who we are. One guy, I remember he told me, he’s like I look at the ad long enough on my Facebook feed just long enough to laugh and then I scroll on.

Because I know that I’m a funnelhacker and I’m part of this movement. And so it’s like everyone is gonna try to beat us on pricing and things like that and it’s like no we built a community. We built a tribe of people who have a belief they’re going somewhere, there’s a vision what they’re all trying to do and that has been so huge in propelling us. they also share it We get organically about a thousand people a day that are signing up for ClickFunnels™. – And these are paid customers by the way. 55,000 paid customers. – Not free ones like most software. – Your free email list, how big is it? –

Over a million. – Over a million. – We’ve probably had about five hundred thousand or so that have actually created an account but yeah, 55,000 that are actively paying. – Paying you and it cost between what? – Between $100 and $300 a month. – 100 and 300 and then you’ve got some upgrades people can do. So, it is interesting we’re talking about this cause I was just reading this, I like to read textbooks even though I didn’t go to college. This is how I do my version of college.

So I was reading this book on, it’s just a psychology, Dr. David Russ, it’s a psychology book. He’s actually coming here tomorrow. He’s one of the most interesting guys in the world. And he’s talking about the rise of gang membership around the world. And he said it completely tracked the breakdown of the old family unit tribe. Gangs started to get big let’s say, I mean there’s always been some form of gang, but people want to belong to something. So now if you can build a business, you see that with Lady Gaga. She called her fans wasn’t it like Little Monsters or something like that?

And Justin Bieber what do they call, beliebers. – (chuckle) So one our top success stories we’re talking about in the book a lot. She’s in the weight loss space and her maiden name was Tool. She was always like Tool Time trainer. It was tough because people didn’t self identify with that. – Right. – And so she heard this for the first time, she was at an event we did and on the flight home she was like I need to change this to something that my people will associate with. It was tough for her because her business at that point had been her name. And she’s like that’s not big enough for everybody else. And so on the flight home she was thinking about ideas and all of a sudden she had this idea.

She’s like I’m gonna rebrand it as LadyBoss Weight Loss. And my winners are gonna be LadyBosses. And they went home and deleted their whole business which was doing well, rebranded it, launched this thing called LadyBosses and if you look at here movement right now they have over a hundred thousand women who have purchased their program so they’re in this thing. They do these swag drops. – Swag drops. – She’s like I’ve got my LadyBoss swag and she’ll come in and she’ll reveal it and they’ll have, so for a short period of time, and I’m not allowed to share their numbers, but they will sell so much clothing in a finite period of time to all the LadyBosses. Cause they have these shirts that say I’m a LadyBoss and they have all these quotes that people self identify with. – Yeah. –

And when they took it from a brand like from their name to this thing that’s bigger like people can identify with. – I just want to reiterate, I’ve seen this over and over. Even what I do. Knowledge Society is one of the names of one of my companies. And it’s not even something I tried to brand. And I see my employees latching on to that because you can’t latch on to being Tai Lopez, that’s just one person. But being attached to Knowledge Society is like this higher purpose and if you look at Maslow’s hierarchy of needs there’s five levels of needs. Physiological is at the base foundation.

And you have number two you have safety. And then number three you have love and number four you have status and respect. But number five is self actualization or actualization to a higher purpose. And that’s where people find god and they find, like Mahatma Gandhi and his movement to gain independence for his country. Martin Luther King Junior, Abraham Lincoln. And so what you’re doing is you’re applying those same principles to a brand. And it took you from zero to a hundred million dollars a year. –

The thing about the big brands, the ones that have done a really good job in the last generation have done that. Look at Apple. – [Tai] Biggest company in the world, Apple. – [Russell] Apple self-identify with that. Like there’s Apple users and there’s everybody else. There’s that thing, you look at shoes, you look at clothing lines, the best brands have done that. For some reason most businesses, we don’t think think about that, it’s like well I sell this or I’m a financial planner or I’m in real estate. Those who start looking at a pattern. I’m a big pattern guy. You see a pattern it’s like okay, now that I know the pattern, how can I amplify that. So when we realize this is the pattern. In the book we’ll say how to create those movements.

But you understand the pattern it’s like okay how can I do this for my business and when I became aware of it then it’s like okay now that I know what it is I can amplify it. I know that these are the pieces of how to make this movement happen and like what are all the elements of a good movement and how to be the leader of that movement. And one of the things, when you understand it you can amplify it. – Yeah. – And most of them never know, they’re like I sell this thing. This is my business. – Tell us a little more. What did you build, was it just this hacker funnel kind of idea or funnel hacks or what did you identify with? –

You know I think the majority of our members they’re small entrepreneurs, they’re people who are still involved in their business. They’ve been marketing their business and they’re passionate about that. I was our customers like five or six years ago. I had ideas, things I wanted to get out but I didn’t know how to do that. I’m not a website designer or developer or anything. So I had to hire people and it was so slow and just frustrating.

So for me it was like when we made ClickFunnel I was able to as someone who is passionate about my product or my service I could just go and put it out there really, really fast. He’s like guess how many work for our company now?

– For the special question today, from our favorite network marketers, is how do I use funnels to get network marketing to work? There’s a lot of different ways I could answer this, but for some reason people think that their business is different. Always think is like “Oh cool, so I read the Dotcom Secrets book, “but it hasn’t worked for my business. “Alright Expert Secrets hasn’t worked for my business.”

I don’t care what business you’re in, business is business is all the same, the difference between network marketing, really is like your competing, you’re selling the exact same product as 1,000 other people, right? So the first step, is like Expert Secrets 101, how you create an offer right? ‘Cause if I’m competing with 1,000 or 10,000 or 100,000 or a million other distributors, I need to create an offer that’s sexy, that’s unique right? Business is all about making better offers.

