– Hey, this is Russell Brunson again. Welcome to part five of five of my exciting interview with Tai Lopez. If you’ve missed any of the past episodes, go back in the playlist and make sure you watch all of them, because this interview was really, really fun. it was exciting. It took place from 1:00 a.m. to like three or four in the morning. Some of the stuff we said, something I wouldn’t normally tell people in a normal audience. But because I was tired, I was with Tai,

I was showing off. We dropped some really good value and some cool things I think you would love. So, with that said, were about to start the fifth episode. During this last of this series, we talked about a lot of really powerful things like proximity is power, how to build a team, how to surround yourself with amazing people that’ll help you get to where you want to get to.

A lot of really cool things in here. So with that said, let’s check out this video and afterwards I’ll jump back on and kind of have some final words for you. I appreciate you watching this series and we’ll talk to you after the interview. – What is the one and only thing you must have in your business model to succeed? The foremost, most important technique in building the overall business model. Is it marketing? Is it having, you got a good business partner. That I think is super, in my opinion, business partner is huge. – Man, there’s too many important things. – Good book on that called Working Together by Micheal Eisner.

You’d be surprised how many, what percentage, large percentage of billionaires had business partners. Whether it’s, number one guy for 18 years straight was, not right now, but Bill Gates. He had Paul Allen and then he had Steve Ballmer. You have Warren Buffet, who’s been number two on and off. He had his Charlie Munger, and you just go through the list. And there’s been people who did it without a partner, but the majority of people have partners. So that’s my answer, what’s your answer? –

I think I want to double on down on that. I think it’s huge. You know, I had a lot of businesses prior to ClickFunnels that marginally did well. It wasn’t until we did ClickFunnels. And it was fun, because when we built it, Todd, who’s my co-founder, who built the software, he was working with me kind of as an employee, not really, but kind of as an employee, and we had that in for ClickFunnels, and he’s like okay I want to do this, but I want to be your partner. At first I had this fear of like, oh, but like, this is my business and my all these kind of things. – Right. And luckily I was so grateful, that I was like, you know what, I’m gonna do it.

And I opened it up and what’s so cool is that like, he then went and took that and it became his business. So it wasn’t like nine to five, it became his life. – Yes. – And then after we launch ClickFunnels, we started adding people. Instead of doing what typical people do, and they hire a bunch of employees. I think it was ’cause Avengers had just come out and I love that movie. I was like we need to build an Avenger team. We can, and I read an article, I wish I’d have kept it, because it was so cool, but it said that an A player is worth 32 hundred times more than a B player. – Oh, yeah! – That’s 32 hundred times. – [Tai] Think about a good programmer. –

Yeah so I was like, let’s just get a handful of A players and let’s put them, and that’s going to be what we do. Like your partner he asked me, he’s like, so how many developers were at ClickFunnels? And I was like, I was kind of nervous because he just told me his last company had a hundred and something developers. And I was like, we’ve got 12. – What? – There’s only 12 developers in ClickFunnels. I’m like, yeah. He’s like, how is that possible? I’m like, we only have A players. We literally, that was the whole model. Get the best in the world. And they can do, one good person can do the work of 10, 15, 20 other people.

So, that’s how we’ve done things. – With programmers, they say that one good programmer is a good 30 to 60. We have a drink game campaign coming on Indiegogo. How about people who want to use Kickstarter, Indiegogo to raise money? You worked anything, and done ClickFunnels help them at all on that, because that’s its own kind of funnel. – Yes, I haven’t personally done it, but I’ve seen some people do it where they use ClickFunnels not to sell the product, but for lead gen ahead of time. – Okay. – To try to build up tons of pressure and excitement about their things. So, they thought then to take their Indiegogo video or their Kickstarter video and put it on a ClickFunnels page and just get options, and like pre-sell it. –

Yes. – Build a huge list, build a big following, and then when their thing goes live then they have this huge following they can just push right there and get a lot more traction a lot faster. – So you can use it to generate free clients, free emails, just versus paid stuff. – Yeah. – Be honest, you can use Shopify. It has some similar things. ClickFunnels, each of them have their pros and cons. Some of you are selling on Amazon making a lot of money. And honestly, let’s talk about that for a second. So, to be unbiased here, do you think there’s a time when it makes sense to maybe be up on ClickFunnels and up on Amazon? – Our biggest growth right now on ClickFunnels is Amazon sellers. – Okay, so, tell us how those work. How is that going? – So, a couple reasons why. One is like some people get spooked, because they lose an account, or they know someone who lost an account, and they’re like, if Amazon shuts me down, my business is gone, right? –

Yes. – And so, some people will come, ’cause like I need to control my destiny and have two. And so that’s a big reason why a lot of people do, just to be able to have two places they can sell it. Another big thing people do is, a lot of time they’re using Amazon to generate customers. For example, we had a buddy who sells the cell phone cords, does like a hundred grand a day in cell phone cords things. – What? – He gets them in China for like a penny, and sells them for like 20, 30 bucks. It’s crazy. So the thing comes in the mail. – A penny? – The box comes in the mail. – [Tai] You open it up. There’s your cord, and there’s a big card in the thing that says, hey, if you want a second cord for free, go to whatever.com. It goes to that page, it’s a ClickFunnels page.

They put in their shipping address. Boom, now they’ve got their customer’s contact info from Amazon over here. And now they’re able to sell them all the other stuff they sell. They sell power banks. They sell all the other, that type of product. – Cause it’s only a penny. – Yeah. – And what do they get in? They tell them you get another cord if you sign up to the email list or something? – Yeah, you basically go to this page, fill out your address, they’ll ship you a second cord for free. – Let’s talk about email for a second. Huge thing.

