in fact it everybody that is the coolest thing ever I’m pretty sure I’m like a mascot at a local elementary school now are you serious huh offer you made cool oh yeah a huge helmet only the best whenever I pick this stuff out – my wife looks at me like I’m insane and I say it’s a tax deduction honey I’ll be able to prove that I used it for business purposes how many helmets how many masks you actually have now mute Canada I think 30 something crap we should like you should have a wall and just like like lined up everywhere you seem all the time like the rednecks around here with their deer heads and stuff I can have like dead masks on my wall it’d be awesome I killed that Hulk that’s too cool are you gonna keep on the web story we’re gonna die this time well I think I’ll take it off here in just a minute okay so what are we doing today I do an awesome man it’s been a crazy like growing probably three or four weeks blogging month-long see but for the last few years but really final gears how many funnel years yes especially in the last few weeks but this week was amazing guys this is my first week of had a chance to actually work in a long time what do you mean work in a long time I see you on that shoe dang that’s good – take that off you know what are you talking about work my dog scared of the mask um you’re working all the time I saw this thing you made Steven do 300 funnels in in like 33 minutes and and you had like 8,000 funnel years and stuff since recorded history and we can have nothing just two decks there’s work that’s like I have tits on my calendar schedule I have to do and I hate that kind there’s like when my calendar has back you have me one this is like a white circle with nothing in it those are my days making the work that want to it’s like that’s my special video so that was what I got news what week is my special days nice a guy in your circle against my special days are gone but I’m sure they’re glad to hear that well thanks a lot ruffle awesome what we’ve got a whole new level the show we got sound effect guys we’ve got sound board that’s right that’s what we do and just be just be aware that at some point you will probably be offended yeah I might try to pretend this word I want you to be outright but I do it gay okay okay Jim you son of a you can’t show that to people I’ve never got to eat my own videos I know curse so it’s just kind of exciting I don’t beep mine either we had gary vee viral video launch and so I love odd cast out like his Q&A on our podcast but my podcast has always been like kid-friendly so I’m like ah so I had my brother beep all of the the gary f words and there’s a lot of them so like it’s the cleaned up versions there but then my Gary post on his podcast like not cleaned up that’s not something post some comment that I cross like I keep these beeps or drive me crazy to go to Gary’s you go listen to the hardcore version so chance to beat myself that was pretty sad anyway thank you goodnight series I do what I can so today well first how does everything your side of the world everything is fantabulous thank you for asking I’m actually getting ready for a big GORUCK event here in a couple of weeks so I’ve been doing a lot of training with my very heavy backpack and doing squats in the middle of the road and stuff and my neighbors are looking at me and usual like I’m insane and I’ve been working very hard on funnel scripts in case anybody has cared in fact we’re gonna demo something that’s not even available yet but I guess when people see it they’re gonna do it we won’t know so I guess it’ll be the thing that will release next instead of the thing I was going to release and as long as everybody likes it if they don’t like it then I guess we’ll release it later and I know it’s looking we’re doing this 1/4 cup raisins number one is because you’ve got so many cool things right what’s the cool thing you can show off you told me my Karl second thing is I through our software he found out there like people that have a custom domain stay on average like three times longer than someone who doesn’t people who log in once a day stay like five times longer we found out all these things that keep people is sticky longer which I great how to make a game because people actually do those things I’m so I custom domain for example so his customer mainly say three times longer so now used to be really hard to set a customer made and click funnel so we we fixed it down where it’s like you click a button you click them too many clicks by and it automatically by like welcome to be like a 20 step process so you just buy it and then in the game we actually buy the first domain I actually paid 20 bucks in my pocket to buy the first domain for people through the onboarding process so always the big deals like right you want to click photos now is top screens you can see there’s a game it’s like cruising the game you click here and there’s things that you do so you this one’s got a little Batman this is a hero photos click on it it pulls out it has like here’s the step by step process you watch the video and tells you what to do to get the thing and then you go here to get stuck there’s to this like we like become obsessed with all right call onboarding process so I think everybody like if you start looking for your onboarding this huge but I think it’s for any prime so goodbye is like a membership site of ebook or anything you should have an arm or anything afterwards to get it the cell to stick right so I think we need to figure out how to do for a product with a bunch of you for cool which product you want to do it for even like funnel you or something like that have a funnel scripts you know how funnel scripts okay we can do that two birds on a funnel scripts where were you from scripts to scripts where we actually this is actually kind of like cheating cuz I’ve already got an example in there for funnel scripts maximums epaulet funds I think that’s meaning verbage burger doll terminology yeah I sorta clock sorry we’re starting that me starting your into a new lexicon oh we need some we need some cool music for this would you say 80 minutes we’re good yeah yeah okay 8 minutes from because I started I know for cheating I don’t want to all right so go here so they call saying fun all scripts onboarding and my group tag we funnel scripts mmm and then you have a list as I’m King list yet so I also create a list and I figure out SMTP I’m just gonna create action fun right now okay so now you’ll notice that this looks just like a click funnels follow only the follow up funnel what so this how works if you click add new step what’s the step I’m gonna call this email Dave number one and so you send me delete click add new funnel step and then there’s the first day thing and I can click another funnel step on the email number two I had it and then there’s thank you and this becomes like a fun I’m saying email farm I said like here’s the steps of the pages I’m thinking this is the sequence I’m gonna take them through like day three for like OD three I want to send them a protects I’m on day two I say do a text message click Add and then now it’s like now ask me you know one email cue them in this text message you can build out a whole sequence of a whole bunch of stuff emails text messages voice broadcast you can do it with pay pixels in in Facebook you can do it with direct mail you can do it with whole bunch of cool ninja awesome stuff so Wow we do anyway it’s awesome alright so we wizard this first I know what you knows I’m actually putting in here yeah that might be a good idea um so let me I’m gonna share my screen and here we go so can you guys see this it’s an onboarding email message funnel sequence yep okay so basically what this is going to do creates 11 or 12 emails for you I think 11 emails and they’re in a certain sequence the the one thing I want to say is that even though they’re in a sequence you can mix and match them however you want if you want to use one and not use another one and replace it with something else that’s fine too there’s there’s not really a there is a method to the madness on this but it’s not like this is the only one you can do on this day and that’s it so just want you to understand that because people get caught up in the process or you know in the in the gears of it rather than you know doing it so um actually I mean my example was for funnel scripts Russell didn’t know that so let’s go through these real quick okay you see this you’ll be like holy crap that’s why I’m say it’s 20 minutes to write eleven emails I mean that’s kind of yellow he knows that for me that’s probably a good five or six hour project but I really hate it I do my thing you know I just want to bump you up so then the new thing is basically you want to tell the Epiphany bridge or the origin story which we have both of them to help you in funnel scripts you can you want to tell the Epiphany bridge or the origin story behind the product or service whatever it is you’re selling so if you don’t haven’t have that done yet you can click on they’re these next two are basically how can people get a better faster result and everybody talks about hacks funnel hackers so what’s a speed hack with your product or service so I wrote up you know that that basically funnel scripts makes it super easy for you to create the first draft and then so I tell people how to get the best results which is basically four steps fill out the script hit the button read the output and then as you read the output and come to a bold section if it doesn’t read right then ask yourself what should this say here and then just jump back up the form change the wording hit the build button again and then just repeat steps two through four until it’s perfect and it’ll be done really quick so that’s a speed hack an effort hack is basically something that’ll make it easier and faster for people to use your product so I just did a few sentences about how they can use funnel script to reduce effort and then this one here what’s some existing content you’d like to share with them so what I did was I went through the ClickFunnels™ blog and I found some copywriting related stuff that was already created I found three different things that people should go check out about copywriting like you added stuff right but it’s stuff that’s already done yeah and then and you could do anything here I mean you could send them to posts specific things on your Facebook page videos I mean it’s just they’re coming into your funnel they they don’t know all this stuff you’ve got all these these goods in your larder pull a few out and show them and then how can they give you feedback you know you can give us feedback reply to this email go this URL whatever so you know again 20 25 minutes to write all these emails so we click the build button okay so you program more noises of that machine DB can I what program different noises into your machine thing you know we see the way the problem is that’s copyrighted and they’d probably then come after us hey associated with it because it’s because it’s a pain in the ass that’s why it’s a pain in it makes you feel like so they don’t say to all these links that Jim had in there I’m hyperlinking your mom so so you know what let’s talk about what the I’m gonna I’m going to stop sharing my screen here for a second so that you can see my ugly mug but um let’s talk about what the philosophy is behind onboarding I mean the purpose of onboarding at the beginning it’s – it’s to get people to here’s your here’s how you get your stuff because that’s the number one hurdle is I bought it when do I get it how do I access it that’s the number one thing people run into then what you want to do is you want to make sure they’re getting your emails so you send a shorty the next day saying basically thanks and if you have any problems contact us here then what you want to do is get these people to start using whatever they have bought from you because if they use it they’re much less likely to refund and they’re much more likely to actually get the result that they wanted in the first place so that they’ll stay subscriber they’ll stay a member they’ll stay a loyal customer and then what your object is to do is to then teach them how to get even better results so you need to get them that first result quickly then you need them to help them get more results and better results till finally they’re in a position where all they can do is tell everybody how amazing you are and and refer their friends does that make sense oh it’s like we call like like often they would drag lift letters were so like straight to the sell build relationship help yeah it’s like there’s so many yeah most people don’t do it because they’re just like oh I sold the thing I got the money I want to message them begins like no my texts when you start messaging them in building the relationship but it’s hard to write the emails too so what we’ve done here I don’t know which email you’re on about look if there’s even look how cool what you know it’s like there’s email one that we set out hey easy now so crazy cool so I’m gonna say this I could put one space between the hey there and my name’s Russell it kicks up so other thing is like you listen your email like put in your phone you see like you see the names subject line they see something else this is a little secret inside ashtec’s this buddy here says pretty so this is your second email Highline you click on here that can be like open for awesome stuff you know and now there’s a second headline that shows up in the email inbox so it’s like name subject line pre head nope somebody noticed even in there you got a second headline it yes yes okay I saved it boom so then check out email everyone’s done so you look at this it’ll show me as like right now it says it’s partying will you see this this pause right I said I’ve just all done I can unpause it and then I do it I’ll see it will come in it’ll show me how people in queue to get this email how many these emails been sent let me fail them and open every click so you kind of see in real time what’s happening as people are moving down through this through this follow-up funnel here like I knew the subject let’s click here and it a sub from so from russell brunson here’s a subject line so subject line jim sent me with funnel strips welcome boom and now email number one is done i would probably lose me i probably changed the name of this to an email day one to like welcome like remember what it’s actually happening actually in there there’s one now gonna email number two in the phone so you do squeeze page sales page or before i same thing it’s just what’s the second message even though they to pick my template food that fast i got a template opening the email looking more and more like I couldn’t keep working from home and would have to go find a real job again as you can imagine I was in bad shape and desperate but I wasn’t ready to give up on my dream of using the internet to sell my products and really help people make a difference in their lives it was at that moment that I discovered the power of using sales copy blueprints and templates and at where basically you’re just asking them to just close that loop with you and you’re trying to get a testimonial or a case study or something of that nature so that’s the 11 emails that this thing writes for you again if it took you 30 minutes to to fill in the form here on ClickFunnels™ when how can you go wrong I mean it’s it’s so that and and I will tell you guys not to toot my own horn or whatever you know that took a long time to put all that together that’s like a month’s worth of work to make that thing work so you see photo stream members you get this entire thing for free because thing is it’s always easier to rewrite something is than it is to write it in the first place so maybe the email is not exactly what you would say and how you would say it but you’ve got all the right a Benjamin you know just just obviously we’re not gonna get all these done here but but what is your what are your thoughts I mean this is one way of onboarding them the thing that I the way that I laid all this out and I tried to make it as as cool for every single type you know a physical product a supplement an MLM you know a service coaching ebook software I mean all those things what what are your thoughts or what is your intention when your onboarding somebody you know essentially because um I think a lot of us marketers or whatever we like ourselves like we’ll spend so much time creating the funnel and the traffic and add all stuff I mean ever it’s it’s like probably the most important part for steak and for a future sales only sure no time woo very few of us ever folks on so is in tribute to our business right now I’m about he weeks away from rolling this thing out but it’s is it all morning not only just for I guess onboarding fern somebody joins my list like what something joins my world I want all more them as well I guess it’s so interesting how I think you’re looking at the wrong camera sorry I 10 cameras which one turn to your left there you go there is if I close this down to the camera say now okay now you’re back over there okay three monitors screws me anyway on like we’re building an onboarding sequence the Literacy’s one joins our list like here’s the onboarding I there in my whirling I got a it’s all of a sudden thinking more about that like when something comes into your world so just like I’m Cynthia you know it’s a southern products like on boredom it’s you and your tech in my your world and like why should care about you might show in your emails like and like you linking to your contents like I didn’t think about that way similar order we like my initial email sequences like would it I know I was thinking if my mom was to buy my product right now I’m taking her through a process like what would be the order that I would introduce things to her in right right my mom knows nothing about this whole island guy hey mom you should go watch the action exchanged a good I don’t even know you know him on first step watch this video I did three years ago but this is his friend best foundation watch that first and tomorrow go do the I like and something trying to strategically think through that I think that everything we’re doing like as soon as we get somebody to enter our world or buy a product or anything it’s like most of us stop at that point is we’re so focused on the sale the sale to sell the cell is like like because that’s the sales like the beginning of this thing right you doc I’m sorry secrets it’s the beginning of the value ladder and most right folks are the first selling we stop that’s what we did a presentation that funnel hacking live last year call it was called fallen funnels and I did the math for every was it for every dollar we made in a funnel food that follow-up email and onboarding and pushing through the other funnels it was a 16 you know it has 16 X 16 times we made through through this site and just like the follow-up funnels and the on board like that process and so it’s like no one thinks about or does it but it’s very much wharton part so i think it for me the way i visualize it is and the way I think mechanically we do it is is when we launch something we think of this crowd that’s going to come and take a look at it and how many people in that crowd can I get to convert in the funnel right I mean that’s mentally that’s how I see it but then where all this stuff I mean I’ve had follow-up funnels I didn’t call it a follow-up funnel but I mean I’d follow up funnels and had as many as three years of messages in it that worked for a long time and then that the only thing got to do is just make sure you keep stuff up-to-date don’t don’t like have stuff disappear but what what helped me the most was to envision the follow-up funnel one person at a time just like you did with your mom think about your avatar think about your ideal customer and walk them personally through the funnel one person at a time not trying to lead a group in the follow-up funnel like you’re thinking in terms of making the sale on the front but literally envision your perfect customer leading them taking them by the hand from that instant of purchase into the future to work with you and stick with you and I think that’s that will SH if you do that you will do the right thing if that makes sense yeah we we did so in the direct I’m sorry like I would you or sales and for two summers and they always taught us that 80% of sales they at least five follow-ups and most sales guys give up after just use the one shot forty two what percent of them give up after just one follow-up and like you keep doing over and over and over again onboard it’s your own presence ice pretty yeah but yeah probably five times yeah well I think before so many people buy that follow up though also in this case they’ve already bought but what we’re trying to do is solidify the relationship and I think that that takes constant you can’t just get married and then you know be nice to your wife for a week and then expect her to stick at you for ten years that just don’t I mean you got its its building that relationship so you know what I tried to design into the sequence came from my experience over the last twenty years and if you notice for that first ten days or whatever it is I’m not trying to sell them anything all I’m trying to do is