So how do I create an offer that’s actually gonna sell my product better than everybody else’s? And some network marketing companies have problems with this so this is one that if you’re able to crank up the sexiness of your offer do it. Some companies don’t allow it, so you gotta be kind of careful with that. But if everybody else is offering this, how do I offer something different?

Those who don’t know my background, I spend a couple years, dabbling in the network marketing industry, and there’s a time when one company was giving away a Ferrari, and I was like, “That’d be really cool to win an Ferrari.” So I decided to win a Ferrari. So how do I do that? Step number one, I looked at me and 100,000 other distributors all selling the exact same products, I said okay, “I have to make a better offer.” So I took what everybody was selling, I said, “Okay everyone is selling this, “how do I make this better?” I was like, “Cool.”

“Well if you join me, “I’m gonna give you what everybody else is gonna give you, “I’m also gonna give you this and I’m gonna give you this “and I’m gonna give you this, I’m gonna give you this.” I created a package that’s special just for people who signed up with me, to push them over the edge. There’s a lot of people who’re like, “Ah these people on the fence, “they’re not gonna sign up with anybody.” I got them to join me, because I made a better offer. So that’s number one.

And then I won a Ferrari, so that was awesome. That’s step number one. Number two, Is a lot of new marketing companies aren’t going to allow you to just directly sell online. It’s a thing a lot of them have. So what we do, is we go back to the fundamentals, to the basics. And it comes back really to Expert Secrets okay? And we see this all the time to recently a very well known company, I was friends, I am friends with the owners, just went under. And it was interesting that a lot of people lost their businesses over night right?

But the people who didn’t were the people who followed this process. ‘Cause they realize that like if you just send all your people to the company, the company owns all these people. The most valuable asset in any business, is the people. So you gotta be in the business of you first. So all I do is I create a very simple linning page, and it’s gonna be like, in fact, depending on what I’m doing, usually I make two different lining pages.

The big thing about market networkers, that’s different that tradition businesses, there’s two target markets, Two target markets. So first target market is the who person who actually wants to consume the product. So a lot of networking, products are for health? So there’s like the product consumers, and then there’s the business opportunity seekers.

What’s interesting is that a lot of times, people join a company because they’re obsessed with product. Other times people join the opportunity cause they’re obsessed with the actual opportunity. And it’s rare that people love both initially. Usually one or the other drives them right? So for me, I build a different lining page and a different funnelfor each one. So I’d have something here like Hey if you want to discover houseable equipment “part time job and win this sweet pink, what is it? What is the pink Cadillac.

Then often here and I’ll tell you how alright? So now I’m going to get people who’re like, “They quit your job and got a pink Cadillac? “That’s awesome.” So they’re gonna opt in because they wanna find out more about the business opportunity right? Or I could be like for people who don’t want to buy the product, They think, “What’s this product? “This product helps people with whatever.” So you could be like, “Hey discover, “the rare salts, “that instantly within 30 minutes of taking them “will put your body into ketosis, “so you can loose weight faster” They’re like, “What are these weird salts?” And they’d opt in here, and now they’re about the product right? So they opt in here about the product. So then they’re joining my email list.

So both these things are joining my list. Now I build a list of people, who they like me, I’m gonna take them here I’m going to show them videos while I tell them stories, I’m going to build relationships, about the product or about the thing. And then basically somewhere along the line, I invite them to take my special offer. So back here again, if it’s like, “Hey here’s how I won my Cadillac and lost bunch of weight.” They opt in, next page like, “Cool I did it by joining this company, “it’s awesome. “This is how it works if you want to be part of it.

“You can join my team and I’m going to make you “a special offer if you join today. “You’re gonna get, “you’re gonna join but I’m also going to let you be “part of my private Facebook group. “I’ll be willing to coach you, “I’ll do three way calls with you, “I’ll do blah blah blah” Whatever it is your offer is and they sign up. And they come over to Facebook, and I drive Facebook ads, to my opt in page I’d be like, “But Facebook doesn’t let you drive people “into your in to your business opportunity right?” Well let me drive people to my company website, yeah of course they don’t you drive into your funnel. ‘Kay Facebook’s not going to let you shut you down because you’re showing a free video about how you won a pink Cadillac.

That’s what Facebook wants stuff like that. Facebook’s not gonna shut you down when you say like, “Here’s rare ancient salt that helps you put your body “into ketosis.” ‘Cause Facebook wants this stuff, they opt in and manage the video, and then the email sequence you email them over here. So a lot of this stuff that Facebook and other platforms allow you to do happen off the platform. But the key to this, and all business in case you were actually wondering, is the funnel. So that’s it just going back, setting up a funnel, building a relationship with the list as it comes to you. So Dotcom Secrets is the book about how you create the funnels.

Funnel structure funnel strategy right? So you build the funnels, and then it’s like how do I build a relationship with all these people coming through the funnel So that when I tell them they should buy this thing, they actually buy it. – [Russell Brunson] Hey, this is Russell Brunson and welcome to Webinar Funnel Secrets. Now, I wanna quickly show you how to use webinar funnels to run online events and to sell your products to the masses. And then, at the end of this video, I’m actually gonna give you my top converting webinar funnels for free. But before we do that, I wanna explain where webinar funnels came from, how they work, and how you can use them in your specific business. So, to show you initially, I wanna kinda walk you through the layout of what a webinar funnel looks like. Now, it’s a very simple process.

There’s a webinar registration page where you get somebody to register for the webinar, then there’s a confirmation page, where you thank them for being registered to the webinar. And with the webinar funnel, typically you’re integrating with some third part webinar software, like GoToWebinar or Zoom are the two most popular within the Click Funnels community.

So then, the webinar actually happens over there on the other platform, but what’s nice is, because you can control the registration process and the confirmation process, you’re able to get higher conversions and a lot of times, sell other products and services before people even come to the webinar, as I’ll show you here in a minute.