What is ClickFunnels, and what do you see in the future of email marketing? I think in my business I probably make, you know, anywhere from 200,000 to a million dollars a month, just having a good email list in just one of my businesses. Do you see the same trend? Email is still important, it’s not completely replaced? – I love email. I don’t think it will ever be completely replaced. What I’m finding fascinating is, we’re doing a blend now of email and also like FaceBook bot messengers. – Yes. – But using them both together has been really powerful. It’s like you have a message here, and then the FaceBook thing that complements it. –

Walk us through that for people who don’t know. What are you saying? So, we all know, we’ve been to websites, you put your email in and you get on some newsletter list. What are you doing with bot? When we hear the word bot, Are we talking about auto bots? Are we talking about transformers? We’re talking about auto-inserting a message into their FaceBook Messenger? – [Russell] Yeah, so at ClickFunnels we’re finishing out our platform that’ll do bots. And basically, someone will fill in their email address and there’ll be a little button that’ll say, do you also want us to send you this info through Messenger, right? –

They opt into both at once? – Yes. – So, people check a box, and do most people check both? – It’s a really high percent, yeah. So, it’s interesting if you look at, so we have, I think it’s over a million person email list, and I think we have forty thousand people on our Messenger list. – Okay. – And if we broadcast both of them, we get almost the same amount of clicks from each. – [Tai] Really? From just forty thousand? – [Russell] Yes. – [Tai] So if you had a million on the other one, it would be destroying email. – So, we’re putting a lot of effort and energy into the migration of getting people from here to here, and getting them in both places.

Because I also think that it’s also scary, cause it’s all on FaceBook, all on Messenger. If Zuckerberg wakes up one day and decides he hates marketers, it’s gone. So, I’m not saying get rid of email, but I’m saying use them both together, And there’s power in that. – [Tai] The more platforms you’re on, the safer it is. What can an affiliate either to be an affiliate to ClickFunnels, or to any product, how are they–

– Let’s do it for him. How many of you guys wanna be an affiliate and make Tai Lopez more money and make you guys money in the interim? Do you guys have an affiliate program for like– – (squealing) That was from my Pee Wee Herman adventure. – Does Mentor Box have an affiliate program? – Mentor Box does, and so does tailopez.com – [Russell] Okay, so this is what I’d do. This goes back to what I talked about earlier. So, I would go to YouTube, and I would find all the coolest Tai Lopez videos you can find. There’s a bunch of them, right? Find the ones that meant the most to you, and probably theme them out.

So here’s all Tai’s thoughts on cryptocurrency, Or all Tai’s thoughts on whatever. Find the videos, and then make a page that says I’m gonna give you the top ten Tai Lopez videos about cryptocurrencies. Put your email address in here, and I will email you the top ten videos I found. They’re amazing. You’re gonna learn about this, this, all this stuff, right? And that’s step one. So, number two then– – So, you get their email address. – I go to FaceBook yet, and I target Tai’s audiences and my audience, and entrepreneur audience, and Mark Cuban’s audiences, and Tony Robbins’ audience, and I say, come to this page, and I’m gonna give you Tai Lopez’s 10 best videos on this topic, and you spend a little bit of money. People come, they opt in, and then you start building email lists, and as some come in you email them. Here’s the links to the 10 videos.

And then, by the way, did you know that Tai, every single month, curates, him and his partner curate the best books they find, and this really cool thing called Mentor Box. If you click on this link, you can get an account to Mentor Box, and not only are you gonna get all these videos, now you’re gonna get all their books, their best books, every single month, blah, blah, blah. And now they’re affiliates for you, and they’ve got a really unique offer that can go out there. The reason why affiliates lose, is because they’ll go, and they’re like, sign up for your affiliate program.

They’ll get their affiliate link from Mentor Box, and the same link that everybody else on earth is sending, same thing that you’re promoting, same thing everyone’s promoting, and they can’t be profitable, ’cause they’re nothing unique about what they’re doing. – [Tai] Yeah, you gotta make some content. – [Russell] So you take, and what’s nice about it I tell my people, I’m like, go to my channels. I have so much stuff I put out every single day. Find the stuff you like the most. Package it. Give away at an opt in, and then you build a list. And then sell my stuff. And we all win. – So, let’s talk about this for a second. Content.

A lot of people are scared of creating a video. They don’t wanna put their face on there. What do you say to somebody who has a false belief that they can’t create something, some cool videos, cause they’re introverted or they’re nervous, or what do you say? – Probably two things, and then we can go both directions. One is like, even if you’re introverted you can do like, I’m actually super introverted. If you ask my friends at home, every time they see a Facebook Live, they’re like you talk a lot on the camera, you don’t talk in real life. I’m super introverted. You can still do it. That’s number one, don’t be afraid.

Second thing, maybe you really are in a super huge fear. I look at my company. I got some amazing people who work with me, and partners and founders and stuff, and they’re not on video all the time. But I am, so it’s like if you can’t be that person, Find the partner who’s like they wanna do that thing. They wanna be the person in there. And make that the partnership, and that can work as well. – Partner. – Todd Dickerson that coded ClickFunnels, he wouldn’t have ever wanted to be on camera talking about ClickFunnels all day. And that’s like, I can’t code, but I can do that, so we found each other, and made it work.

Most cases introverts and extroverts are the best match. So, if you’re looking for a business partnership, maybe you can partner up. If you look at Warren Buffett is extroverted. He likes to crack jokes. If you go to the Berkshire Hathaway meeting, he’s funny. And then Charlie Munger, he’ll turn to Charlie Munger, who’s an introvert and be like, Charlie, what’s your opinion? And he’ll go, I have nothing to add. Your business partner is an introvert. My business partner, Alex, is visiting, and guess where he has been all day. Locked in a guest room in my house. He’s like, I’m working on something. No one bother me with humans.

But it’s a good partnership. Let’s talk about copy writing, somebody’s asking. How can people make their website the words matter, like it needs to say something awesome. – [Russell] We created a software that helps that, because the copy writing is the hardest part. All you need is to build a page, and it make look really pretty, look nice, but people come and like the words aren’t right. – Yes. – No one’s gonna buy. That’s what it all comes down to. Like the funnel doesn’t matter without the right words, the copy that converts people to buying.