get them to use what they bought and then with that final feedback thing you’re trying to get them to acknowledge that hey this has been really great value and then you can move them into those many funnels of hey here’s a here’s a cool to really solidify that relationship at least that’s what I interpreted an onboarding funnel should do i I think it’s yeah so for everyone listening right now live or recorded like like that are youtubers vloggers instagramers a lot of people are talking about Facebook Ads Instagram and snapchat ads ROI we can measure our alonissos its you can measure with influencers – you can but it takes a lot longer doesn’t Hausa you’ve got to make the creative be a sales creative instead of a brand creative you can’t measure the ROI of Facebook either when you do it the way I do it because I’m pumping it for brand not trying to sell you I can measure it if I had a $49 course so how much people are confused between branding and selling make phenomenal influencers go for the sale in the creative if they choose to and you can afford them logan paul sold a load of dunkin donut gift cards sales super measurable Josh so would you focus like let’s pretend you’re not Gary Vaynerchuk right let’s take you out of the equation you are man I your you are a 41 year old 42 41 still 41 41 slow your roll you’re a 41 year old nobody right you have say a million dollars of investors behind you but you’re definitely not nobody but let’s just look contact Joshy all right fine nobody right yeah will you focus on growing your personal brand or would you focus on leveraging other people’s personal brands that don’t already thing so you would you would you ride the backs of using the people that you’re building like that you’re investing in and for yeah okay like if you’re trying to are you asking Josh what are you asking I’ll give you the answer you’re trying to build your personal brand I am trying to be my personal brain thank you yeah absolutely are you thinking about departing I want to build my personal brand in a different niche than the influencers that I want to invest in understood I think that is long understand this just because they may be in a different niche they have so much awareness that the people that watch them may won’t be into other things got it yep so if it’s a good deal on awareness you might be able to convert and then your product has to be good cool do you know what I mean yeah like that’s the math you’re looking at you don’t have to use the targeted nature of the ads if the influencers a better deal even though you might lose 85% of the audience because that’s not why they’re watching them but they’re still gonna get 15% of opportunity and then the whole kit and caboodle is are you good enough all right well last question um I am a die-hard diehard Patriots fan if if Tom Brady makes it to a Super Bowl this year will you go to the Super Bowl with me on me no no and not only that I’ve been to the last six Super Bowls they’ve been there two or three times you know and I’m now with Boehner Sports and Steve Rothstein order dolphins my business partners I go and the owners dinner it’s all fun the last two Super Bowls two of the last three Super Bowls I left the city Sunday more I’ve not watched the Patriots play a down of a Super Bowl game in the last four Super Bowls that they’ve played in because I refused everybody’s like the greatest comeback in a Super Bowl I’m good I have no idea you guys are talking about I didn’t see well you like winners and I’d like to invite you to the winning team no no Josh Josh you’re confused my friends I’m a winner you root for winners dick be careful that by the way you just witnessed my favorite move Knicks heat game seven years ago dude walks by beer remember sports muscles guys I get up and like you suck sit down I mean I get weird you said he looks at me goes yeah we suck look at the scoreboard go I go not then you Paul you suck by the way the darkest version of what you just saw and Josh knows I love him but the darkest version I go to Foxborough for every game we always get on around the third fourth quarter when I’m really getting on because I bring my jetski I’m running in their proper right somewhere around the fourth quarter when I’m getting on I change the conversation I’m like look zan I’m super pumped that your entire self esteem is wrapped into your football team because you work at Pizza Hut and so you my life’s better than yours maybe your football team is better than mine but I’m better than use an Jared hey Gary so going back a little bit you talked about intuition right and belief in your intuition yes I’m a two day I idea guy right idea and then me to me after two days I’m like I was like a seven that you let to write more right Nicole like eat that like he bothers the better you right yeah he’s like what about a drone ice-cream company go ahead that’s a good idea so how do you develop that intuition and how do you like support and strengthen your belief in your own intuition to my ass light by acting on some of them the biggest problem is especially when you have like people around you is like you want to be right right like it’s much better than getting made fun of for being wrong consistently but like by picking like just by I try to do stuff every day you know everyone’s like ah you’re always in it like doing like just trying like nobody talks about the stuff that I’m doing that guys nobody remembers the part where Michael Jordan couldn’t get to the finals cuz the pistons were beating him every single time you know what I mean guys let me really unleash you doing more nobody remembers the losses as long as you have a win and you know like listen some of you know my stuff and like I’m starting to like figure out my own stuff it comes down to six people your mom your dad your siblings your loved ones you’re doing so much based on their points of view on stuff you can’t even imagine you can unwind that you’re off to the races it scares me how much I value my wife and parents opinion and how much I don’t at all and in that balance I win at a macro I value them but on a micro my decisions not at all you know judge so you just got to do one or two of them you go you go one four seven it’s a lot better than going to oh four oh yeah thank you you guys last question yeah sign it yeah it’s just not my book 100% hi let’s do it well I’m signing what’s your question Katie hi Gary I’m Katie Richardson and I was first introduced to you as I was trying to go to bed at night and my husband’s got his phone on and I’m hearing this guy make a rant in a cab throwing throwing f-bombs here the other word I’m like what’s my kiss this and turns out you speak tons of truth and so you have won over this mother of four who’s a business owner and I love and today what my question to you is is like you own who you are and I love that and like that’s what people are so attracted to right and for procedure up there being Gary at what point like you talked about how you work worked with your dad and it was a three million dollar company and then you took it a ten million after he left at what point did you like give yourself permission to be you and then realize like tell us that story but when you were like wow this is working people are connecting with me and my way of being and like what was that like when you’re like this is working I feel like I’m gonna keep doing this you know it’s funny there’s thank you first of all there’s a lot of things there number one it is 100% because of nature nurture being an immigrant and always having a chip in your children you’re always an outcast to begin with at some level and I was a Russian immigrant which was our major enemy when I was a kid so I had some weird going on that I tell a whole lot cuz it’s not as relevant these days but there’s a lot of parallels to whoever the bad guys are now I was the bad guy she’s kind of weird for a little while number two my mom came a mom lied like I remember walking sophomore year in high school no freshman year in high school I’m 4 foot 11 my freshman year high school i spurred it in sophomore year I’m one I have the worst mullet you’ve ever seen in your life I’ve got a backpack that I’m rolling with that’s bigger than me and I’m walking down the hall and I go I remember I remember as vividly I’m like wait a minute I’m not the best-looking awesomest dude in the world like my mom had me so brainwashed I’m being serious on straight positivity that like that never went away like my mom if I open the door for a woman like my mom was super smart I’m doing the same thing she would make if I opened the door this is a true story kitty I opened the door for a woman when I was nine at McDonald’s but that’s the story I went to McDonald’s woman was coming I held the door open for her my mom reacted as if I won the Nobel Peace Prize and she did that about all the that matters which is what makes me who I am today fourth-grade Katie fourth grade I got an F in a science test I needed to get it signed because I guess that’s how they used to do it I don’t know if they still do that I flushed it down the toilet because my dad hadn’t gotten to me yet and uh and and then like I was like but I was still a kid so my conscious was still around and so I just couldn’t sleep and I told my mom and basically three weeks later I was sitting in social studies fourth grade and said this amount and from that day on I decided to fail every class work on my business skills and become who I’m gonna be I love it thank you you’re welcome right it’s my second time sorry sorry Brett’s yeah I just had a quick ask I make amazing baby products and I don’t know if you’re still having babies or not but if welcome Bret so I was gonna say this my second time seeing you and it’s funny how a different energy of different audiences like the first time I went you were like you even told the audience I am NOT excited to be here I looked at your stuff it sucks and and the lady had been like talking about coaching the whole time then you’re like don’t do it just do stuff anyways it was awesome it was there’s just a couple of months ago in Provo but it was funny um but anyways quick side question was like do you sense different energy and audience 100% okay because it’s like it is this thing I own I have my religions and my beliefs then I have my craft so I’m doing everything state-of-the-art right so I have my thesis then I have my work I was in Seattle yesterday I spent nine hours understand the boys space love my craft my craft so I have my thesis is Brett I have my craft and my the reason I’m doing well in speaking is I take my thesis ‘as I take my craft which sometimes has some nuances that are valuable right usually always ahead of the market and then I reverse engineer the actual audience I reverse engineer the audience like what I give a lot of thought and speak to the people that organize who are you where are you in your funnel of life and like what can I bring to the most general and how quick can I get to QA so that whatever I miss in the general we can get to in the details I totally agree because it’s just a different energy but I feel this time versus last time but my big question is please you think of like levar ball or yes Kim Kardashian any of these or even Donald Trump for that matter like I can culture yeah like what are your thoughts on them and like is that the kind of Fame you want is that the comment you talked about Fame being the biggest arbitrage what are your thoughts on those kind of people so there’s a really interesting thing that I believe in which is until you know somebody you don’t know somebody right and so like look I mean getting political never works but like you know Trump’s got his schtick right and the like he won on my thesis for the last ten years right Kim Kardashian literally is like like we are all living in reality TV people on reality TV in Hollywood then influencers they’re all gonna pay because if you’re not abiding to what the consumer wants you will always lose it doesn’t matter what you want on your ivory tower it matters what the world is consuming but I don’t be very very very frank I don’t think about it a whole lot right I know why they’re winning they were native DJ Khaled is an unbelievably important case study in the in the last 10 years and the next 10 years his personality was native to a platform at the right time in the right moment and he disproportionately changed his career on that back Kim Kardashian Donald Trump navigated reality TV when reality TV was what social media has been for last four years somebody here’s gonna get inspired and make a voice application for their business that will be that for when voice is here in two years for the next six years from 2000 22 2026 it’s literally the same game over and over Brett so I want what I want listen Fame and exposure you know like it doesn’t change you it exposes who you are so I don’t know how you personally judge those three and everybody here judges those three differently I just want to be known for what I am and who I am and how I roll appreciate that thank you you got it very good hey Jamie how are you um I’m here with my amazing husband Josh who’s like my backbone an amazing business partner I’m a little googly talking to you because I remember meeting Justin Timberlake when I was 14 but you’re like my 32 year old Backstreet Boys he was an NSYNC oh yeah I loved them all but I love you more for the past seven years you’ve given me the ability to be really authentic I’m in a niche for it’s very Club promoting okay nice network marketing yep so I basically for the last seven years have sold my soul to direct selling companies and they made a lot of money and have built an incredible following of network marketers and direct sellers and now that I built a great team that’s passive and I serve them and I love them but I really want to branch out into more mainstream impact primarily to female entrepreneurs and I want to know what’s your recommendation for somebody like me who’s had this huge niche they all expect me to be the prospector the clothes of the lead generator the team builder just now to say all right imagine if we had coffee I’m gonna give you the 90 percent answer because there’s 10 percent that’s too personal I don’t want to do it here you will net you have – I have to figure out how mainstream you want to be I’ll buy you coffee I’m sure every day I don’t know how mainstream you want to be so like if you want to be mainstream like the cover of Forbes and like like mainstream like all the way mainstream you’ll have to give up network marketing yeah completely and I have no problem with whatever God has for me I just would know I mean that’s it’s a stunningly binary answer Rach cracked if you know if you want to go mainstream you have to give it up because it is a danger what’s that because of the stigma a hundred percent yeah and the my last question the math around how many people make money in it and how many don’t correct my last question is is there any trends that you see or platforms or any advice that you see with women entrepreneurs primarily my age 30s 40s yes so the thing you know it’s funny Katie right um hey Katie said the most important part I’ve become unbelievably fascinated and empathetic about the difference between men and women you know I’m super fascinated by it from a business standpoint that’s my lens to the world it’s harder to be 100% yourself when you’re a woman that a man I genuinely believe that because men are dick faces right and so the answer to your question is to be 100% radically transparently you I’m also massively empathetic how that’s difficult for everybody especially attractive women that’s the answer thank you got it what’s up man so good man so four years ago I was couch surfing and living out of my car and I sat in a room with Gary and thirteen you know they’re 13 other kids and Gary told us that this app was going to change our lives forever and it did and Gary was such a positive change on my life now unfortunately they deleted the app what away yep that’s amazing actually I just wanted to make that joke but but I knew but but for real question real question for you when you run into your failures and yes you’re like you’re at your rock bottom yes what’s your next move because I’m always trying to reinvent myself yep and I’ll do things that work and then I’ll do things that don’t you and some of the your friends are at the table you guys have a big advantage and all of you have gone a little bit different with that transition of mine and what happened on snapchat and Instagram things that nature but you have something very special first of all you’ve talent right second of all you’ve once tasted what it’s like to buy beachfront property in Malibu no I live in apartments though aka you knew what it meant to your career by being one of the first 40 people that mattered on a platform that became fresh right yeah instead of trying to what what you and others that have by the way you know why I wish you could see the goosebumps I have right now it happened to me I won Twitter yeah and then you know I then I wasn’t at the top of stuff like I was in that two thousand six seven and eight world you know right why do you think the vine thing and this is where I’m going with this it’s you basically if you choose to it’s gonna happen again and let me explain why the reason I got you guys all together and I flew to LA and met with others of you like the reason I did that was it was black and white I’m like I’ve seen this show before right hell yeah you said that you actually said that you were like saying this is the new YouTube it just was so black in November and obviously it took different tacks and ones that kind of triples down on Instagram had what happened happened but you instead of trying to catch up to what’s now I give you the recommendation that I took myself because I tend to only give advice that I’ve actually done because it just feels better you got it you got it either hibernate make do grind through and spend all your time looking for that next one that is one that you should be downloading you you should be down at you you should be downloading a top 100 app in the Apple Store that is social or consumer facing every day of your life eating an account and producing the first piece of content okay I might do that awesome you got a better fellow uh for trot eleven freshmen here I love it a really quick question made a little personal you know we have this engine all of us in this room have this engine we can’t we have a hard time shutting off its yeah makes us successful how do you how do you balance work and family how do you do it by first and foremost not adhering to the current state of political correctness that everybody here is deployed on me most of all right and second extremism I almost took the whole entire month of August off like I go all in right I go when I’m in this like Monday through Friday I do not see my kids pretty much at all 39 weeks of the 52 weeks in a year just what it is and then on weekends and you know seven weeks eight weeks of vacation a year I’m all in the other way that’s how I do it for me but that is only uniquely gonna work if me and my partner and crime are aligned on that strategy audit that strategy every day by the way I don’t even want to do it anymore as now they’re eight and five and not five and two they’re just more interesting to be around you know so so like for example I guarantee you in twenty four more months this exact trip they’re here and we go to you know we go and see the Grand Canyon or something you know so like like you know I I’m so sad that so many people do certain things in parenting because that’s what the other parents think they should be doing like I don’t know like I just want to make a very important statement that I implore every pair in this room understands everything that is right in parenting right now by the common standards will not be in twenty years you’re gonna be judged one way or the other so thanks you got a brother Gary over here oh hey hey how are you good fellow 42 year old I think your mom and my mom should hang out bro cuz I think similar stuff a mom’s yeah she sounds amazing and then uh just want to let you know like validation on the sound totally true cuz I like literally take a shower with you every morning so thanks brother dude I just play it I got a little shower thing I listen to your audio I get it gets me going so thank you that visuals I didn’t even think about you seeing the visual but not I think about yeah that’s good enough away thank you so I got two-part question for you one is on culture so our our company has grown and now we’re we’re doing pretty well and I’m you’ve been to like nine figures and that’s where we want to go right so my first question is okay from a culture standpoint when you grow rapidly how do you embed the culture to make sure that it grows with the right people right so we built values manifestos ready yeah how do you get muscles by doing push-ups you do it consistently every day I spend an ungodly amount of my time on HR like now I have 800 employees the biggest thing I’m working on for 2018 so I have an open-door policy which is not working for me it’s real open-door like the key big thing for my two admins and assistants is when an employee asked they get booked whoever first day nine years done not working they