And as somebody registers for the webinar, and before the webinar starts, what we do is we send them emails and take them to what we call indoctrination pages, where each of these pages gives them a video or some kind of training to get them more excited about what’s gonna be happening on the web class. And we’ll have anywhere from one to three confirmation pages, typically, in a normal webinar funnel. And then after the webinar’s over, then we usually set up a webinar replay page where we post the webinar replay and then we send emails to the people who registered for the webinar to go watch the replay before we take it down. And so, that’s kinda what a basic webinar funnel looks like.

Now, if we were to take this and plug in some actual pages, this is kinda what it would look like. First page, they register, then the confirmation page, here’s the indoctrination page as we send them videos, getting them excited about what’s happening, and then the replay page happens at the end. Okay, so the first question I wanna answer is where do webinars actually come from?

A lot of people have never even heard that word before they get into Click Funnels. And so, a webinar is basically like a web class. It’s like a seminar that’s happening on the internet. Now, in the past, the way that I used to sell a lot of products and services is that I would go to live events like this, I’d stand in front of 1000 or 10000 people and I would teach them something, and then at the end, I would sell my products or my services, and that’s how I made my living for almost a decade.

But then, fast forward to technology started catching up and making things easier, and now I do most of my business, I do it through webinars where I’m actually at my home or sitting here in my office, and there might be 1000, or 2000, 5000 people registered who are watching from all around the world, I do my same webinar presentation, I teach and I train them, and at the end of it, then I can sell them a product or a service. And so, that’s kinda what a webinar is is a live event, but it’s happening on the internet.

And what’s cool about it is that you can do these and make as much money as you would normally from the comfort of your home, as opposed to having to travel, and get hotels, and all sorts of things that go into a traditional live event, okay? Now, some examples of some webinar funnels. These are just some layouts of some of the ones we’ve done in the past, this one where Kaelin, the Lady Boss, talked about Click Funnels.

This is another one of our webinar registration pages, and here’s another one selling, these are all selling software, or trainings, or other things. Webinars have been used to sell pretty much everything on planet Earth, from supplements, training courses, to consulting, to coaching, webinars work good to sell almost any type of product you can think of. So here is how it works.

Okay, the first page, the first step here is to get them to register for the web class, okay? So that’s what the first page in the funnel does. Then the second page after they’ve registered for the web class, then you basically thank them for registering. Sometimes you may make them a special offer, and I’ll talk about that here in a minute. But basically you’re thanking them, and then the last page here inside this funnel is where you post the actual replay, so that’s kinda how a webinar funnel works. It’s very simple and very easy. Okay, so again, here’s the layout, and then there’s one more piece here to talk about, the indoctrination pages.

So, indoctrination pages, these are pages we create that, usually for me, they have videos, or I’m getting people excited about what’s happening in the training, and indoctrinating them, getting them excited. Some people call these presuasion pages, where you’re getting them excited before they actually show up to the web class. So, this is an example of what an indoctrination page may look like.

Now, a lot of people do webinars without these, it just helps to kinda increase show up rate, and it actually increases the people buying something at the end of the webinar because they’ve been indoctrinated from you through these videos here in the sequence, okay? So, what are the products and services that work for webinar funnels? Like I said, all sorts of things. You can use it to sell courses, to sell products, to sell software, I’ve seen people use it to sell supplements, high-end coaching, business practices, services.

Pretty much everything you can dream of can be sold on an actual webinar, okay? So, here’s some of the best practices on how webinar funnel works. So, the first page here, some of the core, most important things. First step, I like to call out, like, who is this webinar actually for? So, you notice in this one it says, “Attention: Entrepreneurs, Small Business Owners, “Online Marketers, and Marketing Agencies,” so they know, like, this is who it’s for. The second step is like having a curiosity-based headline.

The more curiosity you have, the more like someone is to register, the more likely they are to actually show up. In fact, when I have a webinar page that’s not converting very well, the biggest thing I do is I come back and try to increase the curiosity to get people excited. Okay, so curiosity is the key on a registration page. The second page is where we thank them. Now, on the thank you page, we’re not using curiosity nearly as much as a couple other things. The first thing is, we’re thanking them for registering.

The second thing is, whereas the first page is all curiosity, the thank you page is all about excitement, getting them excited for what they’re about to experience. If you get them excited here, they’re more likely to make sure they show up, to put it on their calendar, to make sure they don’t sleep in or forget about it. The more excited you get them here, the more likely they are to show up and participate in the event that you’re putting on. And then the last thing, this isn’t necessary, but a lot of times, what I do on this page is I give them, I make them an offer. We call this a self-liquidating offer.

This is where we tell them, like, hey, in this example here I say, go get a free trial of Click Funnel. Sometimes I might sell a book, or I push ’em into one of my other funnels where I’m selling a lower ticket product. Now, a lot of times, this self-liquidating offer here will actually cover the entire cost of my advertising cost to get people to register for the web class.

Now, that’s kind of a more advanced thing and it’s not necessary, but I wanted to kinda put it out there for those of you guys who may wanna do something like that on your thank you pages. Now, the next page, obviously at this point, like we said before, is that that webinar now is gonna happen in some third party service like GoToWebinar or Zoom, and then after you get the recording of that presentation back, then you can create a replay page, and usually we’ll post that replay page up for 24 to 48 hours, we’ll send emails to everybody who registered and tell them now go watch this video before it disappears, and that gets people to actually go and watch and consume your presentation.

Okay, now, in the past, if you wanted to create a webinar funnel like that, it was complicated, right? You had to get designers, and then webmasters, and programmers, and analytics people, and a whole bunch more. But the good news is that now, because you’re here today here on Click Funnels, you no longer have to do that. We have a better way, we have a faster way. So, instead of doing all that, instead, what you can do is you can just use our share funnels. So, I’m gonna log into Click Funnels real quick right now and show you how easy it is to actually customize any of these webinar pages. All right, now I’m on the exact same page you’re on, so I come right here, I can scroll around, I can look at all the different templates till I find the one that I like the best. So I’m gonna click on this one right now, I click on Select This Funnel button. Now it’s gonna take that entire funnel, it’s gonna copy it into my Click Funnels account, build all the pages, and have ’em all set up there so I can start working on it immediately.