I have a partner named Jim Edwards. He went through all marketing advertisements for the last hundred plus years, and he found all the best converting headlines from all the way back from the beginning of copy writing, like Gene Schwartz, and Gary Halbert, all these people, and combined all these things, put it into software, basically you could type in your product name, and it’s like, I sell this, this is what would benefit, this is what the features you talk about, you fill in some blanks, you click a button, and it pops out like 800 headlines. – Really? – Based on the best headline templates in the world.

And you just copy– – Where do you get this? – It’s called Funnel Scripts. – [Tai] Funnelscripts.com – I have a bunch of friends who are high paid copy writers, who charge anywhere from 15 to $25,000 a letter. And they used to go and they’d give their client a huge client questionnaire, and they fill the whole thing, and they go and spend the next six weeks writing copy. Now, they use a take client questionnaire. They fill it in Funnel Scripts. They click the button, and it pops out the copy, and then they tweak it a little bit, and they send it to the client, and charge the same fees. It’s legitimately crazy – If you don’t know how to write, here’s the thing.

It’s a catch 22. If you don’t know how to write, most people don’t know how to write. You’re not going to make a lot of money. One of the best things they should have taught us in school is copy writing, how to be persuasive. So, what’s some copy writing simple thing? There’s my simple thing. A lot of you guys need to fix your website. If you’re physical location, put the hours. Put the buy button high. I remember one time I couldn’t buy something. It was a website. I wanted to buy something. I searched. I actually sent it to my assistant.

Can you find how to buy? I honestly think they– – I wanna give you money. – No, I think they forgot to put the buy button up. It was like long, and they had written in. And they forgot the buy. So, my technique is keep it simple, stupid. Find out what people want on your website. Hit them with power words. The most powerful word in the English language, they say, according to Frank Lutz, he’s a famous political consultant, he says the word imagine is a power word. Imagine if you lost 50 pounds in the next 50 days. Imagine, you know, people like to, especially in America. So, that’s my quick hack.

What’s a hack for you to be, simple things, besides using this website? – My favorite headline in the world, works for almost everything is how to blank without blank. So, it’s how to, and then you insert the thing they desire the most, without the thing that causes them the most pain. So, for example, I could be like, how to read all these books, without actually ever reading a book. And then I’d give you money, because I wanted to watch the videos and get the whole download, right? – Yep. – ‘Cause like, every market I always start with that.

Okay, what do people actually want? So, how to, and then insert what they desire the most, without the thing that they’re most scared of. – Alright, I have a course where I’ve taught over 20,000 people how to build a social media marketing agency. – [Tai] So, they’re offering social media to end clients. – To businesses, they go around to businesses. They charge one to $10,000 a month. How do they get customers using your techniques. – So, if I was going to a business owner, and I was like what do they desire most?

They want customers coming in their place. So how to get– – Let’s say doctors and dentists. – Okay. – Or restaurants. – Okay. Let’s use dentists then. So, how to get cash paying clients to come into your clinic. They call them clinics? – Dentist office, dentist office. – Without having to, or how to get yeah, how to get cash, whatever, whatever their thing is, right? – Paying. – Paying dental clients. I don’t think most dentists want to sit there on social media, so without spending time on Twitter, Instagram, or Snapchat. –

Okay. – Cause they wanna fix people’s teeth. They don’t wanna be doing these things, right? – Yes. – If you have a social media marketing agency, you make a ClickFunnel landing page. The landing page at the top says, how to get, so if it’s a dentist, how to get 17 new dental clients this year from social media. And then you put without having to ever login to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. – [Russell] That’s a great headline actually. – You like that? – Right there. – You should use that, if you don’t use it, then you hate money.

That’s the only reason. – You hate money. I gotta use that line on people. So they build it on ClickFunnels. They get the headlines up. How would you get dentists to start going to see this page? – I would go to Facebook and target dentists. Pretty easy. That’d be the first spot. The next thing, I know a little about the dental market. If I was going after dentists, I would go to dentaltown.com Dentaltown.com has an email list of like 80,000 dentists you can rent for like five grand. – Really. – I’d buy an ad. I’d pound it out, and I’d have a bunch of clients overnight. – So, you can basically rent email lists. They call it email drops.

You can do an email drop to 80,000 dentists. And you have– – Most industries have those kind of things. I just happen to know dentaltown.com does it for dentists. But most of them have those type of things where people have aggregated the industry, and you can rent ads to go out in the email box. – Thanks so much for being here. – Hey my name is Russell Brunson. I want to welcome you to my channel. I’m so excited to have you here. If you can a moment really quick and click on the subscribe button, that way I can send you really cool videos like this in the future. But today I’m gonna be talking about a five-part video series I’m doing right now. It was actually an interview I did with this man right here. Grrr, his head got really big. Tai Lopez and I was actually in California.

This was a couple of months ago. I was out in California and I actually messaged Tai and he said hey come on over to the Tai mansion, hanging out and we’ll do an interview. So I got there super late it was like 11:30 at night and I was like there’s no way we’re doing this interview.

And sure enough we showed up. He fed me and then about one o’clock in the morning. If you’ve every been to Tai’s house or seen it he broke out like 400 cameras. He had cell phones galore for Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, networks I’ve never even heard of and we did this interview and it turned out really, really cool and I wanted to share it with you.

So the very first part of this interview Tai’s asking about how we built ClickFunnels™ from zero to 100 million dollars and the first thing we talked about is how you actually build a movement. I talked about the movements that ClickFunnels™ has built. We talked about some of our success stories. Like LadyBoss and the movement they’ve created and a whole bunch of other stuff.