think I’m fancy and garyvee they’re scared nobody wants to really talk to their CEO so next year I’m gonna mandate that I see every one of my employees every six months for 15 minutes which is gonna eat up big amounts of time culture is the only thing you trade on so you’re gonna see all eight hundred employees 15 minutes yes twice a year okay so literally a NICU now wanna daunting when I do the one-on-one time it always works but I’m just thinking now from scale at standpoint like how the heck scaling the unscalable is how you build long term wealth good that’s a good one thanks brother any I didn’t get up here from now we know why you get paid to stand up second my second question was okay as you grow obviously have things you get you’ve got haters right I’m sure that people don’t like you and whatever sure so I always focus on the mission and the vision and people that we’re helping right but when you get like certain people I mean still affects like me like so how do you overcome that so you can keep growing empathy for them yes and like just with their life circumstances or sure if a human being can generate hate they’re not in a good place okay so what do you do mentally and mindset to just keep going I deployed gratitude that oh not them okay God thanks man thank you hey man so I started on – all doing like yeah and now I do it on Instagram and I grew a large following on their various branches yeah and it’s still growing a lot but I want to be ahead as you saying I know I have a lot of meetings about VR yes and creating content with NVR I’m a very anti consumer VR guy in the in the timing that I like so everything for me is 24 36 months yeah right I just don’t know how many people are consuming at the scale that you would be giving up opportunity costs in other places in 36 months of ER until I see even one person consistently consuming VR like an hour a week like if I can find one human who’s not a really weird nerd who spends one hour right so I think the reason you’re feeling that is in your in the LA bubble everybody’s pumping a ton of money from venture capital into VR and it’s literally I don’t like I mean the thing you should study is what happened to the web in 99 2000 the whole you’ve probably seen a pets calm all these companies were worth or trillion that’s what I feel about VR it’s coming Amazon’s coming right eBay coming but I think for you and knowing the arbitrage that you can trade on I don’t believe like if I was talking to you every week I’d be like that’s not a good place to be spending your energy that’s my intuition yeah I do think voice is incredible and then I think for you specifically cuz I know enough from afar we don’t know each other super well but I know a lot from afar you might want to think about what you want to put that energy into what bucket that’s why it’s good that you’re here right what I do think these guys do that sales and quant like or if it’s you know a brand or an event or you’re gonna be able to push that energy towards something you need to take a step back and get thoughtful with yourself on like what other interests you have or you know that that wouldn’t come natural as the first thing you would think that like the five or six things you think of health and wellness and lifestyle it’s interesting it’s probably something subtle putting your energy into building in that world if you want to really double down on entrepreneurship is a good idea okay you’re welcome all right guys we have time for only three more questions so we’ll go miles over there and then we have two here and that’ll be it Charles get up there will do for us stand up I saw your face alright hey Gary I’m a big fan of mental models and ways that kind of overcome challenges yeah and I like understand other people’s processes so my question to you is what is your number one business challenge right now and what is your process to come up with that solution I’m crippled by opportunity is my number one business problem and it’s similar to what I gave over there I’m I’m just attacking it with blind intuition hi every time me and my team try to attack it from a quant standpoint it’s too foreign it’s moving too fast on us and so that’s it man crippled by opportunity which is a blessing and a half as you can imagine but it’s the truth you know it’s the truth like do I say yes to a second season of plan of the apps do I like do I mean the mixer for sale it’s like running through my mind you know like like there’s just a lot there’s a lot going on man I have a lot going on right but I mean other than intuition I mean I get imagine that there’s a bottleneck in terms of leverage where’s my China yeah I mean intuitions the solve for the bottleneck which is making decisions and deploying my energies against those decisions should I leaving everything else on the side very cool you know I decided a year ago I was raising 150 million dollar fund I gave all the money back I lost it was the biggest financial loss of my career because I hired the staff and I was gonna pay the staff with the 2% if you know venture of you know the overall fund that I was gonna raid out 150 million dollars on that’s a lot of money 2% I had a pretty expensive staff I was going through the process and I’d raised about 80 million dollars and one night I’m flying home and I’m like I don’t believe in this I don’t want to spend this hundred fifty million dollars on startups I think there’s too much faith in the market I don’t know where to deploy it I think I’m gonna lose it and I gave it all back right that’s intuition thought process understanding you know so I’m just doing that every day awesome thank you got it no big fan Behan but my girlfriend is an even bigger fan and I basically couldn’t live down the shame of not asking a question I love it so I’m a social media manager and I would just love to hear about what you think is the best campaign you’ve ever ran and why do you qualify it that way sour patch kids candy we made it a cultural phenomenon because we gave we took all the money from television commercials which go figure twelve to fifteen year olds don’t watch and we gave it to all the people that sit at that table or the ones that look like that we took in four and a half years ago we took Sour Patch Kids marketing budget and put into snapchat and Instagram when nobody was thinking that way and if anybody has a 9 to 17 year old in her life they eat sour patch kids awesome Thanks so we got it and super team to answer the question the reason I quantify it that way wasn’t there’s been campaigns that we’ve done that have made more money have you know gotten excuse me made more likes or awareness or more views you know he he stands up here and goes thanks to everybody we have a hundred thousand views I already know him enough to know yeah and what’s what what’s happening with those views you know a lot of people in social media they plan vanity metrics not sales the sour patch kids is the answer because we have had campaigns get more of you this Budweiser Derek Jeter and Harry kept the stuff we’re doing for Budweiser’s in saying we’ve really crushed sales we’re changing a tough brand in the US but sour patch kids became the fastest-growing candy in 20 years thank you so much over here Gary real fast oh okay noise hey Linds hi so I’m a course creator yes I also help entrepreneurs teach better so there’s these gets better results and a little bit at a crossroads I heard you talking about being in a space that’s a little over seven right and so of course creation is a little that right of course I see though the chance to make better teachers to make their products better good that’s one thing good and I think I could do really well they’re great but I’m also around the opportunity of I’m a past tenured track professor and I left academia okay and as I was leaving fellow professors were like you figured it out like go I also feel a calling to help professors kind of do what I do you should definitely do that so that scares the no no I’ve great news but this is easier like to help people entrepreneurs it’s so easy okay new Linds I know but this is back to that Kevin quite like it like you got to decide what you like by the way I have a crazy thing to tell you based on something I’ve been looking at please tell me the professors are about to become easier I know cuz they’re all about to go out of business there no it’s a thinking yes but guess what this is the thing I wrote about in crushing I said all these newspapers and magazines are in deep it’s that the writers are gonna be better not worse they think that I mean these professors are about to get the money they deserve yes and then there’s Lindsay had peatlands yeah for 36 months leave money on the table that was easy from the entrepreneurs that are never gonna make it and go help what vets move start I mean your first move is to build the business structure like what’s the business that you do do you want to be TED conferences do you want to be a course do you want to teach one on one do you want to sell a product I mean what you need to decide what I want to help them plan an exit strategy and to realize that there’s actually money that there’s a lot of professors that could probably make courses really good that’s wrong to do yeah okay so charge like charge them money for your knowledge if that’s what you want to do okay and you know you can put that in seven different buckets yeah right I’m telling you right now you’re walking right into the one of what is going to be an enormous ly large space and the fact that you were one of them do you know how much I kill with small businesses yeah not because it’s funny and haha it’s cuz I was one of them yeah thank you you’re welcome hey Gary I’m Kailyn Thank You Lee this is crazy to like literally be face-to-face to see right now saying thank you so much for answering my question um one of the reasons that I love you so much and love following you so much is I really resonate with the whole chip-on-the-shoulder thing yeah that’s that’s what drives everything that I do I grew up super poor at least standing here with all these people right now is just insanely surreal right and you want to kill them right I don’t want to kill them I want to like work with you and I just hit me up please but this thing that’s happened is I’m I feel like an entrepreneur on accident honestly okay and the thing that I love to do is is the business that I do that’s making you money but recently I’ve started being like way more vulnerable about the whole chip-on-the-shoulder thing and like and telling my story and that’s resonating with a lot of people but that’s hard like I hate doing that because I’m very introverted I don’t like being out there that much but that’s what seems to be making the biggest impact I bruise what’s binary either you do more of it and you get used to it and like everything in life once you get used to it it just becomes your norm and you didn’t realize it now you may never be the most extroverted but you just expect it everybody here can be a better singer dancer and basketball player they may not become LeBron but if you do it every day you get better you keep putting yourself out there every day you’ll get better so you can either choose to that or you could say I don’t like it I’ll leave the money on the table because I love the privacy in the private life and not having to engage and you do that it’s your choice you’re in charge are you an advocate for doing like what’s harder though I’m happy I’m an advocate I’m doing undoing what you want to do not because I said so or your friend said so it’s I’m an advocate of you doing what you want to be doing but I always encourage to taste more cuz it works anyway people here do know me people here hate oysters but I’ve never had one I think about that every day that’s I think about business like you’ve made a judgment on something yet you’ve never done it so um you know you know what I’m gonna say you know you’ve like consumed it the fat I mean I already know you’re gonna do more of it because you’ve already done the hardest part which is you’ve done it you’re now a foregone conclusion to me KP you’re just gonna keep doing it you know that’s what you’re gonna do okay you’re just looking for me to give you a little more juice to do it a little bit more and a little bit more in a little bit more which is amazing and I’m thrilled to do it cuz it’s free here you go go thank you you’re welcome just really quickly is there anything that is hard for you like I know that like no like your mindset the way that you think about things you’re like I am confident I can do this but like is question validation the first part the second part you’re asking me that as somebody who knows a lot about me because I don’t spend any time on it right we all suck it so like I don’t care how you judge mine you got to so because I don’t care about that I’m the only reason people spend time on their weaknesses is it cuz it’s everybody else’s opinion on it that they’re trying to avoid I don’t care about your opinion about my weakness cuz I know you’ve got them too so let’s just move on thank you so much can I get a photo with you and you’re done yes thank you hey Charles hey Gary if you ever I swim a lot so if I’m 37 so I’m not you know where you are at age wise but you know I’ve been lucky a few times in life and you know I’ve done well and done that so well and everything and I have done well I guess my question is you know it’s always the concept of the encore right you know when my one company you know I’ve had eight digit companies before and now I’m logic another one and I guess it’s like how do you get into it make bets on it but feel accomplished if you don’t outdo your last time because I don’t I do not even remotely think that the financial part is the way I score it mm-hmm you know what I mean I mean that’s really simple like out doing the last one is you know even the way you position listen to your words you’re positioning it like if you’re putting pressure on I need a Niner right mm-hmm then you’re then you’re probably gonna specially you know it’s funny about positioning a Niner when you’ve had an eider it’s hard to get going that’s the that’s probably the channel I know exactly what’s going on with you Charles yeah and so that’s why I’m asking you are you doing the ambition of a 9 or 10 or cuz you see the white space and you’re gonna strike like a Cobra or is it cuz you really just want to do it so let me give me an example what I’ve been doing for the last seven years I don’t love it client services like having a 32 year old brand manager from the University of Chicago telling me what she should do with Captain Crunch when she can’t sell I’m actually from the USA so great yeah so like not fun for me yeah but I know why I’m doing it I decided at 35 36 that I was gonna spend 10 years of my prime as a businessperson building a Death Star of communication by eating and building a very big business and then I was gonna point that deathstar the Vayner X machine against the Crohn’s and Colitis foundation cuz my brother has it and I want to cure it some business that somebody comes along that didn’t know how to run it so I bought it for a million and then I can get it to a hundred but I I realized six seven years ago I now know who I am let me build the biggest infrastructure in the world around it and then whether it’s to help you know hurricane victims or sell sneakers I’m gonna be able to point this thing so for me I don’t look at my ebody I don’t care how much we’re growing I’ve made a 20-year decision that I’m in the process of and I’m gonna execute against that and the numbers and dollars are just not the way I score if you’ve been lucky enough to have a success you’ve had and you’re this young I would take a on Krystal Shepard Krystal’s welcome to the show thanks so much for having me Davis I’ve been looking forward to the show for a week now and I’m finally on it I’m starstruck thank you so much well Christmas is the co-founder of campfire is an ex airline boss one of the things you’re gonna love is just kind of go through this is one of these Christmas is created is something for people as far as podcasters but also for a lot of our funnel hacking community on the ability to get paid to ask questions now we spend a lot of time really talking about the importance of questions and making sure that you’re asking the right questions that your phrasing things the right way but Christos is creating something it’s really cool I want to share with you guys it’s we’re just gonna dive right into this but Christos anything else you want to say yeah share as far as your background anything else before we dive into campfire and some this time you guys doing I’m the co-founder of campfire so I’d love to talk about campfire be great the other stuff later on as well if you like not a problem alright so what I wanna make sure you guys understand is when we’re looking at creating funnels and you’re working with your prospects and things the importance of questions is super super critical in fact obviously all the stories that we we spend a lot of time helping that people understand the parts of telling stories a lot of times those stories are going to be response to an answer for a question or that you’re actually telling that story in advance of the question trying to resolve concerns people have so the idea for most entrepreneurs is you gotta get really good at asking questions and the reason I wanted to bring Chris was honest this whole campfire app that he has you actually get paid based on the quality of the question is that correct or how does that actually work Christo’s that’s exciting correct yeah that’s that’s pretty much the point so campfire is a mobile app for iOS Android is coming soon and it is an audio based platform where you ask your own questions your burning questions to your favorite experts or celebrities or pod car Buster’s the sorts of people you can’t normally reach out to very easily and they will then answer you directly with personalized audio messages that are sent directly to your phone but the cool thing which you really highlighted Dave thank you is that if you ask really good questions popular questions questions that get other people listening in then you will get paid real money like actual dollars which you can donate if you want to you can donate some of that real money to whichever charity that you support and so we say a campfire that social media is here now finally to do some social good but I suppose that the benefit for most people really is as you say that you can actually get paid to think up and then ask really good and popular questions you’re quite right that you know telling story is very very important when it comes to you know funding business creating the opportunities for your business etc etc but the other other side of the coin of telling great stories is also asking great questions and and so hopefully Dave your audience will will love campfire it’s it’s a it’s a great place to be in the moments it’s just growing so it’s terrific very fun so when you take a look at you know who are some of the people that they could be asking questions to oh really I mean the world is your oyster we have people on there who are travel experts we have people in there who are investment professionals we have people on there who are real estate developers we have YouTube celebrities I mean there are all sorts of people each with their own specific expertise and to be honest the most some of the most interesting answers that I’ve heard so far are actually from people who go outside their areas of immediate expertise so not necessarily on topic for this podcast Dave but my favorite answer on campfire so far has been by one of those YouTube celebrities I just mentioned who rather than being her usual zany YouTube self on the app decided just to sort of take a step back for a second and answered a question around depression which is a you know something that she suffered from when she was a teenager and she was dispensing advice to somebody who was asking her about it that was a very touching response that I was just listening to this morning so it doesn’t it’s not necessarily just a platform when you speak about serious and wheatie topics you can also talk about things outside your own field of expertise you can be funny you know that there’s all sorts of stuff going on then and I use the basis is growing a quite a clip even though we’ve only been been in the App Store for the last three or four weeks so if they wanted to do some research or to get a quote from a famous person can they actually use that if they asked the question the person responds can they use that on their website on their during the funnel or in you you you are able to transcribe the audio yes I mean to be honest we wouldn’t chase after you if you just occasionally copy the audio but you know if you do it egregiously like we have terms and conditions which prevent you from doing that but absolutely you can transcribe the audio responses that you get 100% just like that make sure it’s a quote campfire when you do you know some of the main reasons I was looking at bring you on the show is I know that a lot of our entrepreneurs and our funnel hacker community yours always they’re trying to find different things ways of bringing things into their their communities and one of those things