Then I click right here on the View Funnel button. And that fast, you guys, this funnel’s ready for me to start building. On the left hand side here, you’ll see here’s all the different pages we talked about earlier, and so we can go through and edit all these pages and make ’em match my brand. For right now, I’m gonna edit just one to show you how simple and easy it is. I click on edit page. This is gonna take me inside the Click Funnels editor, and this is where the fun begins. I click right here, I pick a word, I can start typing things and editing that fast. Hey, how are you doing? I can go right here and let’s say I don’t like this image.

I can click on the settings, I can change the image for one of my own, I can upload it really quickly or just grab one from here, and boom, that fast, the page is changed. If I don’t like something, I can grab something, I can move it around, I can drag and drop things really easily, if I wanna change the colors, I can. But this is how easy Click Funnels is, you guys. You don’t have to be technical. If you can drag and drop, you can build a funnel here inside of Click Funnels. That’s how simple and how easy it is. When I’m done with that, I can click on the save button, and then I can preview it, and that fast, my funnel is live.

Do you see how simple and how easy this really is? Now, if for some reason I don’t like something, I can come back in here and same thing, I can come back, I can drag things around, I can move ’em around to my heart’s content until the funnel looks exactly the way I want it to, and when I’m done, I click exit and I am done. Okay, so that was step number two, how to customize it. Now, one thing you’ll notice is that each of these pages right here, all three of these three pages that I’m showing you, this is all based on the same template.

All it is is I changed the image, I changed the headline, I changed the color, and that quick, I can make each of these look and match the look and the feel of whatever your brand is. Okay, so the better you get at Click Funnels, the easier it is to customize these things and really make them amazing. Okay, and then the third step is you go out there and you actually launch your webinar funnel, which is the most exciting thing. – Hey everyone, it’s Russell. Welcome back to the show. Today I’m gonna be answering a bunch of questions related to marketing and business, and growing your funnels and a whole bunch of other cool stuff, and the question I got right now from you guys is a conversion problem. The question is Russell, my sales funnel won’t convert, what are the common problems that prevent funnels you see from converting. Okay, I’m glad you asked this, ’cause this is like so much fun.

Alright so if you look at any funnel, right, there’s different pieces of it. So part of it’s figuring out which piece it is, right. So over here you have like the ad. So let’s say this is Facebook and you have the news feed and here’s your friend, there’s your mom, and then all of a sudden there’s the ad in the middle. And then there’s other stuff here, and the stuff here.

Then over here you’ve got a landing page. I’ll put L.P. And over here you have a sales page, S.P. And this is your funnel, which is like the most important work in marketing is sales funnel, okay. Alright, so then the question is, my sales funnel’s not converting, what are the common problems that prevent funnels you see from converting? It always comes down to one of three things.

Number one, it’s a problem with your hook, okay. So what’s the hook? The hook is the thing, like someone’s on your phone right here, and they’re scrolling through like crazy, right, looking at stories from their friends, and their mom, and their grandma, and al of a sudden they see your ad and they keep…

The hook is anything that gets them to stop they what was that. It stops them from scrolling, grabs them and like says I need your attention. Okay, so your hook. If your hook is horrible here, if nobody’s clicking your ad. Or the hook is horrible here if nobody’s giving you their email address. Or the hook is horrible here if nobody’s giving you money. So first problem’s always the hook problem.

Number two is a story problem, okay. After you grab somebody you have their attention for five seconds, then you tell them the story about why they should click on your ad, why they should give you their email address, why you should… It’s always the second step is the story, right. After you have their attention, you tell them story about why. Why are they clicking on this ad? Why are they giving you email? Why are they giving you money? Okay, that’s your story.

Now if you’ve read the Expert’s Secrets book, in Expert Secrets I show you guys through story structure. I talk about epiphany bridge stories and a whole bunch of other things like that. If you haven’t read this yet, go find the sections here on story, how to tell your story the right way. Okay, and then the third is your offer. If your funnel’s not converting, the third reason why not is ’cause your offer just sucks. That’s why people aren’t giving you money. That’s it, it’s pretty simple.

So if your offer sucks, make a better offer. If nobody’s clicking your ad, it means you’re not giving them enough reason. Like, what’s the offer? Why am I clicking on your ad? I gotta keep scrolling through looking at cat pictures and weird stuff like that. Why should I stop and click on your button? What’s the offer? Well if you click on this button I’m gonna show you a case study about blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Oh cool, that’s a good offer I’m gonna click on that.

Then you come over here and I’m gonna give you my email address, I’m gonna give you this report, and if nobody gives you anything, it means nobody wants a report, the offer’s no good. So change it, maybe instead of a report, you have a video. You know give ’em these two or three things. Maybe I’ve gotta find something that’s sexier, right. You’re figuring out something, you gotta make a better offer. Or if they’re not giving you money, same reason.

The offer’s no good. Make better offer. If you make a better offer, people are more likely to actually give you money. It’s always one of those three things, either hook, story, offer. Now what’s important to understand is that every page in this process there’s a hook, a story, and a offer. There’s a hook on your ad.

There’s a story in your ad. There’s an offer on your ad. On the landing page, hook, story, offer. On your sales page, hook, story, offer. Everything that’s happening inside your funnel, and outside your funnel. Every piece, every email you get, there’s a hook, a story, an offer. In fact, you wanna see what works, go back to your email, go back to gmail whatever, scroll through, look at what emails you actually clicked on, and you’ll realize that there was a hook.