With that said let’s jump into part one of this interview series with me and Tai Lopez. (stormy thunder) – Russell, take me back three years ago you decide to launch this company, called ClickFunnels™. Are you now number one competitor with Shopify? – I think so, I don’t know anyone else that’s come close, so I’m pretty sure. – And you did this, you have five kids, you live in Idaho, for all of you to live in smaller markets. – It still works. – So what was the feeling to go from zero and three years later doing one hundred million bucks here. – That was never the goal. I mean the goal is like try to do whatever.

But it’s funny because about four years ago when we had the idea and we were like can we do this. Like a lot of people have tried it before. I even tried it before. Luckily I had a co-founder in Todd Dickerson who was technically able to build it. And he spent about a year building it and then it came back and it was just amazing. And so I’m like all right let’s sell this.

That’s my job to be the guy selling it and talking about it and trying to build the excitement behind it. It’s crazy cause it took off. At first it was kind of slow it took a while to figure out how to sell and how to get people excited about it. And then when it started working and then triggering success stories, people having success with it and more it started growing and growing and the last three years has been nuts. –

So, let’s go through this. Marketing, cause a lot of people are listening in are people who have an idea and they want to grow it. One of your secrets is not just selling a product but creating a movement. – [Russell] Yeah. – Tell me about that. Cause that’s really your number one. I asked you the number one thing you think is responsible for growth and those of you listening should emulate. You’ve written this book called Expert Secrets. You’ve got Robert Kiyosaki on the front cover recommending it and the Underground Playbook Defines your Message, Build A Tribe, and Change the World.

So why do people need to build a tribe? How do you do it? – [Russell] The market we’re going into there’s a lot of competitors, right? And all of them are like, there brands but there kind of nameless faces. There’s brands trying to do this thing right. And I remember about that time I went to a network marketing thing cause I had some friends and I wanted to see how these guys do their stuff. I show up in this room and there’s like four or five thousand people in this room and everyone’s going on stage and they’re crying and I was so confused. I’m like this is a software company, why are people crying. – (laughs) –

And person after person for two or three days and I’m so confused and finally I look over to one of my buddies and he said to me he said you know what they’re doing here? I was like I’ve got no idea but everyone’s crying, I’m confused. And he said they didn’t build a software company they created a movement. That’s why people are here. That’s why they’re coming. – So he’s saying they built a movement before they even branded this concept. –

Yeah as they were doing it. We were launching ClickFunnels™ and I was like if we’re just a software company like everybody else then we’re a commodity, right? If you’re a commodity then it’s like everyone is fighting for the lowest price and eventually you price yourself out and that’s how a lot of businesses happen. I was like we need to build something bigger where people are a part of this movement and they’re part of our tribe and they belong to this thing. And so about that time we were launching ClickFunnels™ and again at first it didn’t take off like I thought it was. I remember about two or three months into it I did a presentation about a concept we call Funnel Hacking which is like could we find somebody else as a funnel, you look at it and then you model it inside of ClickFunnels™. Our people started calling themselves funnelhackers.

I was like okay hey we’re funnelhackers. We started making T-shirts and everyone who signed up for our software make them watch a 10-minute video showing them how to use ClickFunnels™ and we mail them a T-shirt that says funnelhacker. Almost every week since we’ve launched ClickFunnels™ there’s been some the next ClickFunnels™ killer is coming out. I got emails from everyone forwarded and they’re like the competitor’s coming out. And so far I think there’s about thirty something that have come out and all of them have kind of fallen by the wayside and didn’t do much. –

You think that’s cause they weren’t movements like yours? – Yeah, well I asked some of my members how come you guys don’t try their software? Why aren’t you switching over? And they said because we’re part of this is like, this is not your company Russell. This is us, we’re funnelhackers, ClickFunnels™ are our tool, this is who we are. One guy, I remember he told me, he’s like I look at the ad long enough on my Facebook feed just long enough to laugh and then I scroll on.

Because I know that I’m a funnelhacker and I’m part of this movement. And so it’s like everyone is gonna try to beat us on pricing and things like that and it’s like no we built a community. We built a tribe of people who have a belief they’re going somewhere, there’s a vision what they’re all trying to do and that has been so huge in propelling us. they also share it We get organically about a thousand people a day that are signing up for ClickFunnels™. – And these are paid customers by the way. 55,000 paid customers. – Not free ones like most software. – Your free email list, how big is it? –

Over a million. – Over a million. – We’ve probably had about five hundred thousand or so that have actually created an account but yeah, 55,000 that are actively paying. – Paying you and it cost between what? – Between $100 and $300 a month. – 100 and 300 and then you’ve got some upgrades people can do. So, it is interesting we’re talking about this cause I was just reading this, I like to read textbooks even though I didn’t go to college. This is how I do my version of college.

So I was reading this book on, it’s just a psychology, Dr. David Russ, it’s a psychology book. He’s actually coming here tomorrow. He’s one of the most interesting guys in the world. And he’s talking about the rise of gang membership around the world. And he said it completely tracked the breakdown of the old family unit tribe. Gangs started to get big let’s say, I mean there’s always been some form of gang, but people want to belong to something. So now if you can build a business, you see that with Lady Gaga. She called her fans wasn’t it like Little Monsters or something like that?

And Justin Bieber what do they call, beliebers. – (chuckle) So one our top success stories we’re talking about in the book a lot. She’s in the weight loss space and her maiden name was Tool. She was always like Tool Time trainer. It was tough because people didn’t self identify with that. – Right. – And so she heard this for the first time, she was at an event we did and on the flight home she was like I need to change this to something that my people will associate with. It was tough for her because her business at that point had been her name. And she’s like that’s not big enough for everybody else. And so on the flight home she was thinking about ideas and all of a sudden she had this idea.