I was thinking about was the ability to actually whether it is a celebrity or someone else they can bring on either as this person so and so I was I asked this question so-and-so on here was their answer and that way they could be kind of portrayed as the as the connection for their community to whatever the celebrity might be is that something they can do with campfire oh absolutely I mean you could almost think about campfires being a place where you could have a you know a community of citizen journalists going out there eliciting stories or asking great questions to interviewees those interviewees could be celebrities that could be business people it could be politicians religious leaders whoever and then you know if you were a citizen journalist you run a blog or you run a you know a small business you can absolutely take some of that content those quotes and and distribute them to your to your followers to your audience to your you know latent basic customers whatever it happens to be certainly I think that’s fantastic I know for us here ClickFunnels™ we’re in the middle right now tomorrow’s our big day we were have our viral video launched and we’ve got over 400 now almost 450 celebrities influencers media politicians everyone else coming into finding the waste of all places to partake in this and it’s been fascinating for me at how how it’s been just almost a crazy crazy situation where it all depends on who else is there where as far as who else wants to come it’s just been it’s I feel like I’m back in crazy you guys have done so well you know with with the brand that you built and it’s true it’s so you get one you know one person to be interested and then persons 2 to 5 get interested at which point you know everybody’s interested because they see it’s like any it’s like a party right I mean once you have written guests at a party everybody wants to be there but of course if it’s just me nobody nobody visits so my reason to bringing that up is is there a way I wanna make sure I understand exactly how people can get to you know quote-unquote hire people in the pecking order as far as getting their questions answered what’s the how do they do that oh this is sorry I should have said I mean to see you download the app you create a profile and that’s it as soon as you create a campfire profile you can go and ask anybody anything that you want if you ask somebody a question they’re not on the app our team here at campfire towers is notified and so we then basically undertake to go and find that person for you and bring them onto the platform where you and other people can can then ask them questions or even answer their questions if they want to answer you too so so yeah you can ask questions to anybody there’s no restriction whatsoever on who you can or can’t ask once you’ve created a profile I love that so the next thing I want to find out is a lot of more entrepreneurs have become celebrities in their own right and because of that is this something they could then use for their audience where their audience could have more access to them without being half able to have cool quartic or direct access I think so yes I mean one of the things that I’ve heard from the early users that we have so far is that people like the ones who are talking about entrepreneurs who have created sort of their own personal brands become popular in their own right get overwhelmed by the number of emails and inquiries and tweets and DMS and all of these sorts of things that come at them from all sides and on across multiple different platforms with campfire basically you you the we our payment mechanism means that people are incentivized to ask good questions remember when I asked a quite a good question I get paid and rewarded for it and so from the perspective of the you know the expert the influencer the businessperson the celebrity now I’m getting what I hope will be higher quality questions higher quality content coming at me because the people asking me those questions actually have an incentive to ask me you know higher quality stuff when I respond as a business leader or a you know celebrity whatever I respond I can do so very easily in the form of a short audio message of course I don’t need great hair or makeup or you know too much pre prep work or anything like that I can just record an answer directly into my phone get sent directly to the person who asked me the question and of course as I said I make money by answering questions I also make money by whenever anybody listens into the answers money which I can if I want as I said donate to charities that I care about so this works I think for for influences business leaders on many different levels I can raise money for charity I can better connect with people who care about what I have to say and I can also sit much more easily through you know my what’s currently a very overcrowded inbox so how do they actually make money I mean is it does the app cost money to sign up I mean where’s the revenue coming to be paid the questions work so when you ask a question on campfire you pay money to ask so I might Dave for example pay let’s say $10 to ask you a question and the amount of money that I pay is the fee that you set so you may choose to set your fee of five dollars you may set it at $50 whatever that fears I pay it if I want to ask you a question and then I make my money back when other people listen to the answer that you send to me so I might ask you a question you aren’t say if it’s a good question and you know 100 other people also want to listen in and I can make back the money that I paid to ask you the question in the first place so that’s basically how it works and that’s where the revenue comes from very cool so what type of a revenue could a person make basically either asking questions or answering questions because did the person answering gets paid as well yes yes the person answering gets paid as well so everybody gets paid basically including the charities that the people involved support which is great now I mentioned before we’ve only been in the App Store for three or four weeks so far but we have one user around – this is an outlier but still we have one user who has made two thousand one hundred and fifty dollars so far by answering I think is something like 15 questions something like that I can’t remember the exact number but she’s done very very well indeed and it just goes to show the potential I think you know you never wants to come this was still very early stage but already people are making some actual money almost as a side hustle to their existing businesses so it’s actually also another way that some funnel hackers could actually become a celebrity is by putting their profile out there and answering questions for other people about whatever their specialty may be exactly exactly and Dave I hope you too will download the app to do that once we get through this uh let me get through this viral video launch party and not take what’s up everybody’s russell brunson welcome to marketing secrets next two episodes i’ve got some exciting things for you as you know we just got done with our viral video launch event which turned out amazing and our keynote speaker was gary vaynerchuck and in his contract he said we are not allowed to stream well nor share his presentation but they did the presentation and he messaged me after and said that was probably one of the best presentations I’ve ever given and I was like sweet man can I promote it on the podcast and he was like you know what go for it so that is what’s happening so we actually have his presentation now the first like 15-20 minutes his presentation he kind of just ramble a little bit didn’t really have I think he was trying to figure out what you want to talk about and then he switched to Q&A for next like hour and a half and Gary zucchini QA and it’s really really good so what I’m gonna do is we pulled out the Q&A and so I’m gonna to 45 minute episodes here for you but for all of you my fans and followers people who listen to me you know that I keep my podcasts nice and clean outs where curse or anything Gary does a lot so I had my brother go name is Russell Brunson and welcome to marketing success [Music] what’s up Gary Eric thanks for being here thanks mom my question is I know you you say that it’s gonna end all with robots killing everybody I hope so but until then yes what role do you think AI artificial intelligence and robots have trying are going to have in the next five years in the marketing and digital marketing space huge even in the 15 minutes that I’ve gotten a better taste of what these characters are up to they’re gonna love it like the math people are gonna love it because machine learning and AI just do that we shouldn’t be doing like it’s just efficiency it’s gonna put an enormous thing like but the good news is like there’s so much that we still can do and so basically how I think about you know ml and AI back at the pad is get me 2/3 and 1/2 base and I’ll take care of the rest and whatever AI can do for that cool and whatever low priced employees can do cool but like everybody is spending way too much money to get the third and a half base and then the magic is the last part so that’s what AI is gonna mean for everybody here there’s a lot of dump that people have assistance for or managers for that’s nonsense zero value that the biggest say I companies in the world are gonna get their nut off on hey hey it’s uh it’s really exciting to be here in this room with you and everyone here this is awesome appreciate it yeah I’m really experiences that help people save time yeah awesome I’m really interested in experiences that are time-bending and how people just lose time and I’m interested in creating the most hardcore drugs no no no so here we go the world’s most connective music festival okay all right we’re festival goers are connecting with each other like never before yep and with the artists and the artists with their fans okay and so in 2021 we are now I’m talking about on the mixed reality so 2021 good music festivals connection the best time of people’s lives what do you see happening in the context of music festivals that you’re excited about and that you’re excited about creating so if I dissect that right couple things one thing I’m super fascinated by that I would have never seen and by the way I never spent any time predicting like like voice not predicting it’s happening right what I think I’m good at is like recognizing winners when it’s practical and then going pot committed right which means you’ll lose money for a couple years and then get it you don’t lose for seven years and never get there the thing that’s been super fascinating to me that I would never thought which is social media is making people do more in real life like what only some dude is hiking right now just for the Instagram photo right so so what’s been amazing about music festivals is because everybody here now is not only themselves but they’re the PR agent of themselves for what they’re putting out people are going to more concerts than ever because of that whole dynamic I think what you’re alluding to is kind of like what’s gonna happen in society like in general like mixed reality things of that nature it’s you know it’s gonna be funny technology’s making music you know going to music grow and then it’s gonna take it away but I don’t think it’s as soon as 2021 but I think that right now a lot of music festivals are failing because they all have the same backs and it’s just supply and demand and so when you were first four or five six years ago you win and now there’s 87 micro festivals and big companies signed the same 13 artists and so I think there’s a huge white space for the next generation of that like the people that the streets with right and then and then I think that ultimately it’s gonna be really interested in just in general what happens when we lived in a mixed reality world I think the big arbitrage the only thing that’s gonna break the internet is VR but VRS quite a ways away like nobody here spends an hour on VR in a month in real life so we’re a long like it takes time behavior takes time but eventually when we’re switching between completely virtual like I don’t even see you guys right now my contact lenses have me in Afghanistan switch it off I’m right here switch it off in its AR and Santa Claus is sitting right there you know you know that world I think is super interesting and it’s gonna change all our businesses thanks man cool yep hey Shawn Gary you just came back from August and you said I’m bringing YouTube fire new shows are coming out and you took baskerviiie show to Facebook only I did so what are your latest strategies and why for both YouTube and Facebook I think you have to make content that is native to the platform you put it out on I’ve always thought about that I wrote a book called Jab Jab right hook five years ago on this I wasn’t doing that so now that askgaryvee show is on facebook watch and the dailyvee is on youtube Wendy Rock is where the rock okay you know now I could say what’s up YouTube whereas I couldn’t do that before and those little nuances matter and you know all the action is in those little edges and so I broke them up mainly because of facebook video now that there’s watch I’m fascinated any of you watch a show yet on Facebook watch just raise your hands just curious higher right so this intrigues me like everybody you’re asked to watch one not because like I don’t want I’m gonna I watched one the levar bball family because I just want to see they’re doing like to me this is the most interesting thing that I’m doing that the good market isn’t you’ve got to taste everything like if you want to win and there’s no way you’re Boise Idaho if you don’t want to win right now no I mean that like like like when I think about who’s here I’m like these people are hungry so like to me 19 hands which means maybe 31 because people get shy to two weeks into Facebook watch that haven’t watched that’s that’s that’s it that’s that’s where I play that’s my margin so that’s why I did it because I wanted to make them native I have two active shows I needed to do something on Facebook and because I watched face actually tell you it’s not fully announced yet but we’ll see how this goes because I watched watch and I watched it for four you know kind of like four days in a row looked I understood what they were doing so I sent them an email I pitched them a show and they bought it right so now I’ll have it kind of anybody can put a show on Facebook right like a page a watch page which everybody should be doing here I’ll have my youtube you know show and now I’m gonna have a produced by Facebook show that’s gonna get big thing even more listen man I talk and like do in and hustle and all this I just like I do so much more than I talk which is crazy because my mouth is always running but I’m just doing I’m doing doing doing cuz I’m tasting I’m tasting I never think I’m fancy so many people in here I know you like so many people here make it a little bit get fancy stop stop doing that got them there that’s the minute you’re dead got it hey Marshall I have a question is yeah I there’s a guy I fall in line you might have heard of him his name is Gary Vaynerchuk yes he told me to push all in on whatever it is that you’re good at yes I’m making this big push as Marshall live I’m going to everything live like straight to ask me questions I love that aspect of your brand so the question is of everything’s moving to voice is live-streaming podcasts going to be end up being bigger than say iTunes are recording that you can come back to so first of all you said something interesting that we all do if everything is moving to voice nothing moves nothing is everything like we will always have the written word you could have them do you know much by reality there is through long form written Facebook and Instagram posts like if you sit in here and you can write write long posts on Facebook and Instagram and watch the cabins we are humans we’ve been around a long time bro Marshall written word audio/video is locked in got it so it’s not like you’re gonna lose it like if you’re great at smoke signals up there you know like you know like communication doesn’t change the the pillars of communication are set where we communicate changes right and then you have to be contextual right some people are incredible at making a six-second video I keep looking at him because it’s fun to see him haven’t seen in a while others aren’t like I can’t put two consensus together in my life I have five New York Times bestselling books because I have a ghostwriter because I didn’t try to become a great writer when the blogging thing happened because I’ve been on my strengths and so I do believe that everybody here should bet on their strengths and surround themselves with their weaknesses I actually think back to earlier question I think AI then machine learning is gonna help a lot of us in here who are creative close the gap on a lot of our weaknesses which is gonna be really awesome you got it yo yep it’s Kevin yeah I think a lot of people in here using ClickFunnels™ or not have kind of Cummins a lot more money than maybe they’ve ever been used to making okay um and in one of your previous sentences you said yeah you only care about money and all of a sudden you’re 47 but then you didn’t finish your sentence I was hoping that like here you elaborate on yeah I you know for I’m sure a lot of people here real who let’s say have come into money it’s not as great as advertised for a lot of people some people love it they like watches and Lambos and house isn’t that rad like Mazel Tov you know other people don’t and you start questioning what the right because when you’re when you’ve got nothing and you’re on the come up and you’ve got numbers in your head whether it’s a million or five or three or whatever it is it’s an empty when you get there for a lot of people and so you know I’m just I’m just trying to make sure people are being thoughtful they’re just much like what I just said the marshal like life is pretty simple like people play on legacy on family on money like there’s just a couple pillars I just think in our space right now you know I know a lot of you have heard me rant on this I do think entrepreneurship has taken a turn towards club promotion like you know and like that’s just dangerous not it’s just dangerous for the people that it’s not Donald it’s it’s dangerous because people don’t realize they need to build a business not a perception that they’re good at business [Applause] because nobody’s you know when the market crashes nobody’s going to Vegas with you when you work at Bank of America you know I’m just trying to get people to be more thoughtful sure hey man how you doing I’m super well awesome so Russell and you were – last year I was selling websites was getting really frustrated yeah I wasn’t helping people felt like they weren’t growing their sales but they had a really nice site so you guys inspired me to start a podcast awesome didn’t know exactly what for but just good get those guys are doing it I will – more along the lines of us listening to a podcast in the gym host ask the other guy what would you tell your 20 year old self and the guy answered I would divorce my wife earlier I was super pissed off I’m married with two young kids and wanted to have a podcast from a different perspective and so you’re later than God two weeks ago I got to publish my interview with Russell I’ve had Dean grazi OC and so my question is number one is how do you grow even further and number two is not just for me but anybody starting or in progress what should your priorities be so let’s sit here you know both both of those things I can’t answer because you need to decide you know what firstly you have to define growing for me is growing being a top 50 podcast I mean like we all get into our micro games and by the way I think micro games are good you know a little short goals micro it’s kind of good you scratch it it’s fun for a little bit I think you got to have your macro point of view like if you were if you’re telling me the truth that you felt like the conversations were going in the wrong directions and you wanted to go a different place well the answer to your question is just do it every day until you’re dead right like that’s my plan my plan is you know hopefully it gets me to like this one little funny weird thing that I want to buy a football team but other than that my plan is to put out free that is historically correct so that people so I can continue to live the life I’m living which is I made the money I wanted to make a long time ago but getting 50 60 70 emails 80 emails a day of people like you helped me like that’s just like intoxicating but that’s what gets me off tonight and by the way I’m not sure that like you know like I understand why that wouldn’t be meaningful to somebody else like so you just have to do what you have to do for yourself right like that’s how you grow by consistency you know you grow by you’re a year in you grow when you’re 19 years into your podcast more specifically in terms of actual numbers yes taking the what you’ve done and now like specifically on the number aspect of it what do you recommend in terms of taking your platform and kind of skyrocketing numbers by underpriced attention whether that’s buying ads