The subject line was a hook. Like, what was it that made you click on that subject line? And then open the email and look, did you click on the link? ‘Cause there’s some story in the email, and if you clicked on it then that hook and that story in the email got you there, and then look at the page, did you give ’em money? Did you give ’em your email address? If so, what was the hook, the story, offer on that page?

– [Russell] Hey everyone who is just tuning in my name is, Russell Brunson, and today we’re going to be talking about Facebook funnels, everyday I go through a bunch of questions you guys ask me, about building your company, and growing your traffic and your sales and your leads. And all sorts of fun stuff, and today we’re talking about Facebook funnels. So the question is, how do sales funnels and Facebook funnels match up? How should I be using Facebook?

So, that’s a good question and the strategy changes often, and there’s a lot of different ways, but imma kind of walk you guys through the basic principles that we focus on here at ClickFunnels™, as we’re growing ours. So, for me and for our team everything kind of starts at the offer level, right, so we figure out first off what is the offer we want to make, okay? So the offers like imma sell this and you’re gonna get this and then you’re gonna get this and we figure out the offer right? Then we come back and say okay cool, that’s the offer we’re getting, then how do we sell that. K, which this is usually, primarily, like the story. What’s the story we’re gonna use to sell it. And that’s like cool, here’s the story and maybe we’re gonna do that story on a webinar or a video sales letter or a long form sales letter. Or whatever, but there’s some story.

That we’re telling here, that’s gonna sell that offer. Right? Pretty simple. And then the last thing is like what is the hook we’re use to grab them, okay. And so the hook then for me, comes back here. Let’s say this is Facebook or Youtube or whatever platform you’re selling on, now I can’t to kind if caveat real quick. Every step in this process, there’s going to be a hook, story and offer. There’s a hook, story and offer in Facebook and there’s a hook story and offer in the sales video. There’s a hook story offer in the upselling, every piece has that, but as an overarching strategy, if you look at it from a high level. It’s like, the macro before the micro. The macro is like the ad is like the hook, right.

Then the sales message, the funnel, is the story and what you’re selling is the actual offer. K, so if you come back to our core framework of hook, story, offer, k so this is the macro looking down. Now the micro looking down, again is our hook, story, offer in each, every single element of this. But for this question, we’re gonna get to the bigger one. Alright, so the question is, how do sales funnels and Facebook match up? So for me its like, these two things are tying together. Very very similar, right, Facebook is the group of people So over here there’s all these people all of these dream customers are over here, Facebook, Youtube or whatever you want to target makes it simple for us, who are the exact customers who want our products right. So when I started selling my, the book Dotcom Secrets.

I was like who are the people who would want this book, and I’m like K its entreprenaurs who are mission driven, who are whatever right, and I figure out exactly who those people are, and Facebook gives me the ability to like find out exactly who those people are so I can target them perfectly, right. So I’ll put it like a target here like we can find exactly who we’re trying to target, almost perfectly on Facebook, K. Now, the goal of this Facebook is to set the hook, right. So people on their feed, and they’re scrolling through their feed as fast as they can.

They’re doing it at their desk, they’re doing it in the bathroom, they’re doing it while they’re walking, they’re doing it while they’re driving, its horrible! But, that’s what we’re doing right. And your job in Facebook, the first step of the funnel is to stop them, and grab them and hook em right. So we hook em, get their attention for just long enough to send them over here, okay. And so that’s kind of the first step, it’s like, it’s the prefunnel, everything happening in Facebook is the prefnnel, right. And from here, then the message needs to match, okay. So whatever my, hook and stuff that’s gonna be over here on the sales page has to be similar to over here.

We’ve done funnels in the past where like our hook on the Facebook is amazing, then the come over here, there’s a mismatch, and doesn’t convert. No matter how good it is here or here, if there’s disconnect it doesn’t work, right. In fact a lot of times our headline for the ad will be the exact same line, that’s over here, right. So I want congruency between the first step and the second step and from there for them to take the offer, okay. So then the strategy is like how do I, how do I do this? How do I create the hooks and the ads? And it obviously is always changing all the time, but one of my favorite things to do is we never know what hook is gonna get somebody to listen right?

So, I’m tryna hook them to have them come listen to a story about why they should buy my offer. And inside the story there might be four or five or six or ten different things inside this story that I’m telling right. And so inside the story there might be a bunch of different hooks, and so I’m thinking what’re the different hooks that’s gonna grab someone and say how quick I did it, how much weight I loss, how much money I made, how much time I took, you’re one of my successes stories of my students.

All these are little hooks, and so I look at Facebook like a big pond and I’m throwing out these different hooks, and I’m tryna figure out which ones are gonna work and which ones won’t work. One of my favorite examples of this was at Anthony DiClementi, he owns a company called Biohacking Secrets. And he had a book that he created, that was a free book to teach people how to bio hack, And at first we set the funnel and it worked awesome, but then we couldn’t come and get people to come over, and we couldn’t figure out what hook would actually get the right people to come like how do we get his dream customers. So we told Anthony, go do a Facebook Live every single day, and each day try a different hook.

So one day he did a Facebook Live that was like hey, Imma show you guys my number one way to biohack my mitochondria or something weird like that, right. And he does a Facebook live about that, puts it out there and guess what, it was a horrible hook and nobody bought on it, like, nobody came and watched it. So the net day he tried a different hook, and he tried a different hook, and he kept doing different hooks all of them leading back to the same free book offer he created.

And he kept trying thing after thing, and after like day 11 or day 12, he made a video that’s called how to biohack your vegetables and he’s basically like, cooking your vegtables in Kerrygold butter, something really simple but for some reason that hook, grabbed his dream customers. And that video ended up getting viewed a million times, drove tons of people into his funnels, and made a bunch of money, okay. So if you look at this from the macro, it’s hook, story, offer in Facebook or the ad platform we’re throwing a whole bunch of different hooks tryna find out which ones people will grab onto. And now if we get em, then we pull them back here, tell them the story and we make them the offer.