She’s like I’m gonna rebrand it as LadyBoss Weight Loss. And my winners are gonna be LadyBosses. And they went home and deleted their whole business which was doing well, rebranded it, launched this thing called LadyBosses and if you look at here movement right now they have over a hundred thousand women who have purchased their program so they’re in this thing. They do these swag drops. – Swag drops. – She’s like I’ve got my LadyBoss swag and she’ll come in and she’ll reveal it and they’ll have, so for a short period of time, and I’m not allowed to share their numbers, but they will sell so much clothing in a finite period of time to all the LadyBosses. Cause they have these shirts that say I’m a LadyBoss and they have all these quotes that people self identify with. – Yeah. –

And when they took it from a brand like from their name to this thing that’s bigger like people can identify with. – I just want to reiterate, I’ve seen this over and over. Even what I do. Knowledge Society is one of the names of one of my companies. And it’s not even something I tried to brand. And I see my employees latching on to that because you can’t latch on to being Tai Lopez, that’s just one person. But being attached to Knowledge Society is like this higher purpose and if you look at Maslow’s hierarchy of needs there’s five levels of needs. Physiological is at the base foundation.

And you have number two you have safety. And then number three you have love and number four you have status and respect. But number five is self actualization or actualization to a higher purpose. And that’s where people find god and they find, like Mahatma Gandhi and his movement to gain independence for his country. Martin Luther King Junior, Abraham Lincoln. And so what you’re doing is you’re applying those same principles to a brand. And it took you from zero to a hundred million dollars a year. –

The thing about the big brands, the ones that have done a really good job in the last generation have done that. Look at Apple. – [Tai] Biggest company in the world, Apple. – [Russell] Apple self-identify with that. Like there’s Apple users and there’s everybody else. There’s that thing, you look at shoes, you look at clothing lines, the best brands have done that. For some reason most businesses, we don’t think think about that, it’s like well I sell this or I’m a financial planner or I’m in real estate. Those who start looking at a pattern. I’m a big pattern guy. You see a pattern it’s like okay, now that I know the pattern, how can I amplify that. So when we realize this is the pattern. In the book we’ll say how to create those movements.

But you understand the pattern it’s like okay how can I do this for my business and when I became aware of it then it’s like okay now that I know what it is I can amplify it. I know that these are the pieces of how to make this movement happen and like what are all the elements of a good movement and how to be the leader of that movement. And one of the things, when you understand it you can amplify it. – Yeah. – And most of them never know, they’re like I sell this thing. This is my business. – Tell us a little more. What did you build, was it just this hacker funnel kind of idea or funnel hacks or what did you identify with? –

You know I think the majority of our members they’re small entrepreneurs, they’re people who are still involved in their business. They’ve been marketing their business and they’re passionate about that. I was our customers like five or six years ago. I had ideas, things I wanted to get out but I didn’t know how to do that. I’m not a website designer or developer or anything. So I had to hire people and it was so slow and just frustrating.

So for me it was like when we made ClickFunnel I was able to as someone who is passionate about my product or my service I could just go and put it out there really, really fast. – Russell, you were mentioning yesterday in your talk that oftentimes you’re mistaken for like, oh I look 11 years old. Oh, poor Russell, looks like he’s 11, awww. (audience laughing) You know Russell, have you considered my friend, maybe the fact that you made a product on how to build potato guns might have made people think you were 11? I dunno, I’m just, just a theory.

Just a theory. – My name is Russell Brunson and I’m part of an underground group of entrepreneurs that you’ve probably never even heard of before. We don’t rely on cash from venture capitalists to get started and we don’t even have goals to go public either.

In fact, our motivation is the exact opposite. You see, we have products and services and things that we know change people’s lives. Because we’re fighting against the big brands, people with literally unlimited budgets, we have to do things differently.

We have to do things smarter. We don’t have financial safety nets, because every test we take is with our own money. We have to be profitable from day number one. So how do we do that? How’s that even possible? If you ask the MBAs or look in your college text books they will tell you that what we are doing is impossible, yet it’s happening every single day. And it’s happening through an art and a science that we call Funnel Hacking. It’s not really something that I can explain to you, it’s something I have to show you.

These stories are a glimpse of entrepreneurs just like you, who have a dream and vision and wanna change the world in their own little way. (energetic music) Every year people ask me, how do I pick the speaker for Funnel Hacking Live?

When I first met Sean Stephenson for the first time, I knew within half a second, it’s like I want Sean on our stage. Now, I had no idea that he was going to spend the first like 15 minutes of the presentation roasting me and making fun of me, but it was really really cool for a couple reasons. One, it was cool to see how it tied the audience and bonded it them to him. Which was really cool.

And second off, it was just always funny to hear what people really think about you. – You’re so clean and good. How many people, deep down inside have a little bit of the feeling that I have, you would just love to see Russell like in sweatpants with like Cheetos whipped on ’em and like, and you know, he’s like angry, and his hair’s all messed up, and he’s like cussing like a sailor.

How many people? Am I the only one that fantasizes about this? (audience laughing) (audience applauding) – Every Funnel Hacking Live we’re trying to build a storyline of like, of what are… the community as a whole, what are they struggling with? Where are they stuck?

What are they trying to figure out? And so many people in our community are trying to get their message, trying to get their voice, trying to get things out. And they get frustrated and struggle by the fact that they’re trying to help all these people. And a lot of times, no matter how many people you try to help, a lot of times you just can’t help them.

A lot of times it’s family members or friends or people that you’re trying to figure out, how can I change that person’s life? But they won’t come and listen to your product or your service or the thing that you’re trying to sell. And one of my favorite parts of Sean’s presentation is when he talked about that.

Talked about how do you know who to save? How do you know who to help first? And so I actually wanna show you guys that clip from Funnel Hackering Live, ’cause it’s one of my favorite from clips from all the speakers ever inside of Funnel Hacking Live was this part of the presentation that Sean gave. –

How many people have ever made a video on YouTube or Facebook and it only had like 10 to 30 or 100 views, and you kinda were pissed? Oh! I wish I had more visibility. Well these 15 souls needed what you just sent. When the Coast Guard goes out on a stormy night to rescue a boat that has capsized. They bring their helicopter and they hover over top of the boat and they realize, there’s more people in the water than there’s space in the helicopter. Who do they save?