on Facebook and snapchat right now cuz they’re under priced if that’s working with influencers because many are still under priced whether that’s taking the high risk of trying to make a 10 to $50,000 version of what you just saw their incredible video because that one video can be your Dollar Shave Club of your brand saying yes to everything like if you want it if you’re hungry you do what I did which is four years ago when I didn’t jump into podcasting right away the first two years I just went on everyone’s and so I could have went to sleep at 11:00 p.m. or I could have went on Lois houses podcast 11:00 p.m. like that was a decision it’s just about awareness like where are the eyeballs and so just put your time and effort into that some of its free some of it costs money you got it hey Gary my first time seeing you your honesty is so beautiful and it’s just wonderful listening to appreciate if someone’s trying to like build a brand yeah you know get a podcast and get more to Facebook and all the other things to Bernal yeah what kind of some tips you have for building like a powerhouse team around you to help you accomplish all these things first it has to be practice so stay here first has to be practical so some people in here can afford people other people can’t so they either have to learn how to do it themselves by spending hours looking at YouTube videos on how to or read or finding people like we’re an incredible era right now there are so many kids 14 to 21 that want to be creators and think it’s cool to like do it for free you know so you just to test and learn everybody’s guys everybody’s overthinking just do like I don’t know post right now like literally right now as soon as you sit down like go on whatever platform has the most go on all of them be like I’m looking for a video and audio in turn and see what happens like again I always tell people watch what I do not what I say like you I know a lot of you know there’s a good amount of people I see here that follow me like randomly out of nope I can tweet it today does anybody make customizable retail floor mats I need I need I need like like you do good do you do them for free in exchange for some awareness you know some you know like like I would ask and then try somebody and be like you know like the amount of people I’ve hired when it was early in something and I didn’t know if they were good or bad I just thought it was much smarter to just do it and then figure it out if it was working and I’m like they sucked I’m just not scared to waste money or time and everybody’s petrified because you worry about what other people think about you that’s why if you’re curious that’s the answer that’s that’s the answer every like your answer so easy how do you build a team hire some people bro right but it’s like you know but you’re like but I don’t understand like people are scared to get had cuz they don’t get it okay put in a lot of time to learn the craft or bring someone in and watch what they’re doing carefully instead of like outsourcing it and falling asleep because you’re all passive income and I got a team doing stupid got it Thanks yeah hey Gary Jay my name is Jay and I run the inner changemaker podcast and I want to ask a question that goes a little deeper what you’re saying in terms of sound and you’re watching what you do sure we’ve noticed that you know you’ve launched a couple other podcasts is outside of askgaryvee and within that within my experience mean like the brown paper bags and that is kind of like the sixty-five daily so it three sixty-five and alexis skill write a briefing excuse me so I’ve been doing sub branding in my podcast yeah because I’m testing to see if there’s traction and I’ll spin them out and creates new pillars okay so I guess my real question is for content creators yes started on like one platform for example I started an interview based show right there’s kind of like yes haven’t you know Q&A show yes if you kind of have that urge to kind of branch out do it within the interview show because you have audience there yeah don’t worry that you may lose a couple people like right now as I’m sure everybody has seen for two strategic reasons out of nowhere I’m talking about a lot more than I should be about wine right I’m running it for a reason there is no question that there’s people unfollowing me cuz like yo bro I came here to get pumped up because I have no juice are you trying to sell me actual juice right like you know like so so but I don’t give up because I’m playing I’m playing up like a macro game like I don’t want to lose people from it I’m sad I don’t want to I don’t want to disrespect your attention and and know what you came for but I need to test something right and this is what I have and so I think it’s better off for you to like try it because one you may hit paydirt mmm you know one thing a lot of people don’t realize is your numbers look good but they’re disguise the fact that you’ve plateaued and you’re tired and so I think you try it within it and you take the risk of a little decline for enormous upside because you can always go back right instead of starting a whole new thing that’s gonna take energy got it got it cool appreciate it you’re welcome whatever like your hat bro thank you appreciate that my name is Prince I want a company called art of visuals we have over a million content creators in 122 countries you said something earlier about everyone 1422 wants to be a content creator I absolutely agree with that and have a tons of those people in my community the problem is with there being so many content creators now how do these content creators how do they create a business how do they make money when but you have thousands of people doing it for free I better think being better don’t yet you know it guys it’s supply and demand and then once there’s too much supply you have to be the best and just move on to the next thing like I bought all the Google AdWords of every wine term for five cents a click the day it started that was good then everybody jumped on they started becoming two and three and four dollar words and became different then I had to be better than I would be more crafty than I had a than what I started doing is the day the Wine Spectator would come out with good scores we would my dad exact wine that exact vintage that became our new arbitrage for a year or two before everybody caught up do you know what when a markets mature you’ve got to be better do you think it’s good enough just to be a content creator do you think no content creators need to also have products and other things that they’re pushing as well beside if you’re Steven Spielberg you probably could end up just being a content creator but if you’re like Sal you know maybe you’ve got to consider other revenue streams you know it’s just very basic business supply and demand prince right four years ago there are people that land grabbed they were good and they were first it’s just real estate if you were the people that bought Malibu beachfront property first you won right boys you won you made money but there’s a reason you were the first it wasn’t Malibu yet Prince and now people buy Malibu beachfront properties they’re just better so all those kids that like they’re gonna aspire to be the next this they’ve got a rude awakening they to be the next this you’ve got to be five times better its evolution when people debate these athletes versus others yet these athletes would destroy every athlete from other generations because they work out 24/7 now they have data now you know like it hurts my feelings to them my childhood they would get destroyed LeBron would step on people’s heads in the eighties like people don’t get it it’s just evolution cool thanks Gary you got it great hat thanks man I don’t really have asked for you have listened to us I mean I’ve watched your stuff a ton thanks yeah I just want to say thank you for giving me the permission to pursue my passion and and now do what I love everyday see what’s up [Applause] well Gary um I first want to say thank you to both you and Russell you two are kind of like the Jesus of marketing and branding I come off a Bordeaux Lowcountry Dominican Republic and it wasn’t for you two I wouldn’t be here so I just want to say thank you so my question right now is psych what are you doing in other languages because right now like my main language is in Spanish and I see like a blue ocean Russell is always talking about blue ocean he’s right and other languages ridiculous the blue ocean that there is marketing fitness whatever you name it the oceans blue so I want to know why are you doing cuz I’m going balls deep into so what I’ve been doing over the last six months I’ve poured an ungodly amount of money into infrastructure to transcribe all my content into a ton of languages and paid distribution in them I’m spending on going to Singapore which is my second trip to Asia in the last three months go to Manly mainland China and January going to India in February from spending an enormous amount of time and I’ll spend millions of dollars next year just on the transcription distribution of the content that I’m natively making in America in the English language so a solid amount okay I feel like influencers influence marketing language like it’s cheap in English in Spanish is pennies on the buck so it’s super creamy you know again cuz I just can’t cuz I’d miss them I haven’t see like I remember when Jerome and I I was like Jerome you need to go and figure out who the influencers are in Mexico because they’re like like even in music right now there’s so many like I’m spending a lot maybe you guys are paying attention cuz I love hip-hop I’m spending more time with these artists like I keep telling them you know like you need to go down to South America there’s so many artists there that are really popping you have the leverage cuz the brand of America I mean they’re much bigger artists than you but your America so you’re automatically bigger than them yeah I mean it’s very I totally agree well thank you you got it good luck [Applause] Gary Killa Maddox’s dad I want to thank you personally for your your impact in his life between you and Russell Brunson seriously I mean coming from a dad I there’s no way I can repay you just that the character that you’ve taught him so I thank you for that I have two-part question one you gave him some advice last time you’re with him about patience strategy talk about that a lot and I want to know is the dad you know can you expound a little bit more on that and then the I’ll wait to you answer that have one more part about that right so you know it’s super fun for some of us in the space we’re literally watching your son grow up and I mean I just saw him like dude you don’t look 14 anymore you know like you know so you’re and now he’s hanging around with all these faces so he’s gonna get into trouble right like like he’s like patience is important because you know he’s got more swag now his sneaker game is stronger like he’s going into that time of his life where dumb decisions are gonna be made because he’s making decisions to make short-term cash because he’s trying to arbitrage it for other things in his life like why do i preach patience because it’s the only thing that keeps people away from being straight that’s good thanks all right so what did your dad do you know you talked about he I didn’t have my dad in my life like luckily still my dad my I didn’t know my dad until I started working a liquor store like my dad left before I woke up and came home after I slept like as my fact it’s probably funny how I feel about you guys it’s fun to watch you know because I didn’t have that you know but well my dad did do for me ironically is because I have that kind of salesmanship and charisma I was completely fully like I would be everything I make fun of subtly I would be if it wasn’t for my dad because at 1415 I went to that liquor store and you would walk into what was called shoppers discount liquors back there I was 14 years old I look nine you’d walk in and be like do you have this product and I’m like yeah that we had because I was already full sales kid I’m like we have that product but I knew we made more money on this one I was like but this one’s better I had it it was phenomenal fourteen people like you had it like the ants my dad swore I taste I mean I don’t think I took about make it up I don’t think I said a real thing once and and so my dad took me and he taught me that my dad thinks embellishing is straight lying and he suffocated me over a three-year period that really changed the course of my life and I think a lot of my success comes from I have all the skill sets of that character but between being you know old country and really really my dad really not allowing me to be that guy so that’s what he did for me and I think that’s what you if you know as a dad you need to just keep watching him evolve and when he goes into territories that you think are historically incorrect not new ideas and doing new no tried-and-true human but dynamics that win and lose that’s how you try to guide it yeah one more if you don’t mind I’m sure a lot of these people probably have kids as well so like your dad was a powerful businessman and you you had a lot of ideas and passion as young age what did he do to not like how did he how did you guys balance that was that decision of him making you stop sell baseball cards to come work in the liquor store was that the right decision would you do that for your kids I’m only asking out of curiosity because when I hear that I’m just very curious it’s a tricky one man first of all we were too insular family were an immigrant family we didn’t know there was no internet like we didn’t know anything like like we literally just thought when you turn 14 you go work at the store we were merchants like right like you know people like that you know that cliche story just what it was I’m just I was my 14th birthday was time you know my d’s and f’s in school weren’t helping me with any compelling reason that I could get out of it so you know as far as how we did it we fought tooth and I fought for every inch I had and then I got lucky what happened was when I came from college my dad had saved up a lot of money through these years and started building a dream house for him and my mom and he took that year off that was and he was just not around and that year I took the business from three to ten million dollars in sales and that was the end of the debate awesome thank you man thanks mother hi hi my name is Sarah hi Sarah I’m really enjoying her speech so thank you um I was wondering in retrospect you’ve built a brand around yourself in your niche um is that what you would recommend looking forward or rather more of a brand around a brand I think you I think you have to do both if you’re gonna build it around yourself because what you’re alluding to is you can get pigeonholed and you live and die by the person I think a lot of people forget with me I’d built Wine Library first Gary Vee came later so it’s not like I went to Kayla brow furrow say yeah I didn’t come up the game as me and so I know how to build like like I’m seriously it’s a little bit up now I don’t think I could pull it off but I kind of want to actually you just inspired me Sarah I’m literally gonna build a twenty five million dollar business in the next three years that nobody knows is mine just to remind everybody for myself because I’m weird like that and I need it like that I built businesses now let me promise everybody in this room one thing fame is the number one arbitrage in our society fame is not snapchat ads not being the first result on Google Fame full brand awareness is the number one arbitrage so I’ve built my brand as a biz dev machine sure well I’m glad I can inspire you [Music] and it let me know if you need a goalie god I might even got a whaler sad I’m scared awesome hi Gary hey Rachel oh you have a nametag I got so excited I’m Rachel wow that was like cool for a second then it wasn’t so I’m the mom of two young daughters they’ve got a third on the way and it’s awesome being a parent is obviously quite challenging an entrepreneur you talk a lot about what you were taught through entrepreneurship through your dad’s mistakes and successes and you’ve had a lot of success as an entrepreneur so for your you’ve two kids right I do what are the three main things that you hope that they get out of life and how are you gonna instill those three principles into them the biggest reason I’m obsessed with entrepreneurship is it’s the clearest thing and most obvious thing to me that allows you to do the following which is do what you want to do today right like being like waking up and being able to do whatever you want to do is incredible so the only thing that I want for my kids like from that standpoint is the ability to do what they want to do every day now what scares me about that is they’re probably gonna have that no matter what because they’re gonna inherent extreme wealth so much so that I’ve really been having feelings I used to make fun of Warren Buffett and Bill Gates am I headed like you’re gonna donate 99% of your money until you know it’s funny you talk until you live right now I’m like I don’t want to give these kids that like because because rich kids have a huge disadvantage because when I wanted Sega Genesis in 1989 my mom is like cool go get it right you know like when I you know when I wanted to go to a Knicks game I had to sell baseball cards and sit in the you know like the top rope Carmelo’s come over my Hamptons house to play with Xander like its stop so I I don’t know what but here are the things I give a number one more than anything and I will kill them murder go to jail they have to be kind kindness is the most important number two if I ever see them even inkling even a innuendo even a subtle little joke of imposing my and my wife’s wealth on somebody else because they think they’re part of that I’ll break their neck and then number three I will not raise them in the political correct environment we live in now they know there is no such thing as fourth place trophies or participation prizes [Applause] now if they want to be nonprofit you know look they’re gonna look at daddy’s Mountain and I’m like that orally maybe do what I do you know my dad’s things seem big mine’s gonna be a hell of a lot bigger but like other people have made it bigger than me and kids have done this they’re gonna look at that and they’re gonna say that I’m going the other way I’m building schools in Afghanistan or they’ll be like and I’m gonna climb that mountain I’m gonna stick it to big mouths I don’t care I don’t need my kids to be entrepreneurs I just need them to be as lucky as like my mom I got these and that’s every immigrant got good grades in the 80s there’s a couple of people a little older here there was no entrepreneurship school good school that was it my mom spit spit in the faces of all those parents that made fun of my D’s and F’s and gave me air cover to be me and it really worked out not only for me but the world became it right if my kids want to paint in tomato sauce I will back them to the Earth’s end as long as that’s really why they’re doing it not because they’re doing something to like run away from so there’s of that nature so just blind support as long as they’re kind and the last thing I wanted to say is I’m gonna buy the Minnesota Vikings so I’ll see you Super Bowl the owners club no no Super Bowl jets Vikings 2047 I’ll see you there [Applause] again my question is about time time so you’re an angel investor in a hundred companies you have books in an 800 person agency and a family and there’s it’s unreal to watch how much content you’re putting out how do you choose between the thousands of startup pitches you’re getting and the which which interview to do or which speaking about to see it’s just there’s so much 100% blind belief in my intuition you know this in you and brain you got everyone’s hustling right like eventually you lose right like eventually time you don’t have enough time to do all the opportunity so you’re crippled by opportunity you just have to go that route otherwise you’re just gonna spend all your time thinking about the process of making the best decision and you know and you’re gonna waste being able to do four things which would have included the two things you’ve been debating for the last day so just the belief in my intuition and then and then lots of making fun of yourself this one’s a perfect example I have to I’m like I talk about time my son has a birthday now cuz he’s an August birthday I didn’t realize it was like this Saturday like and I think it actually came after we booked this but like like all the money and from this talk is going into the I was originally gonna go to Seattle now I have to take a private plane not to miss the play like I just did up and the whole day I’m just complaining around like I’m an idiot so like you’re not always gonna make it right like you’re always gonna like play micro-macro but I think everybody’s saying no everybody sing notice cuz they think they’re being thoughtful or they’re smart like you know many people are saying no that aren’t even fancy enough to say yes yet so I just say yes man a lot thank you yeah hey hello hello great to meet you great to meet you too the two-part name Frank J love it how are you Frank