– Alright, for everyone who’s tuning in, my name is Russell Brunson and right now I’m going to be covering another really cool question about how to grow your company, how to do funnels, and today’s question is called Funnel Profits. “Russell, what can I do to 10x my Sales Funnels’ profit?” Okay, so I’m going to begin by doodling out a sales funnel now, obviously every sales funnel is different.

Ever since we launched the company Click Funnels, people have been able to create all sorts of sales funnels so you can do simple ones, complex ones, there’s a bunch of variations but most sales funnels aren’t that complicated, right? Unless you are using really confusing software, then some people get really confusing but I like to keep it simple. So, most of mine are going to be like a landing page where my goal is to get somebody’s email address. So it’s going to be an email form and a button.

Then from there I go to a sales page, or maybe there’s a video and then there’s a button where somebody gives me money and then the next page, maybe there’s a page where there’s another video here and then there’s an upsell where they click a button and there’s an upsell. So, like, that’s a basic funnel, right? And so the coolest thing about what we do as funnel builders inside of Click Funnels and if you’ve read the Dotcom Secrets book or any of my books, I go deep into how these things work like step one, step two and that a whole bunch of different funnel types but what people understand is that the reason why this is so magical and the reason why I’m making really simple funnels is because I can test something, right? So let’s say I create the funnel the best I can, I don’t know if it’s going to work or not, then I go over and I talk to Mr. Zuckerberg over at Facebook and I say I’m going to buy some ads.

Right, so I go and I buy some ads and I drive traffic into this. Now what’s cool about this is I can go and I can buy some ads and some people, depending on your budget might be like 10 dollars, or 50 dollars, or 100 or 1,000 or something but I usually put some money in and I sit back and I just wait and I watch it and what’s going to happen is the ads, the market is going to show me exactly what’s working, what’s not working. Okay? So what’ll happen is like, let’s say I spent 1,000 bucks, right.

So say I spent 1,000 bucks let’s say it cost me a dollar per click just to make the numbers easier, right. 1,000 people end up showing up on this landing page. So then I look at, okay, of the 1,000 people ending up on the landing page, how many people gave me their email address? And I’ll look at that number and say, okay, looks like we had 378 people gave me their email address so, the conversion of step one and step two is with 378.

They also, okay, from 378 people gave me their email address how many actually purchased? And I’ll say okay, well, we ended up having, say, 10 people that actually purchased, and say, okay, how many people took the upsell? From the upsell we say, okay, we had one person take the upsell, right? So now I look at these numbers and I say, okay, what is, like, 1,000 people came, and I got 1,000 dollars so that means the ad, it means I’m spending about a dollar per click which is actually really, really good, right?

So I know that the ad over here, so this is Facebook and I’m placing the ad, okay, I know that that worked, that was good so I’m not going to touch the ad, because the ad’s perfect. And I come over here, 1,000 people hit, 378 so that means that 37% opt in, right, which is pretty good, that’s not horrible, it’s not the best but it’s pretty good. Okay, so that means if I draw a little number here, it means 37.8% of the people opted in on this page. So this page is a winner winner chicken dinner.

I’m not going to touch it but I’m going to be very excited about it, right. So now 378 came to this page and 10 bought so what’s the math on that for all our mathematicians at home. Let’s see, it means, what, 3.7%, I believe. Am I right on that? Anyone check my math? (laugh) Bought off this thing here, and 1/10 means 10% bought here. So I’m looking at all these things, so 37%, 3.7%, 10%. So if I’m looking at this funnel and I’m coaching somebody, I’m going to say, okay, what’s broken? The ads are doing awesome, a buck per click, winner, that’s awesome.

Number two, 37% opt-in rate, that’s cool, we’re not going to worry about this. 3% sales rate, that’s, depending on the price point here, that’s not too bad, and then 10% upsell rate, 10%, like that’s, maybe that’s really really low, right? And again, I can shift these numbers, let’s say I shift these numbers and I go from 378 to let’s say we only get 78 people to opt-in, right? And then all of a sudden these numbers start shifting so now it’s like oh, crap, in this funnel we only had 7.8% opt-in rate.

Now I’m looking at that and I’m like there’s your issue, that’s the problem. That’s a horrible opt-in rate. So what do we know? It means I didn’t use enough curiosity on the landing page. It means my landing page was too flashy, it was confusing people, whatever it is. So I’ve got to change that, right, so I come in there and we call these funnel audibles, I come in there, I call them audible, I need to tweak this page a little bit. I make some tweaks, some changes, and hopefully this goes from 7% to 17%.

And we keep tweaking it, and now it’s 27%, now it’s 37%, we make the changes, and then eventually this goes back to green where we’re like sweet, that number’s awesome, I’m really happy at 37% that opted in. And now, you know I put a dollar into ads now, maybe back here two dollars pop back out. Which that’s all marketing is, it’s all funnels are is how do I build a funnel where I put a dollar in advertising in and get two dollars back out. Okay, if you had a slot machine where you put a dollar in and every time it popped out two dollars, how many times would you put a dollar in? You’d put in a dollar every single day as often as fast as you could, right? So same thing, so we’re building the slot machine where you put a dollar in, get two dollars back out.

That’s all we’re playing with this game, it’s super fun. And so, all I’m looking at is okay, I put the dollar in, I get two dollars back out, if not, which one of these numbers is skewed. And then I figure out, okay, opt-in rate is awesome but this is only converting it at a 0.5%? That’s the red one, this is the one, something’s not right here. And my video’s not right, or the offer’s not right, or something’s not right, so I’m going to tweak some stuff, change some things, spend a little bit more money and see what happens.

And then I’m going to make some tweaks, some changes, spend some more money, and keep going with that process until it works and I have a funnel where I can put a dollar in advertising in and get two dollars back out. So that’s how we 10x our Sales Funnels’ profits. If you look at anybody in my inner circle, people I coach directly, my own funnels, this is the game we play. We create our best version we possibly can, we go spend some money on ads, and then we sit back and watch, see what happens, and then we come back and say oh, our guess on this page was wrong. Or this was awesome, that’s awesome, this is doing bad.