You know what their motto is? We can only save the people who swim toward us. I can only help those that swim toward me. You will go nuts if you try to help people that do not want your help, but claim that they do. The moment you try to help somebody and they push you back and push you back, you have to say look, you know what? I love you, I’m gonna be over there. Hopefully you’ll swim toward me at some point. If you don’t, this helicopter’s leaving.

The quickest way for you to drown is to try to help somebody that’s flailing around in the water. Or that’s swimming away from you, when there’s all these people that are actually wanting to swim toward you. You know those 15 likes on that YouTube video of yours? They’re the ones swimming toward you. (water sloshing) – As you can tell from that clip, Sean’s entire presentation was amazing. But that was definitely the part that was most impactful for me. Understanding that we can’t help and save everybody, but we can start working towards helping those people who are swimming towards us.

And a lot of times inside of our community, people ask me, how do I get my message out? How do I find the people and get them to come to me? And I think at first it takes you learning your voice and finding it, practicing. Doing Facebook Lives, doing podcasts, doing things to kind of figure out what your message is. And as you start doing those things, people will start resonating with you which is magical.

But then the second piece is like, how do you capture that story in a way that’s really gonna be impactful for people? Because Sean gave us such an amazing gift at Funnel Hacking Live, we wanted to give him a gift as well, so we decided to jump in a plane, both Brandon Fisher and I, and fly to Arizona to help capture Sean’s story in a way that he could use to bring more people to him. – [Sean] (voice drowned out by music) bacon, try that. – (chuckles) Oh yeah.

What we got Sean? – [Sean] All right, let’s get going. – [Russell] All right Sean, what does Snoop Dogg wash his clothes with? – Bleaaach. (upbeat music) – Now when we first came to Arizona, we were planning on making one core video, but after spending time with Sean and the white board mapping a bunch of things out, we decided that it wasn’t just one video we needed.

Funnels Video Marketing: How video marketing help my business

We actually needed probably about three or four different indoctrination videos to take somebody on a journey, help them understand who Sean was and build a connection with him, build rapport and make them want to be working closer with him. And so that’s what we kinda decided. And so we went and actually went and filmed these videos capturing Sean’s story and I wanna show you just one of ’em right now. – People are always curious about like, have I always been this positive?

Have I always had a good outlook on life and I said, you know, it really all stems back to one moment. I was having challenges growing up with broken bones with my condition and people would stare at me. And I’ve dealt with a lot of challenges living in this container. And my favorite day of the year was Halloween. I loved Halloween. And most kids like Halloween ’cause the costumes and the party and the candy. But I loved it because it was the one day out of the year that everybody got dressed up, and I could finally blend in. And it was like a magical day where I didn’t have a disability in people’s eyes.

And my mom was in the kitchen and she was packing up our lunches and she was getting everything out to the minivan and I was laying on the floor and I was rolling around. And I catch my left leg on the corner of the door and I bent it back and I snapped it at the femur. And in that moment, there’s a bit of a time delay between hearing the sound of a snap and feeling the pain.

But it’s like an eternity because you know what’s coming. And I was just so angry, because I knew I was gonna miss the party and I knew I was gonna miss that one day where I got to feel normal. And my mom comes running in the room and she kneels down beside me.

See, she could just calm me down, there’s nothing really she could do for me medically, because my bones couldn’t be set like somebody else’s, taken to the hospital. And so my mom just had to keep me immobilized for four to six weeks whenever I would break a bone.And she would play this game with me, as any parent who would wanna take their children away from pain, she said, what was your favorite part about our last vacation? But that day, I was so angry. And she could see that anger in my eyes. So she leaned back and she formulated another question. And then she

asked me, Sean, is this going to be a gift or a burden in your life? And I’m thinking is she crazy? A gift. And something magical happened though, before I could respond. It’s like I got clarity on my life. And I realized that she was basically saying, are you going to use this as an excuse the rest of your life as why you’re not happy and why you’re not gonna take a positive outlook? Or are you gonna use this as an example for yourself and others to love your life amidst your pain, ’cause we all fracture.

Funnels Video Marketing: Surround yourself with positive people

We all have fractures in our marriage or fractures in our business or fractures in raising our children. And when you find that there’s a purpose to your pain, it doesn’t make the pain go away. It just gives you the fuel to keep going through it and know that it’s not gonna be there forever. And it really just shifted my whole attitude about life. I realized that you have control over what you make things mean and how you interpret things. And was in that moment I really honestly started to see myself as on a mission here in this container.

The purpose of this whole club is to bring together a group of people who wanna support each other and empower each other to win. You have to have a tribe. You cannot succeed alone in life. It’s hard to go through life by yourself and try to be the only person that is picking yourself back up. It’s good to be in a space where you have people that are not just your cheerleaders, but giving you good suggestions on how you can handle those challenges, so it’s something I’m really excited about because this is where people can go to get their mind and their heart on the same page. –

As you can tell, Sean’s got an amazing story. But people always ask me like Russell, how do I do videos like that? And they think that they need emotional videos, like they think that they need to be crying. And they record a video and they don’t cry and they’ll try again, be like, I didn’t cry. It’s not emotional. But you don’t understand, emotion’s not just crying. Like there’s a time and a place for that.

But emotion is excitement, it’s energy, it’s showing how you actually feel. If you watch any of my videos, watch this video, I’m excited right now as you can probably tell from my eyes and my voice and my, my voice fluctuations, and people are attracted to energy. So the more emotion you can show could be, it could be emotional crying, it could be sad, it could be happy, it could be joy, it could be just energy, it could be excitement. Like that’s the key to really making a video that people are gonna emotionally connect with, it’s actually showing your true emotion about how you feel.