J very good thank you brother and I want to appreciate you and your dedication your consistency and your communication we own a company called International tribe design where we bring a style communication which is very simple but yet rare in this society which is honesty and authenticity and I feel like you embody this and I feel like a lot of us entrepreneurs well at least for me it was like shall I present myself strategically or authentically yeah and what I want to ask you is the first by the question what do you think sells more or influence more people authentic honesty or strategic marketing NIR and linguistic programming communication I think in the short term it’s a real battle hmm I think either could win I think in the 30 year macro the radical candor authentic way always wins mm-hmm what do you know what I mean yeah and the thing with people is a lot of people can win on strategic you’re being very politically correct like a lot of people can win on both play it out for four years get out of the game with their chips and win not a lot of people can though but then once you know of one of those examples it sounds exciting cuz it’s a lot easier mm-hmm what do you think the future is for collaboration first competition so what we’re all about is collaboration let’s bring us all together I think we can all do great things I think I think both will work right the competition matters right like I want to destroy wheeler hat I want to kill kill Vikings girl like you know like like competition matters right like I’m not gonna like like xeni miss all out but I’ll tell you like in real life Drogo five let’s just put it even in black and white Drogo five David droga phenomenal businessman has an incredible agency he’s gonna get his let me tell you one thing that a lot of you are making mistakes cuz you’re saying behind people’s backs you can’t stop winners from winning winners win so something I don’t remember when it became obvious to me but it’s unbelievable if I see a winner I’m like she’s a winner it’s binary even if she’s taking David droga winning in my world alongside vaynermedia right I’m pumped I’m happy for him because if you’re also a winner you’re gonna always eat when win a lot of people see somebody as a winner and they’re not there yet or they feel like they’re taking away from them and they’re talking and really all that’s doing is exposing where you’re at like it’s unbelievable well you know I hang out with a lot of people you know like people start yapping a little like I’m like winners win right and so unless you’re doing something really not Noble or things of that nature winners win and so I think that I collaborate with other winners who take from me complex and you know vice and these are win they’re gonna win ya not you’re not gonna stop a winner and so keep that in mind I think that’s something that does hold back this competitive driven hungry demo more than you might realize Envy is stupid it’s just not practical it just I just don’t spend any time or like why I don’t know awesome yeah for sure hey Rob Gary great to be here with you man seriously a lot it’s been about three years since I’ve been I you came across my facebook feed you were talking to some millennial kid you just owned him and you just had me hooked from that moment but yeah a couple things so you told I apologize I’m I’m really anti the downplay of like millennial kids like and I don’t think that’s what you’re doing but I just figured I’d put it on film like like I’m 42 there was plenty of lazy losers entitled was when I was 22 to like this notion that gladioli Millennials are first and foremost dramatically better human beings than any other generation it’s actually not even close and you can’t be mad at them the market this has nothing to do with Millennials and over parenting this has to do with economics the last nine years have been phenomenal we haven’t had a crash how many people here are under 29 raise your hand you’ve never tasted the game when it was hard you’ve never been punched directly in the mouth yet you don’t wake up like I did in April 2000 and the market collapse on every invoice and every order is over you don’t know what it feels like when the corporations that want to give you $10,000 for a selfie don’t spend money anymore it’s a little harder to be an influencer when there’s no cash in the system so I’m not mad at Millennials I’m mad at people’s not understanding of why you know they’re awesome human beings cuz they’re far more well-rounded and they just had a good and that’s not their fault we could have had that I got into the world in New Jersey mm cut on 9/11 got hit on 2007 got done so I’ve tasted that so just keep that in mind and by the way the reason I told that story is please keep in mind that the economy has been phenomenal for the last nine years like a lot of the good is coming for you because of what’s happening at a macro level you’re just average I’m being serious and I’m not saying that to razz I’m saying that to make you reflect so that you can step up your game so that when the ravage comes you don’t die so goodnight you got a little zing that your average but now you can actually stay alive and not go work and go back to business school sorry bro didn’t know that was gonna take you down that course but so you talk about how companies are kind of behind the eight-ball on on the whole social media Facebook marketing it’s how it’s it’s a good value right now do you see are you starting to see that trend diminish and and then when you see no that being not a value Facebook as soon as math against and art combined to not be valuable like on television meanwhile Super Bowl is the best that anybody here it’s got 20 million thrown around run a super wad this year the problem is they’re seven it’s only seven for the ad which is phenomenal but the network makes you buy some other so where it gets up but Super Bowl is an incredible value I don’t know I’m stunned that these big companies that I work with still question its ROI and want to run commercials and billboards it’s it’s so fun to watch them all go out of business over the next twenty years they deserve it I can’t wait seriously last thing is you mentioned political correctness and your kids which is awesome and I think that’s what everyone loves about you is you just say what’s on your mind and I think we can all take a page out of that book of just being sure honest you know with this crazy climate of you know the whole you know the Google guy that that got you know fired from there the whole ESPN thing like how do you how do you see this political correctness and what do you do to to mitigate that in your company so it’s a really good question Rob and it’s a really tough one couple things number one said something the other day that finally articulated how I feel about all of it which is I said to friend like people so there’s only one place in my life where I’m not logical or practical American football right like against all data I think that you know the Patriots are cheaters and and Bill Belichick’s a terrible guy and even though Tom Brady’s like clearly and I’d like to literally spent money on investigative journalism he’s the nicest human being ever I still say things like yeah he left his pregnant wife for Gisele he’s a piece like I will do anything blindly I Chemical like even talking right now the chemicals in my body are different I feel it I hate them so much I I really I really want Bill Belichick to die like I don’t even I don’t you you know it’s funny I wonder if people think like I’m going for sleep I want it so cool we’ve established that right I’m clearly irrational over emotional not logical and just the worst version of myself in that one narrow place if you I mean there are people who are fans of me who’ve DME or have tweeted that I’m a bad I mean I yell at children I’m a games I’m I’m not joking you know how people get beer muscles you know that term you drink and you want to fight I have sports muscles like I go to a game and even though everybody would probably be able to beat me up I want to fight you because it feels better than feeling the pain of your team beating mine right like a week ago I realized holy that’s how blindly everybody is now about politics you’re either red or blue and you deploy no logic no rationale you are blindly emotional you’ve no idea what you’re talking about and that’s it you we’re about to turn every issue into applet how the is climate a political like what are we doing here so I have a huge office in New York in LA 84% of my employees are liberals 84 right so I have liberal points of view all day long the thought of hating anybody or disliking another human being for any reason other than maybe being a patriot is insane to me insane to me insane to me but I have clearly you know Republican put like an eighth place trophy is why China is gonna on us with such a big dump that we’ll never be able to breathe again how I handle it is by one by one one by one it’s very hot you Evan Michael with me Evan welcome to the show hey thanks so much I appreciate it always happy to do stuff like this and what an honor to be here with you today thank you thank you thank you this is honestly I’ve gotten chills just this would be kind of doing some little pre talk here before yeah it’s we’re gonna be all over the board so I hope you guys are taking notes if you’re driving that just I don’t know what you’re gonna do but this is gonna be a lot of fun primarily because Evans bit of guy’s been around for a long time 2004’s time when he got started on this whole thing but the part I love is and where I really got introduced to Evan was he made a Facebook post in our group recently about this whole ideas far as being one one funnel away and I just love basically seeing it was really a cool post I backed up probably I’ll try to get the post and put the show notes because you had these little pic little circles as far as kind of the size of your business growing over the years if you don’t mind I take a few minutes guy talked a little bit about that transition as far as from 2004 to now what’s happened yeah sure tell you all about thanks again so much so alright let me just start with the very beginning which is an interesting little side note here which is you hear so many people talk about you know they want to sort of business they want to go full-time they want to do it I was like never that guy I worked two jobs all the time like I just could never risk like everything you know some of it and some people say like well if you’re not 100% committed you don’t do it right away you know you’re not committed no one’s gonna take you seriously but that wasn’t me I said forget it I can run two jobs like how hard is it I’ve got 24 hours in the day I didn’t sleep very much but it was fine so I started in 2004 and I started the software company for creative professionals designers photographers etc I did it online did it part-time so up until about 2010 that’s really what I did and it just grew and grew and grew which is great so what got me the post and what you’re talking about is in 2010 I came up with this idea for one of the products for this for this software company and it was really an education based software and it actually an education based program online and that was subscription product but going back just for a second when I start in 2004 again I didn’t take this thing full-time until 2010 so again anybody’s listing out there you know maybe there’s new to this I know you’ve got a valuable audience here that knows a lot about this stuff but you know obviously they gotta say hey look if you’re not ready to take this thing full-time just work 24 hours a day you will you will grow take the time I think one of the best things about all this and what really drew us together today was the diagram I put out which went from this product that we took in 2010 from 8,000 to 28,000 40,000 etc and then all of a sudden grew up into you know hundreds of thousands of dollars the thing I put at the bottom of the diagram was you’re just one funnel away even if it takes seven years so the key to this really is like a lot of people want to do this overnight they want to become millionaires overnight they watch all this stuff on on the Internet I think that’s all great if you can do it overnight believe me more power to you I would love it but I think it doesn’t hurt to say something like look if I told you today that in that you could start building a funnel and working on it tweaking it iterating it working on everyday items and I don’t care if you’re working at Starbucks on the side I don’t care if you’re working you know another job full-time if you’re a teacher if you’re somebody else but then you I tell you to just build that funnel start today and in seven years from now you’ll be making a million dollars on that funnel now it may take you six years to even get to a hundred thousand but wouldn’t you do it I mean I think that’s really the whole point of the post and it was like you don’t have to do it overnight my point is put the work out there you know one thing we always hear about is implementing and one thing you know we talked about yeah we’re all over the earth today but one thing I was talked about with marketing is a lot of people get stuck in like that that that researching phase of marking they’re always learning research not doing we take so much time to do stuff it’s like if you can implement and get out there and start building that funnel like the more and more you do even when those funnels aren’t working as well as you want it’s like just keep working at it every every day you know wake up in the morning if you’re excited about it’s like I don’t care like yeah like well today started out kind of slow and then I looked at my funnel again and it built up but like in the morning today I was like this funnel is like not working as I wanted it to and then it took off but it was like in my head I’m thinking what can I do what can I do what can I do I want to go for I want to make this better like that’s the whole point so anyway my point is implement don’t sit back do it because what do you care if you’re a millionaire today or a millionaire in three years or million ten years right like it’s all of its fine and like you know you can always make money go like I always said to my wife it’s like I don’t care what I do I can always go get a job at Starbucks and work online at the same time now luckily knock on wood you know I haven’t had to do that but it’s you know it’s I’m not I’m not embarrassed by it’s like I just want to do the best I can like there’s no rules here you know what I mean so you want to talk no I’m not yeah I just want to see what are the things yeah I get people oh my gosh people are always give me tons of crap about that fact man you got so much energy always bounce around I could tell you there is something that is contagious about energy and I love love your energy because it was one things you and I were talking about before stars x-1 things to draw drew you to Russell because it’s Manny’s talk so much he’s got all this energy going go go go go go I think people have to understand there is so much to having that type of an energy and it is what allows you literally to go if it takes you seven years it takes you seven years but takes you three it takes you fears it doesn’t matter because you have that type of energy that drives you and motivates you and keeps pushing you forward so I again those you guys are listening realize how exciting this business is it is such an awesome awesome experience I’ve actually before we got on the call here I’m playing with LEGOs right now we uh I wish I could show you I’ve got these huge Legos because we’re the process of putting together a cookbook we’re gonna be doing this tonight and and Russell’s gonna be doing this kind of stuff but the reason I mentioned that is there is so much fun in business it’s one of things I just love and I’d love your passion your excitement especially considering you were in a really small niche and I do want to kind of talk about because one think you and I were just discussing is you actually are using a webinar type of funnel and you’re using this webinar funnel and the webinar funnel accidents what you’re using to help to build a continuity based type of income which most people when they’re looking at a webinar funnel it’s you know what this is a high ticket price item you know minimum of 497 typically it’s a 997 29.97 I’m looking for the kill I’m trying to make a lot of money on this thing and I really want to kind of talk about what you’re doing on a much smaller scale but we say smaller steel again at the same time it’s a million dollar a year business so right right and talk about how what you’re using a webinar using a webinar funnel to create this yeah definitely an answer that of course I’m gonna jump around bites wanna say one thing about it which is again this is only one of our products I just want to be really clear to everybody which is it’s always about everything not one thing so I think you should all have a funnel like this but let me be really clear about funnels which I really love about it and again until I started hearing Russell talk about funnels I didn’t really understand what it was but I think when you understand about funnels as funnels there doesn’t have to be one funnel your business alone see Russell talked about having you know multiple funnels for multiple businesses I’m sure it talks about a lot of things that’s just one thing yes you can have that I have funnels for other things my own personal brand I got things for my facebook group you know just a hobby thing those are all funnels too but in your company you can have multiple funnels you have you know funnels going this way funnels going that way etc and so what I really want to say about funnels real quick is like you know don’t let them limit you all the funnel is is just how you want to direct those particular users you know so it’s just funneling people like moving them through the path you want to take them so the reason I mentioned that is because I don’t just have you know I I don’t just have one funnel working at this time so if you are doing Facebook advertising which I do you know spent thousands Day on Facebook you know marketing the company if you’re not if you don’t have an email list to back that up if you don’t have a Facebook page to back that up if you don’t have a webinars back that if you have a good price back coupling you have to have everything so one thing I one thing I really do work on all day is everything I don’t get stuck in one thing I see major major major companies doing this that that lose sight of everything is all they do is branding they don’t do everything else so anyway my point is have everything so yes with this one products I get to it this webinar funnel which is really amazing and I think what’s the key to this is that of course I built the funnel the beginning in 2010 but I didn’t figure this funnel out for you know six seven years and so that’s a huge factor here it’s like that funnel took me a really long time to perfect now didn’t even were making money but let me tell you what we did so long story short is that the funnel is an education type subscription product online you learn you watch webinars so I’m using a webinar to sell a webinar product okay so that’s that’s that makes sense it’s kind of like it’s sort of the same thing it doesn’t mean you can’t sell products but again like you said one of the biggest keys here is it’s not a high ticket item this product is 97 dollars a year that’s all it is 97 dollars here and these people get access this education that updates throughout the year etc we have feature presenters and different things like that so it’s really cool we pay them and stuff with you know the profits whatever my point is but it’s obviously much more profitable you get more subscribers so my point is is that this is a small ticket item so what what I did is I put it out there originally they begin 2010 send it out to all my email subscribers hey we’re building this in an education site you want to be part of it great you like really by 2011 we were probably doing like 28 it never really got over like $48,000 a year so oh but the price point was $36 when I first started cuz I didn’t have any content that was the case so I’m building education you know it’s like a bilious education course in this life but there’s not much there it sort of like an education like a TED Talks of our own kind of like you know you’re helping creative professionals things like that so anyway really we had like you know we were doing like 25,000 per day and it just wasn’t taking off I was trying everything you know I was sending out emails and people that and then people would drop out of the subscription for $36 at $36 a so this is just the point of this is it was a constant work it was a constant effort tweaking figuring out working working working and coming up with new ideas it wasn’t just the probably the product had to improve as well wasn’t just the marketing the product improved the marketing proved the idea is improved the price point improved you know it’s like I hear people say like oh I’m trying like I read something online say and somebody said they are trying to justify in their head asking people to spend nine ninety seven or thousand dollars