Or these three are doing awesome but our ad costs we’re paying like 22 dollars per click maybe our ad’s horrible, let’s change the ad around. And you just make a couple adjustments and tweaks until it works, and as soon as it works you’ve got something you can put a dollar in and get two dollars back out. Then you just dump in as many dollars as you can and every once in a while, not all the time but every once in a while you build a funnel that’s so good where instead of putting a dollar in and getting two out, you put a dollar in and you get three out, or five out, or 10 out, and this is like the big paydays you’re looking for.

Funnels 10x Sales Profit: But we don’t know which ones this is going to be which is why it’s so much fun building funnels inside of Click Funnels. You try one, test it out, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Then you try another one, sometimes it works, it doesn’t. Try another one, make some tweaks, make some changes until boom, something hits and then it’s off to the races. So, that is how you 10x your sales profit it’s just by watching the numbers and doing basic, simple math, making simple adjustments, trying again, and keep doing that until you have something that actually works. In this post, I am going to discuss Growth Hacking. I’ll be looking at this from the point of view of someone who has successfully run a Marketing Funnel for both local businesses and online courses. To begin with I’ll be discussing a software called ClickFunnels™. I will consider “what is ClickFunnels™” to begin with and go through how someone can set up a Conversion Funnel. You may have been asking “What is a sales funnel?” – I will go into that including covering all the Sales Funnel Stages and I will cover some of the best parts about ClickFunnels™ such as Actionetics ClickFunnels™ and the ClickFunnels™ Marketplace also various applications such as the BookFunnel – plus will finish up with something interesting about the Russell Brunson Net Worth – he’s the founder of ClickFunnels™ – he may seem like your friendly guy next door, but don’t be fooled – this guy is one of the top marketers in the world and he’s giving you the chance to learn how to do that.

So what exactly is growth hacking? The term was coined back in 2010 when people started to realise that they didn’t just need marketers. In fact, with the huge shift towards a startup culture, companies either grew quickly or died. Some of the most famous original growth hackers helped massive successes get off the ground. When they were looking for replacements as they left their jobs, they found it hard to get them. Advertising for marketers didn’t cut it – they needed a different description – enter the “growth hacker” – someone completely focused on growth, no matter what tools or innovations they needed. Growth hacking has since taken on a job description of it’s own and these days, one of the most important job titles in the internet industry is that of a growth hacker. Modern techniques for growth hacking have changed considerably and continue to evolve. The reality is that growth hacking has existed for a long time under different guises, think “McDonalds placing a store at every highway crossroads in the 50’s” – that is a while back. Modern internet marketing still uses the same principles but the platform has changed considerably. Look at these 8 steps to implement growth hacking: 1. Make sure your product is what people want. 2. You don’t target everyone – just your core audience. 3. Figure out your method of aquisition (is it viral – get referrals, sticky – create a really awesome customer experience or paid – spend $5 to aquire a customer worth $50). 4. Activate your leads – there’s no point having high conversion rates without happy customers spreading the good news. 5. Retain your customers – repeat customers are more likely to purchase. 6. Pay attention to your revenue – warm up your customers and test different strategies to maximise revenue. 7. Get more referrals – pay close attention to whether your customers would refer you to a friend. 8. Improve your product on a continual basis – never stop innovating and improving – it’ll help your retention.
Along these lines, you can see how growth hacking is a core competency of any new internet product or service trying to make some waves.

Some major innovations have come out of the evolution of this growth hacking phenomenon. One of the major shifts has been this front-of-mind awareness the role of the “marketing funnel” in businesses, not just internet businesses but any business. In the past, the concept of marketing funnels was something marketing agencies were aware of. In the last few years however, funnels are everywhere – kids are using them, adults are using them, businesses are going wild for them. It’s mostly down to one particular software innovation, but i’ll get to that in a bit. Let’s just separate out the “Marketing Funnel” concept. OK – so what is marketing? Marketing amounts to effectively and efficiently bringing your goods and services to market. A market is a place where people buy and sell. A large proportion of the internet is dedicated to buying and selling. The internet is effectively the biggest, quickest and most efficient market in history. If any of you remember those economics classes from school where your professor was talking about the concept of a “perfect market”, this is it. Back when i was in school, this was more of an abstract concept – we were encouraged to imagine a perfect market. Now, the internet comes pretty close. You can compare prices in real time and basically get the best price in an instant. A definition from the Financial Times lexicon: “A market in which buyers and sellers have complete information about a particular product and it is easy to compare prices of products because they are the same as each other etc.” – Yeah we are getting close to that http://lexicon.ft.com/Term?term=perfect-market
The second part of this topic is the “Funnel” – so what is that? Think about the shape of a funnel. It starts wide at the top and narrows at the base. Within marketing, the funnel starts with a wide net at the top – you are marketing to a large amount of people, then reducing that to leads (people who express an interest), then reducing that to hot leads (people who are likely to purchase), then reducing that to customers (people who have at least bought one thing), then reducing that to your best and repeat customers and eventually to your raving fans who buy everything you have for sale and rave about you continuously to everyone they know. So overall the concept of a marketing funnel, is to have a process in place that allows you to maximize the opportunity for profit at every step of this marketing behaviour. Think about casting the widest net possible while spending the least amount of money. Then think about maximizing the chance of getting the attention of your leads. Then think about maximizing the chance of those leads taking action. Then think about identifying which of those leads are most likely to purchase and then maximizing the initial purchase of those leads. Then think about maximizing the chance of those initial customers buying more from you, becoming more happy with your product & service, then maximizing the chance of them becoming raving fans. So this is essentially what a marketing funnel is – it is a marketing infrastructure geared towards maximizing the impact of your marketing activities. Now, traditionally this type of marketing infrastructure has been complicated to implement and understand. Mostly, this was left to so-called “marketing geniuses” who constantly looked at the numbers, had the confidence to split-test and trial different tweaks and turns in the marketing activities. This could have been a very long process taking place over months and years, with expensive implementations and measurement and God knows, there must have been some catastrophic blunders and losses, besides some huge successes. In the last few years however, one particular guy and his team have capitalized on the power and technology of the internet and the virtually “perfect market” that exists there. Not only that, they have set it as their mission to educate and empower anyone as to how to implement a “marketing funnel” in their business. This is Russell Brunson and ClickFunnels™ and I am going to explain a bit more about this next.