I know that sometimes when you put a camera on, you get nervous and you get awkward. But the key is is really getting, coming back to a state and remembering what it was that got you so excited and then telling people that story from that state. If you do that, they’re gonna feel exactly what you felt when you were in that state the first time it actually happened to you. Want more marketing secrets? All right, we’re back from Arizona and this week, we’re spending a lot of time working on videos ’cause videos are the connection point in almost every single funnel, every single ad.

And if you remember the episode a little while ago, the 24 episode where we built that three or four funnels in a 24 hour period of time. One of the funnels we built was for a product called WakeShake. And the WakeShake video, if I’m completely honest, when all was said and done, we weren’t very happy with it. And we wanted to redo it. We wanted to make something that was funnier, something that caused emotion and we got people to laugh. But also something that placed a seed of doubt.

One of the most powerful selling mechanisms we have, one of the most powerful tools is to place a seed of doubt inside the mind of the customer for all the other alternatives besides your product and your service. Inside of WakeShake, the core, the type of protein is collagen protein, which has a whole bunch of really good benefits. Helps your skin, helps your nails, but it also doesn’t have whey in it. And so from this video, we wanted to place a seed of doubt showing that whey is the thing that causes the problems. Everyone around you will be happy you did. – So the important lesson in what you learned from this is that every time you put a video out there, it’s not always gonna work the first time. Sometimes you have to do it over and over and over again. But have fun with the process, make it enjoyable. Like all of us are literally running our own little mini ad agencies which is so exciting to think about. And so have some fun with the creative and figure out how to capture the stories in a video that’s gonna get somebody to move and take action.

Now, next video I wanna share with you guys that we created was one for a friend named Tim Larkin. Now Tim runs a business teaching people self defense, but not normal self defense. This is basically, if somebody comes and attacks you, how do you, how do you put them out? How do you pop their eyeball out? How do you kill them by karate chopping them in the throat before they have a chance to attack you? And he’s told me that for a long time and he wanted some help with the funnel. I said, okay, this is the deal.

I would love to help you with the video for your funnel, but first off, I want you to come to Boise and to actually train me and train my team so that way if somebody meets me in the street, I can pop their eye out or choke them out, whatever it is we needed to do. And so lucky for us, Tim and his entire team flew out and gave us a two day training in my wrestling room, showing us how to defend ourselves in case of an attack. (man grunting) – Strike.

First or second knuckle, we want all five of them to be wet. And I do this. (man grunting) There, if I’ve done that correctly, coming off the wall with my body weight. And the eyes available to me. Hit high sternum, it goes right up into the neck every time. It’s gonna resist for a second, and then break. And what we’re doing is we wanna compress and crush the bone. Find the target, strike the target.

When you’re throwing something with body weight… Finding targets. Without doing anything, I’d much rather be here. Everything I need right now is here and that’s back there. Come through. (man grunting) (man yelling) Want that eye. (energetic music) (man screaming) – All right, and after Tim spent two days with us training us, which we had so much fun, we started looking at his funnel to figure out why it wasn’t working as well as they wanted to.

Funnels Video Marketing: The biggest problem in ads

One of the biggest problems was the ads they were using were all showing tons and tons of violence. Which worked good through emails and through banner ads, but when you started trying to go to Facebook and other platforms, they just don’t allow violence in their video ads and things like that. I said, you know, Tim your story’s amazing, let’s try to capture it in a way that’s not violent, showing people attacking each other, but it’s finding a way that’s emotional.

Actually telling your story like why you do what you do, why you’re so passionate about it. And so we set up a camera and we had a chance to capture this story of Tim telling his story about why he does what he does. – One of the presentations I did, they took us all on a really nice cruise. And they had asked me at one point, that a lot of the girls were going off to college in the next year, and everybody’s concerned about their self protection. And would I do an extra class where the dads and the daughters could come and they could go through a training.

I had one girl that came in, and she truly, if you’ve seen the movie Legally Blonde, this was the Reese Witherspoon character in life. I mean totally had the L.A. talk down and she was not happy that Dad had her come and take away two days basically, of the cruise. She went through the course and she did, she did everything. And about two and a half years later, she came in unannounced to one of my New York seminars. And she knew right away, she looked at me, she goes, “Oh you haven’t heard what happened.” I don’t know, what happened?

She had gone to college that following year. She had a dorm room on the first floor of a dorm, they constantly left their door and their windows open. The the guy that attacked her had been casing the place for about two weeks. And he got their patterns down. And he understood that her roommate would spend at least two to three nights a week with her boyfriend in another part of the campus. And one night she woke up literally to a guy on top of her. You know, he was a 230 pound male. And the first thing that popped into her head was the training that she had with us. And she understood that bigger, faster, stronger threat, he’s on top of me, I can’t change this. But I also know, I only have that one chance.

She was able to draw him in, he adjusted and when he did that, he brought his head closer. And that’s when she was able to reach around and attack his eye. And she knew to hold on to him, ’cause he’s much bigger, stronger, because she knew that people violently react away from that type of an injury. So much so, that he pulled her up off the bed and then went down, hit the hardwood floor. When they hit the hardwood floor, she kinda felt his body just kinda relax (inhales deeply) go like that, and that gave her her opportunity to run down the hall and start screaming for help. By the time they came back, the rapist had asphyxiated and died.

They later found out this guy had been going for the last six years to various campuses and doing this type of sexual assaults on women. When I hear from somebody like this girl, or I’ve had various doctors, people that are there just trying to help people who are just completely innocent, it makes it all worth while to do that. Because oftentimes you’re not sure. You know like with her, I didn’t think I reached her at all. I’m gonna literally show you how to injure the human body, break a structure or sensory system in the human body to save your life.