for their course I’m thinking myself don’t justified in your head justify it with the product if your product isn’t worth nine ninety seven don’t ask people to buy but you should like been given the product worth ninety seven dollars like uh you know or really under sell it but like if you want to make the money I think like with this particular funnel it’s 97 dollars a year it’s it’s purposely low cost but that’s because it’s a recurring product if I can make really clear this product is a recurring fee product so every year it’s only $97 you these people get renewed but here’s the key to it so by the time this year rolled around it was like earlier this year I think we did I mean I think we probably making 24 35 depending on how much it was but it really started to take off this year it’s like that funnel came together so what it was was the basically its Facebook Ads along with meal mix with email and and and you know retargeting there but it’s the Facebook ad leads into one of the best training and webinars that we did we just give that away for free so what’s what’s key there is that like yes it just doesn’t waste people’s time it’s like here’s the ad if you watch this you’re gonna love us like you’re gonna trust us and it goes into an amazing webinar that is free probably the best sessions we do and then that gets them to sign up for $97 pretty year and then that has exploded and then so the product got better the ad got better and the end the pitch got better I mean it really did all those things came together so when this took off so now you got to think it’s like now I’ll start getting 1015 signups a day well we’re at $97 okay so let’s say you know it’s $97 ten signups a day thirty six fifty people a year you multiply that pi times three years now I’ve got a million dollar product right so we’re on our way to that that’s how it’s growing so my point of that is like okay so your great point was in the beginning was okay this is a small ticket item here’s the thing there are days where I’ll spend $10,000 on Facebook and I get $10,000 back right so what is that side what am i doing so it’s a hundred hundred clients right a hundred subscribers so I make zero dollars right besides it’s funny I’ll go in I’ll go talk my wife and say oh yeah I spent like thirty thousand dollars over the weekend like oh yeah how much did you make like oh nothing we didn’t make any money you know it’s like no money in that here’s the thing I know with a subscription product next year I’m gonna make 10 grand now let’s say there’s a seventy-five percent retention rate but that’s part of the funnel too but let me just say let’s just say there’s a seventy-five percent retention rate I know next year if I spent ten thousand dollars this weekend to make those to those customers and I make all my money back I make no money so that’s why you have to everything right this one product in place now your other products are making you money while this one makes you nothing this year but next year I’ll be on a weekend vacation in Colorado and I’ll make seventy five hundred dollars for the company just doing nothing right I mean that’s the that’s the key to the subscription business so if I can go all the way back I want to be in the subscription because all our other products were like single one-off products I had to keep creating products I want to have a subscription product and ask what we’re doing so that’s what this final is going that’s what led me to this that’s what let me do that post because it was like guys you don’t have to do this overnight take your time build that don’t give up do everything above the over the Sun under the Sun etc what’s the expression but once one of these funnels your one from away once one of those funnels takes off it’s like boom it can change your whole company and like you said this might just be our main product moving forward after a year or two like knows this might be one to three million dollar profit it’s like you know what that’s what we’re doing you know and that and that’ll be fine you know it’s it is everything and that’s the thing I think people just they misunderstand that take for example we’ve got I mean gosh you just went through exactly how we built ClickFunnels™ I mean we have we built it basically through a webinar platform and yes we gave a lot of way freed all that kind of stuff but the crazy part for us is I take a look at all the different front ends that come into to ClickFunnels™ and you know I meet with these growth equity guys in the private equity guys who are always fast as far as you know a SAS company like ours it’s not a common that a person would spend anywhere from 120 to about 140 hundred 45 bucks just to get a free trial that’s why they have to go out and have to raise all this crazy you know write the dollars just so they can do what you’re doing where you’re basically just trying to break even on your ad spend right yeah right for us you know we were talking about you know the fact you love Russell’s books you know expert secrets.com secret saw like I stuff all those are front ends and we sit down we talk these guys and like they don’t understand we’re actually acquiring a customer for free so our cost acquire customer role we actually make some money on it because we typically make on our front ends it’s not a common where you know we can spend up to about 30 to 35 dollars to acquire customer for a book product or something like that but the part that I love is the fact that this is kind of your your back-end to a lot of your other products and at least for us is that we found and I’d love to get your opinion on it but is that what we found is a person once they buy once they become a customer they buy anything it is sure tell them something else yeah if I go for the best part about this is the funnel doesn’t you know as I mentioned before the funnel doesn’t stop so now here’s what’s really cool now I spent 10,000 to make 10,000 okay but now I’ve got the customer like you said and guess what they love me because they love the product were selling so don’t forget the product has to be amazing you know sometimes people say what converts the best a red button or a blue button I’m like the best product converts the best like you have to that’s what converts like like you know it’s like I always like take notes on my stuff it’s like if here’s here’s what converts the best yeah I have a list you know see if I can find I here’s what converts bets it’s not colors not websites if it’s the best products the best offers and the best experience end of story you know it’s like nothing else really matters so anyway if I go back to it yes so here’s the coolest thing so now I have these people in the funnel yes I do sell them other products I’ll be honest though I kind of like don’t go crazy with them like I kind of let them enjoy the experience of the subscription and like just keep feeding them tons of value in the education part so it’s like I’ll sit but here’s the thing I’ll send them emails all the time and I’ll say like hey here’s a new webinar here’s any education piece and the email says this is why you’re a premium subscriber this is the benefit this time Lila always reminding them so they don’t lose sight that in a year you know it’s like oh wait I got all that benefit out of it so I don’t sell them too hard but here’s what we did do and this is really exciting this is really cool which is we when we bring out a new product let’s say I had like this new product was $75 so we did a big you know promotion on that product look you know design product and then we offered it to anybody who’s a premiums you know subscriber to the to the education part we offers them for $24 now this is digital products we make $24 it’s fine if we saw a hundred etc you can make 2,400 ollars etc in a weekend or whatever but my point of that is is like that not only gave them a huge discount of the product right it’s $24 instead of 74 it made them happy so they’re gonna want to recur and come back and and keep buying and in fact it’s almost like they’re getting these products for free and if I could say one last thing about it which is I’m probably not charging enough for the subscription but I almost just I just don’t care I just don’t get hung up on those things now being a small company that doesn’t take funding it’s really easy to not care about every dollar I think if you’re in like this big company is you knows a lot of red tape and these people have your head yeah of course you have to account for all these things I see a lot of people doing Facebook and they’re worried about every little penny and for me it’s like I don’t I I just see the bigger picture it’s like if I make $100 today 200 hours say 10,000 a or 11,000 a it’s just doesn’t change much I just like I just go for it all the times as long as things are moving the wheels are spinning people are coming in people are buying saying I don’t get greedy and I just I just want it to all be up there so like if I give away you know $75 product maybe I could have sold them for 50 but like I don’t know I just like it’s not important to me and maybe that’s a little bit of an easy place to because I do you know we have had success but I never worried about that to be honest II I just never worried about like the money of it I mean yes you want to be profitable but like I never nickel and dime this whole thing and I have like my own like I know I don’t get too off topic you but have my own theory about like a value of a dollar and it’s like at what point in your life does each dollar each penny not make a difference like if you are still collecting pennies and change and like I don’t know what you’re doing it like it’s like you will never go broke over not collecting the change back from somebody or not throwing it at a charity bin or like or counting your change but I made like $20 I don’t even know like how $20 would change your life like if you’re at that point like you need to get a job like at Starbucks and then just come back like there’s a point in your life where you can surely like $10 Azamat are $11 in I like 100 hours men a thousand dollars like this $10,000 really matters that gonna change your life sure I’m not saying it does I’m just saying like but a thousand dollars maybe like you know my thousand dollars maybe like somebody else is a hundred or my thousand maybe like somebody else is ten thousand so I’m point is like don’t nickel and dime this stuff it’s like you know think big it’s like don’t be penny wise in dollar foolish that’s something my father used to always say to me you know and I just live by that it’s like I just you know I don’t count my pennies I just I look for the bigger picture and I think that really helps like with the whole process of advertising and building a company if you’re so stuck on every little penny like forget you’re not gonna grow you know that’s my opinion obviously I totally agree it’s you know that’s been one of the funnest things is I’ve I’ve worked with Russell now for over ten years and I’ve seen different parts of this companies you know come up and it’s come down anything else that’s what are they I’ve always seen with Russell is the fact that that is never spending money has never been an issue and I think I learned it a long time ago that is it’s very very hard to ask to sell other people if you’re not willing to buy and I’m one of these it’s fascinating to me as far as get all these people who want to sell people stuff it but they will not they will not open their wallet to buy a single thing I’m like it’s just not congruent it’s just I don’t know I least to me it’s not up maybe you’ve got to be a buyer to also be a really good seller and the better you are at buying stuff the better you’re gonna be at selling stuff i I just that’s my own personal feeling on it totally and if I could just go way off topic but half it is like you know what it really is this customer support – it’s like it’s like it’s like serving people and like the more you gets an amazing thing I don’t believe in like magic and I was kind of stuff but there’s something about giving and helping other people that like changes the paradigm like it really doesn’t and that comes with spending money that comes with giving it’s like if you can give somebody a product for less money if you can help somebody on a Facebook post if you can talk to people like this if you know I hope I can prevent value present value it like you know in the back of my head I’m always thinking am i helping people right now I don’t know it’s like but that does change the paradigm like it’s not that you get more return but like it opens you up so the more you can help but even doing podcast like this anything it’s like the more you can give like the world changes when you give it’s amazing so anyway that just total side note but it does it really does work that way and if you if you don’t understand that start giving today and see how that works you’re gonna be amazed oh my gosh we can have a podcast just on that because I told we totally agree on that one for sure yeah well I want to dive into one more thing here before we let you go in there um the idea that you talked about as far as spending money to build a hobby page on Facebook oh yeah we buy that and I because you you learn by doing that concept so if you don’t like kind of dive in and let’s spend just a few minutes kind of talking about the ideas Farr is using the Hobby Facebook hobby group page to learn you cut your chief basic as far as learning Facebook Ads yeah first of all I never shy away from a project even if it doesn’t make me money I think that like you never know we’re like something’s gonna turn so it’s like this might be a little hobby project of mine but like who knows in again 2 3 4 or 5 years I’ve got 50,000 people in a group and all of a sudden I can monetize it in some way it’s certainly not what I’m trying to do but like you just never know where the world’s gonna take you you know you never know what’s gonna be hot what’s gonna work what new Facebook thing they’re gonna invent and so my feeling is like don’t be afraid to jump into things you know I have so many things going on all the time but like that’s just one thing I don’t you want me to tell everybody what it’s about or is that like embarrassing tell everybody it’s really awesome but anyway it’s a total passion project so thing I just love my life you don’t get it I totally understand if you do get it you’ll love it but you know since I was a kid I always loved like professional wrestling and you know Hulk Hogan all you know all the stuff like I don’t really a called Hogan anymore Jim I’m saying like Randy Savage all these guys we all kind of grew up with in the 80s and whatnot and so I don’t know I just always loved it it’s a great sort of like mindless entertainment for me though it’s become quite a complex amazing business at this point and if I get to say one thing about you know WWE pro wrestling is if you want to learn social media marketing they’re the biggest in the world right now I mean there’s unbelievable bigger than NBA B than any other sport company and so if you watch what they do but anyway I created a group I don’t a shameless ly plug it unless there’s any like wrestling fans out there but I could wear my t-shirt for it it’s called smarting out if you’re if you’re a wrestling fan you understand what it means to be a smart and so it’s called smarting out and join the Facebook group is a lot of fun my point is like you know I really did I thought like if I’m gonna really work with ads I’m gonna teach people how to work with ads mom gonna teach myself how to work with ads you know if I’m gonna understand Facebook more it’s like so many people I see I’m in my 40s but so many people I see that are my age and young and older you know they see this new technology come out Twitter something that like oh I’m never touching that or yeah it’s tits to it I’m not gonna do it her Facebook is a stupid guy when I hear somebody say Facebook is stupid I’m like go just just try it like you have like snapchat all this stuff it’s AI just try out something that it’s not that used all the time it’s like I have to try but then you start to see what what is amazing about these things if they work so like Facebook is amazing groups are amazing they say they hands down our amazing and the more I’m in groups the more I manage this group now we have got like four or five admins but the more I you know manage this marking out group the more I realize like how amazing an online group can be it is like managing a club in your local town it’s just online that’s the way where the world is going I mean the kids today are not gonna understand the difference in a virtual world in like a real world so like when you have a conversation online it’s a virtual conversation but like I mean even right now what we’re doing is sort of a virtual conversation you’re not in my room but you can hear me we can talk my point is you know that’s what Facebook coops are like it really is this real I think so I started kind of advertising it’s a little tricky to advertise your Facebook group and promoted I did start with a Facebook fan page I don’t feed to that but the fan page feeds to the group and then we kind of like that kind of helps because it singles out what’s interesting is it’s a fan it’s a group page not for a business or a product it’s strictly just made up out of thin air but look we’ve already got forty six hundred members but here’s what I want to say about it which is it’s a lot of work so like I could probably of it like 10,000 12,000 members mine I started earlier this year but I’m telling you right now like it is like a full-time job because like I said it’s like it is like managing a small club and there’s you know and then you’re dealing with like professional wrestling fans I mean feel fights and all this have you have to like manage and we have like a very strict no like trolling rule and I know you can’t attack people personally and we deal with all the time but anyway you know I don’t if I answered your question it’s a lot of fun I think there’s like a few strategies to grow Facebook groups right now as far as I know you can’t advertise directly to the group but there are a lot of ways around it I’m not sure how legitimate they are but just saying you could go on to Facebook groups and find out like I mean kind of do some workarounds with Facebook one of the easiest ways to do just go to a website that promotes the group or just you know advertise to a fan page that promotes the group and you get people in that way so anyway any other questions about the group you groups a lot of fun it’s amazing I think groups are a huge part of Facebook right now absolutely huge I recommend everybody start joining groups it’s amazing I love it I think the key to it as I take a look at the kind of stuff you’re doing is the fact that as you mentioned earlier that is you have to do everything and I know that people go I just don’t have time to do everything I think that part of what the fun of it is it is you get real good at one thing but then don’t be afraid to go and do the next thing as well and and I love the idea as far as understanding funnel stacking is a totally I mean it’s what we live and die by over here Clint funnels and that is the energy as far as you get one foot as you made mention earlier Evan it’s one funnel leads down to another funnel leads on to another funnel and even your even to Facebook group it so I wanted to kind of make mention of it that Facebook group as you said you don’t know where that’s gonna take you right but at the same time as you’re one you’re perfecting your skills as far as running the group you’re understanding how to drive Facebook you’re doing all that kind stuff but at the same time you have the ability to communicate with a group in a totally different way than you’re normally communicate with people on another another group whatever it might be and I think there’s just such a skill to that I know I’m storytelling again you and I could go on and on about storytelling cuz you’re an amazing storyteller I think that’s one of those things though honestly Evan is I just hope people I mean honestly you and I could carry this podcast on for hours and they would be entertained but I want to be respectful your time and a same time I I really want to make sure that people understand you guys who listen to this podcast understand that you are truly one funnel away and what I mean by that is look at Evans story and then see how can your story fit into that I love which made mention earlier Evan and that is you know if it if you knew in seven years you’re gonna have a million dollar business would you start now and I just I hope people that you guys listen this one that’s been they’re entertaining because you can’t talk to Evan and should have a group you know online video game chatting we should have group you know this and that we should cribs and so before you know it it’s like maybe in five years from now I’m hosting like a convention for all these guys bringing in old wrestlers and having them interviewed and all those kind of stuff and I’m making you know I’m doing $100,000 $20,000 of en’t right so it’s a hobby but it’s like you just never know how things are gonna go so I just want to back up your point which is like I could see myself in five years hosting this incredible convention