What is ClickFunnels™?

ClickFunnels™ contains various elements, but primarily consists of three elements. These are, in no particular order: the software, the education and the community. Let me dive into these a bit. Firstly lets have a look at the education. Behind ClickFunnels™ is probably one of the most charismatic guys you will encounter. Russell Brunson is undoubtedly the leader of the ClickFunnels™ tribe and if you have encountered ClickFunnels™ at any stage you will most certainly have encountered Russell. Russell had passions for a few things, namely wrestling and marketing. When he was younger, he became obsessed with marketing coupons and ads in magazines, phoning up for free giveaways and writing in to the ads to claim all their free offers. Little by little, even as a young guy, he was skilling up on the principles underneath marketing funnels – how these big companies were casting their nets and how they were upselling their products and services. In some ways, it reminds me of the story of Warren Buffett walking around his neighbourhood as a young child collecting pepsi and coke cans to bring them home and count up to see who was more popular. Either way, when you encounter Russell, it’s sometimes hard to take onboard all the stuff he is teaching. The reason is that a lot of the time, he is also selling stuff. After all, his business is largely about selling, so it makes sense that he will be selling you stuff while he is educating you. In fact, a large part of his teaching revolves around selling by teaching. All that being said, if you can wade through Russell’s “attractive character” (his concept not mine), you will find an almost unending series of educational videos explaining any aspect of selling through marketing funnels. At some stage, I want to organise all the training videos I have by Russell, but it’s fairly safe to say that there are videos explaining how you approach every step in your marketing funnel, from casting your net, running your ads, converting your traffic into leads, converting your leads into customers, converting your customers into raving fans, retaining your raving fans and more. Most of this training revolves around using his software (ClickFunnels™) to achieve these goals, but nonetheless, there is a huge amount of education presented within ClickFunnels™ and surrounding it. As i said already, it’s difficult sometimes to know whether RB is educating you or selling you and I find that a bit of a drawback. If you can do a bit of homework and organise this training without getting too hyped up about joining the 2 comma club (people who’ve made a million or more in their funnel), there is a lot to be learned about the different parts of the “marketing funnel”.
The second part of ClickFunnels™ is the software. Overall it’s really user-friendly and really nice to use. The interface for managing your funnels is slick and easy to navigate. There is some getting used to the drag and drop page builder, but overall it’s excellent, arguably better than any other page builder out there. You can toggle between mobile and desktop view, you can add in buttons, videos, sections, even choose from a range of “conversion colours” for different elements. The email setup with the basic package, is fairly basic but if you are on the full package and get access to Actionetics, that’s a whole different ballgame – I’ll get into that a bit later. There are also a range of pre-made funnels that you can implement in a few clicks for various objectives. I’m not going into too much detail here – you can find explainers of all that stuff elsewhere or just sign up and test on a 2 week trial. I want to stay with the main point – it almost gets lost in all the hype – what is ClickFunnels™ for and does it work? So essentially, the software gives you all the things necessary to make slick websites easily and an autoresponder you can use to fire out emails for people who opt in to your campaigns. It also hooks up with loads of other software so you can text people, send instant messages. It also allows you to split test pages and measure your conversion rates at different stages of the funnel, which after all is what a marketing funnel is supposed to be about. I think a lot of people forget that. Sure you can use ClickFunnels™ as a website builder and marketing program, but at the end of the day a marketing funnel is supposed to be about “Maximising impact” at each stage of the funnel. How can you do that? Well that is supposed to be what ClickFunnels™ does – it is supposed to help you measure your conversion rate at the different steps of the funnel so that you can maximise your profits. It does a pretty good job, in that you can easily see the percentages of people that convert to the next step of the funnel. Then you can split test changes to those steps in your funnel and try to improve conversion rates. “Conversion funnel” is a phrase used to describe the journey a customer goes on from advertisement or search result all the way through to purchasing in an ecommerce site. What is a sales funnel?

If you’ve ever put oil in a car then you know what a funnel is. A funnel has a wide opening at the top and as oil runs down it (sticking with our car analogy) the opening becomes smaller and smaller until the oil reaches the engine, which is the ultimate goal. A funnel is a way to guide something which is usually unwieldy and uncooperative, like liquid.

If you are building a product then your task is to guide people towards a particular goal (signup, checkout, etc.). The problem is that people are unpredictable and full of free-will. If you are going to get people to do what you wish, en masse, then you must employ a funnel.

Sales Funnel Stages

The first step in the funnel is visitors: Getting anyone to visit your website. They are visitors at this stage because they don’t belong to you yet. They haven’t opted in. They aren’t members because that would mean they have a relationship with you. Now they are strangers that are on your site, or visitors. There are three ways to get people visiting your website. Pull them in, Push them in, or bring them in with a product.
After a visitor land, beginners think they’ve done their job as a growth hacker. Not the case. Next they need to be activated. Activation happens when they’ve taken action that creates a relationship with you: Join an email list / Create an account / Make a purchase. Or a few of these combined. They have then converted from visitor to member or become “activated” by joining you.
It’s difficult to activate a visitor but even more difficult to convert a member to a user, where a user is someone who uses your product / service on a regular basis. This is called retaining users and they are the ultimate goal of a growth hacker.