And you’re gonna know physiologically what happens to the body and why you need to be able to do that. And what the ramifications are. And the idea is if the brain has not gone there before, it won’t be there for you. And the perfect example is in sexual assaults. Oftentimes with women, the perpetrator, when they catch him, he’ll have scratches all down his face, all down his face. So you know that she had the ability to reach to there.

All that did was put his skin underneath her fingernails. Now that helps solve her murder. Whereas if she just understood that if she just penetrated the plane into the eye, that would affected a real injury that would have given her a much better chance of surviving that situation. Unfortunately, to get people there and to have them train correctly, I have to give them physical training of how to actually protect themselves when they have no choice. And that involves using the tool of violence. –

Now the last video we’re gonna dive into today was a really fun project we had. It was a product we created called Funnel Graffiti, which was basically these little stickers, you could go and you could put it on a window or on a mirror and map out your funnels before you build them inside of click funnels. And so, we have the product, we’re trying to figure out what’s a fun, exciting way we can make a video for this?

So I called up Brandon, had him come over. I called Jared and Nicole, we sat down, we started brainstorming like, how can we make something fun and exciting to get people to wanna buy this product? And so we started brainstorming like, what are all the different ways people build funnels right now? And one of our, it was kinda funny was, maybe in the shower you’re mapping it out in the shower. And then we kinda took it to the next level, like what if you use the wife’s lipstick and actually mapped it out with lipstick in the shower?

What if the couple’s out to lunch or out to dinner and they’re making it inside their food? We talked about, there’s this place in downtown Boise called Freak Alley which is this big, huge graffiti street. And they rent out different spots, different local artists to come and do new graffiti. And we thought how cool would it be if we could actually like graffiti us doing a funnel there as well.

And it’s kind of a funny story, ’cause we called them up and it just turned out, it happened to be that they, once a year they bring in new artists to go and do graffiti here in Freak Alley, and it was just during that time when they’re about to have new artists come in. They said, well, you can come in, but you got like a one day window. You have to get the whole thing done today, because day the new artist’s coming in with all the new graffiti. And so I called up my buddy Rob and if you haven’t met Rob yet, Rob did all the graffiti design painting in my wrestling room.

He’s done tons of logo design art for us. He’s one of the most amazing, talented designers I’ve ever met in my life. I call him, I said, Rob, I wanna fly you to Boise to come do Funnel Graffiti and literally spray paint funnels on the side of a wall. And obviously he was in. We flew him down and went to Freak Alley to go and create some of the footage for the Funnel Graffiti video. (electronic music) – Okay, I’m ready to hit start. – [Man] Okay. – [Camera Man] Ready to run with this if he’s ready. – [Brandon] All right, so we got the time lapse set up.

We got a bunch of Kessler gear goin’. And then we’ve got other time lapses going. We’re just time lapsing time lapses that are time lapsing those time lapses. It’s getting pretty crazy. (gentle music) (spray can hissing) (spray can hissing) – What my dad would think. Whatever. – That’d be dope. (Russell mumbling) (paint mixers rattling) (Nicole hissing) (Jared yelling) – One of the other things I really wanted to do is I wanted a cop car, thought that’d be really really funny. But apparently it’s harder to get a cop to come and just flip the sirens on than we thought. So, Brandon figured out a way to make that possible. And so we had these cop car lights. (siren wailing) Anyway, it’s amazing and so I’m gonna show you guys the video for the Funnel Graffiti right now. (Nicole yawning) (water splashing) – Jared! – Honey, this is my book funnel.

It’s an opt in right here with their name and their email address and a submit button and the video. Then they come over here to the confirmation page. If they don’t opt in, they can come– – Jared! Jared! Is that my lipstick? – I dunno, is yours the rouge de livre? – It’s my lipstick. Honey, there has to be a better way. Jared, are you using my noodles? – Yes, but I had this great idea. (paint mixer rattling) –

You got the name and email address and then this is the confirmation page. And then up here, we’re gonna have some email confirmations and some follow up like this, and then we’re gonna have the webinar registration. – Okay, honey, this is great. But we have a reservation in five minutes. – Come on, you can’t tell me that this isn’t the best date ever. (siren whooping) Ummm, we gotta go. –

You told me anybody could paint here. – I may have over stated, let’s go, let’s go! – There has got to be a better way. (siren wailing) – Go! Go! – [TV Reporter] Capitol Hill, the work out– – [TV Reporter] Darren Haynes, SportCenter anchor ESPN. – Honey. – Hey. – I was right. – About what this time? – Well there is a better way. I got you a present. – What? What is this? Funnel Graffiti? Are these stickers? – Reusable stickers.

You can do it on a window, obviously you do it on whiteboard, you could do it, you could do it on the frigerator. As long as your daughters aren’t using the refrigerator magnets. You can do it on the TV even. As long as I’m not watching The Bachelor or Bachelorette. – [Jared] Nice. – [Nicole] You know, you could even do this in the car. As long as I’m driving. – [Jared] (laughs) Okay. We could do affiliates on our webinar to promote the webinar. – No more lipstick, no more noodles, no more spray paint. – How much did this cost? – Free. – What? I could build funnels! Yes! I could build funnels! –

All right, that project was a ton of fun, it was a lot of work, but it turned out really really cool and sold a ton of Funnel Graffiti for us. And so if you felt like even during this episode, watching these different videos, seeing what we did with Sean, seeing what we did with WakeShake, seeing what we did with Funnel Graffiti, any of these things, wanna understand that this is the type of artisticness that you gotta put into your funnels.

Funnels are very much like the science, like page one, page two, page three. But it’s the art that gets people to buy. It’s thinking like an ad agent, saying what are the videos that are gonna hook people? Make ’em laugh, make ’em cry, get them to wanna move forward and move towards you. And that’s really the goal of this entire episode we wanted to share with you is have some fun while creating your videos and your messaging because that’s what gets people to come towards you.