for these guys you know smart King out convention it’s like you know again I’m not making any money on a right now but let’s let it grow you know it’s like who knows what’s gonna happen in the future so anyway just want what’s up everybody this is Russell and welcome you guys to marketing secrets I’m finally giving you a chance here behind the scenes what happens a viral video launch the bubble soccer party everything is happening on today’s episode of marketing secrets so the big question is this power entrepreneurs like us who didn’t cheat and take on venture capital we’re spending money from our own pockets probably mark it in a way that lets us get our products and our services and the things that we believe in out to the world and yet still remain profitable that is the question in this podcast we’ll give you the answers and welcome to marketing secrets alright everybody welcome back hope you guys have been doing amazing this whole week of it in inner circle meetings so I’ve been dropping some cool stuff in the podcast hope you’ve been enjoying it if you’re watching the audio version listening to audio version I gave you guys a really cool call Frank Kern which was awesome since you part of my presentation but I went from zero to hundred million dollars without taking on any outside capital which was cool hopefully like that and and now I finally have a chance to tell you guys behind the scenes so it’s been it’s been a fun week afterwards you know and whenever somebody’s happens we have no idea what to expect what you mean it’s like what happens we’ve launched this video it gets 500 million views we launch it it gets 10 views and you have kind of no idea what’s gonna happen and so for me it’s always like I think sometimes people get so invested in the outcome that they they miss the the fun and enjoy what you’re doing right I know that I’ve had times my afraid to do as well and so consciously with this as well as any launch you know I set big goals and big dreams have I that but they get closer and closer and closer I started carrying I start I don’t know my words like I I delete the the outcome goal in my head like I just like I don’t know what’s gonna be and if I if I set one and I don’t hit it I’m gonna be sad if I if I set one and I surpassed I’ll be happy but I don’t want that like I did the work no matter what and I want to be able to celebrate and enjoy so I try to like just get rid of the the outcome in my head so like going into I didn’t have an outcome really and so I get I was looking things like what’s the worst case scenario so for us and click phones case scenario IDs and we spend a lot of money Harmon brothers charge about half-million dollars for a video plus we threw a big party we hired influencers to come like you’re all said and done and I’m looked at the numbers yet it’s been a whirlwind week but I would say probably all in in this whole party promotion we were probably in close to a million dollars which is kind of crazy I think I told you guys before it’s the first time I’ve ever like just kind of put everything on black and or everything on red or however you say that I’m not of the terminology the gambling thing but it’s kind of rolling it typically with any kind of marketing and very a very direct response driven where it’s like we test smaller dollar a ting at two large back out and if that works and we scale right I said we’ve grown a company that’s how everything I believe is based on that so this is the biggest thing we’re like we’re putting a lot in without knowing ahead of time but it’s okay because you know we’re looking at what’s the worst-case scenario worst-case scenario average ClickFunnels™ member buy time average – I’m like 1,200 bucks or something like that maybe higher actually I’m sure it is higher we just have only been in business fact tomorrow’s our three-year birthday so we have a lot of people down three or so that number keeps growing over time but as far as we know now it’s over twelve hundred bucks a person so right worst-case scenario if this video brings us an extra thousand customers I get it broke even which is awesome so that’s really good but the the bigger win on my side there’s a couple a couple big wins one of it is really when this video went and done like when I went live we needed to simplify our process right the signup process the onboarding like all sorts of stuff like that it’s because of that I don’t sure if you guys logged in the click phones recently but a bunch of new stuff there’s a quick funnels game there’s new onboarding there’s things we call show me house or a little walkthroughs that have video and written out explanation on how to every single thing we instead of waiting at custom domains we click a button and you get custom domain we in fact give everybody the first custom domain for free like we had to figure out all these things to simplify the onboarding process so when this new onslaught of people came to be prepared for it and so one of the biggest things is like that’s something we know we need to do for probably two years we haven’t had the time or energy to do it and this forced us to spend that time and energy a lot of times we focus on stuff that’s urgent but not important what is something is like super important but it was never earnest we never got it done so by doing this and like calling our shot making this big video like it forced us to focus on the important that’s not urgent and we may it became urgent for us so we as a team killed ourselves as you probably saw the week prior we were here all night last week our whole tech team and dev team a design team and everyone was here he’s killing ourselves he had prepared for it and there’s a lot of valuations if we ever wanted sell ClickFunnels™ in the future when big things to look at is is churn rate and so we do our churn numbers or at night you know for us it was like if we if we could lower our churn by 2% like that alone would be worth and tens if not in the future hundreds of millions of dollars but tens like with like within the next 12 months and so that was our goal is try to lower it reduce churn by 2 points so we were as week ago today the viral video went live so we’re about a week ooh about a week so obviously stats aren’t perfect I don’t know the numbers but based on like the first fake hey it’s been live a week what’s what’s what’s his trending towards I don’t hold sigh I don’t want to tie an outcome to it yet but based on like the first 7 days are churned in the in the window and everything has dropped by more than 2% which is amazing especially as more than 2% so I’m hoping that over the next 30 days 60 days 90 days that sticks if it does like that alone is worth more money than I could ever have dreamt up so so that’s that’s in fact the thing is like right now I can’t talk about it for a long time to explain it all but basically where we are right now as we’ve grown we just passed 50,000 members last week actually week Oh yesterday 50,000 members but as soon as we had about sixty thousand members the new members we bring in and people we lose each day become about the same so it gets really hard to scale past about 60,000 members if we drop our chair by two percentage points our next peak is at 100 so almost instantly we get to about a hundred thousand members and so so that alone is like a big a big reason another big reason why we did the viral video is is unification that’s right word connection try building bringing people within the culture closer together and and building that bond I mean we had hundreds of people throwing viral video launch parties of their homes we had who threw the launch party and invited the whole internet and she had people driving four or five hours to her house come watch it with her we had a whole bunch thing and like it just brought our tribe as a whole together we streamed live presentations for me from the Harmon brothers and Gary Vaynerchuk last minutes like I it’s true my stuff too so we streamed his and we had like 20,000 people live between YouTube and Facebook they’ll watch this whole event go down I think how that does for a community tribe culture building within art with our eyes which was amazing so that was another big thing is like how does this become a bigger win for us as community second as houses how does make click phones even more fun like even worse we’re we’re a software product we’re competing with all these boring software products that are faceless nameless and boring we’re now it’s like we are interesting to talk about this video something people could talk about we can share they can show their friends their family and people come there it’s like oh that’s kind of what ClickFunnels™ does give us the the ability the timeliness to rebuild our sales funnel which was kind of typically I don’t like just like here’s a brand new funnel but we kind of had to so it gave us a chance to sit back and really kind of retweet things and built things really differently you’ve probably seen some of it and again I it’s only weekend so I don’t know super get conversion numbers but as a whole conversion and epcs and dollars in are up dramatically so like doing this thing wasn’t just like how many times times if you haven’t shared how much virally cuz they’re actually working like but it’s all these other pieces that are more important to us that it forced us to do so I want to want to put it out there it was funding us watching people’s Facebook the next day I think we had like 300,000 views the first day and people were like oh there’s stinko viral click throws burn their money and all these things I’m just like on my site laughing like you just don’t get it like you’re missing like people see what they understand but they’re missing the rest of it so that’s my goal this podcast always just like let you see the magician’s hands like what are we doing why are we doing it like why was that important why was I willing to gamble and risk that much money on something that that was that big of a risk it’s because there was because it forced us to take the important and make it urgent which is most businesses don’t ever do that and that’s why they they die like you’re telling my wife’s business just seen the video anyway sorry I buried next to my first wife’s business a my first wife yeah watch the video good quick ones like I’ll watch the via that the way that Joe can make more sense along the nude squirrels and everything else other good things did force internally it’s um we’ve always struggled as we recruited talented people don’t click funnels which is the majority come in but like developer something that that’s hard we’re now it’s like they see the video it’s like oh cool that’s the company that’s the culture that’s what I want to be part of us is helping us already a recruit talent and the other side it’s bringing customers at an incredible rate so prior to this launch depending on the ad set in the landing page to find that first you can click for also member on the low end was probably $60 higher end you 120 hundred thirty dollars to get a free trial that’s kind of in the window we played with and goes up and down and bounces all around that’s kind of in the window right now the videos is getting new customers at under $40 a piece on the paid side but don’t forget there’s also the free side is just bringing tons of free people so if you take the free and the paid mix them together our cost to acquire customer right now from the videos probably I don’t know again this is pulling out matter I’d say probably 15 to 20 bucks which is insane it’s a most asses in our world that I counter twenty eight hundred fifty bucks so yeah so there’s technical things we also as of today we should I check it we were almost at a million views so a million people have seen our sales video and now are aware click funnels which is crazy pulling up the actual thing to see we were we were thinking today we may pass a million views but it’s gonna be it’s gonna be tight one I don’t think none by now but by tonight hopefully we’ll we will have done that yeah we are at 927 thousand views so getting close to a million and this thing will continue to drive leads drive traffic drive sells today tomorrow for forever we knew with launching this it wasn’t gonna be like a poopourri or squatty potty viral that’s right like like to explain what click phones this takes more like they were kind of stressed out first like this as long as video we’ve done cuz it gets ya four minutes and it’s almost five minutes long and I was like yeah but it’s okay because I would have less people but the people who watch it understand we are and then they come in and they actually become customers and they stick so it weighs twenty people that it’s just funny to be I see all the trolls in our in commonly Oh like videos too long it you know that’s why it’s not going viral Mike dude I don’t need it to go viral like that that was the campaign we did to United community to get people excited so that people care when this came out all the other things is why we did it and why it’s already I get paid for herself within the first like 30 hours like it’s hate that part was done and now it’s like this tool ins acid that’s that’s becoming huge force okay so that’s why I want people understand like case they don’t because I know a lot people don’t quite get all the pieces so all this hope this kind of helps excuse me um so I’m watching the video getting so fun all right so what else what else doesn’t share it yet so that’s some of the the core things like a lot of people don’t ask me about it and like that the last time talked about is it gave us the ability to throw a party the wedding excellent parties because we’re marketers we should make an event out of everything we had an inner circle last week at James Mallon check who’s known James are a few Google Secret Millionaire he was he was on The Secret Millionaire this is like seven or eight years ago and memories no Secret Millionaire like most people like you’re on TV it’s like hey I’m on TV and that’s it but James really strategic about it and he actually threw a big party his house he invited me and a bunch of other people out to the house and and then did a whole launch around and he had what’s-his-name from lifestyles of the rich and famous robin Leach come to it and he had like all he threw a big event around it and made it fun for people like me to come and come to it and talk to and share it and like and and and made me become friends with James and connect with him and like care about him and his mission because he threw this big event around it that’s what we do this as well as like they gave us ability throw it an event the people whether they could come two boys you’re not could watch it streaming live and see me and see Gary and see all these people just so many cool so many cool again try building culture building things that he came from it so anyway throw an event like I told me if you don’t like launch your Facebook ad like like throw an event around it like if it’s gonna be good like you know invite ten other influencers Kevin your house the launch event together launch the outset together whatever it isn’t like make a party out of it and I was like they have a vested interest in your success they’re gonna watch they’re gonna talk that you’re always amazing things kind of come from it so ever in my office is out clapping we got some weird people over there anyway sorry what’s happening up there so anyway so I hope that helps you guys cuz everyone keeps asking me like what happened has been good for using a bad for you that’s one kind of give you recaps Minh freaking amazing for us again it forced is forced Lee important to become urgent it’s reduced our Chernus increased our it’s dropped our cost to acquire customer to increase our conversions creaser our average car self so many good things to come from it we built some amazing relationships people who would never know the ClickFunnels™ were sat in a room for five hours to listen and plays bubble soccer with us we won a Guinness Book of World Record playing the whole soccer I wield connection community the relationships I so many good things came from this thing and it’s it’s been amazing so yes it was good financially as well as all the other things and it keeps continue to grow I don’t know how many software companies have a sales video that has been seen a million times in the first seven days that’s rare and it was a sales video that pitched the product really really hard so you know I mean like sometimes they have these ones that I fancy because like like I remember grasshopper made a really cool viral video about mean entrepreneurs big entrepreneur thing the real asking is like grasshopper and that was it and IKEA that did that but didn’t sell the product like I I was like what’s grasshopper grasshopper not convict oh it’s like phone systems for entrepreneurial I didn’t know that this one is like a million people watched it and it’s pitching our product you know I mean like we have five 5307 shares 19,000 emojis and tell me comments anyway 1,870 comments like it’s all good for a lot of angles so hope that helps hope they give us some vision some some visibility on what we did and why we did it you know one of the big reasons why we do launch as much as I hate them and the stress that goes into them is it forces important to become urgent so I I recommend you guys to look at like what is the what are the important things you have you need duty right I know I need to do that and how do you make it urgent like how do you tight launch or something or I can event or something that forces the important that you know you need to do to become urgent you know for us it’s like the urges always launching new fun to launch a new theme I drive more so those things were urgent so we’re always doing them but it was like if I can do if I can really turn by two percentage points that’s worth more than you know ten thousand new customers to me so it’s like but I never did it cuz wasn’t urgent wasn’t I confront my face all the time right so since I made the important become urgent through this process it became urgent and it’s been huge since then so there’s go spend seven days I said I’ll PI do in the recap here in 30 days or so kinda keep giving you more stats they get clear numbers on doing it welcome to 5:30 this morning start on it I got to page four of 30 it’s now eleven thirteen I’ve been stalling as much as possible and now the stall is coming in I had to finish this today so this is my thought what if I raised the desk up and we bring back walking desk well I just forced me to focus because I have a TD some all little and this book like you’re walking and typing and Kevin’s gonna be filming yes I’m saying I don’t know I think it’s fantastic we’ve got it we’re gonna have we have a footage literally coming from every end terms of people so I 200 losers so our time is how are we gonna use it I mean it’s gonna be used for what you don’t have internet at home it is yeah I’ve been doing an end of it the answer is yes to all of it thanks great yeah nothing to worry about correct there’s any stress of lack of footage so the next seven days we have setting expert World Records winning bubble soccer we also have your launching the viral video launching viral video and a new sales letter and the onboarding process and your internal education system we’re supposed to build another 270 funnels or 70 funnel on Monday that’s gonna be awesome and then Tuesday we got a phat events for three event we’ve thought of something well we accomplished every single day is almost within a year so we’re gonna start calling these final years every day the beds three four years away so we’ve three up flat is three full failures before the next live event and then we have we have like half of a funnel year yeah between the event and when the viral video goes live at six four months six twelve months between the web’s and ends this is like the crazy point cuddles are breaking over yeah we’re starting to crack we know what to do because that’s all we got Leo I’m sugar painted all this white they’re still working over there and then over here we got the bathroom we’re working on this is our kitchen we moved all of our stuff in here since it’s kind of finished except already here yes I was excited final sell that one uh yeah so this is the craziest week for life’s crazy it’s absolutely surprise the big days talk about that person I work on more then so Friday we’re gonna have 400 people coming to Boise to basically have the most amazing experience ever where Russell’s getting speaking dear Dan Rutz gonna be speaking harm brothers gonna be speaking I’ll add the Boise State skybox up in the big box there we’re gonna launch the viral video oh my gosh it’s amazing and then we play the largest theme of bubble soccer in the history of the world which I win against the choral record yes that’s just one thing happens to that’s Friday let me tell you if these happen Portland so the development team are coming into port odd because the hurricane and you can’t fly and that sucks number two we got a three-day event fat about Tuesday Wednesday Thursday so we got 50 entrepreneurs flying in for the that event which I’m speaking at one two three four times oh and then we got the phone like a cookbook book we’re launching a book this week which is exciting and then I just I have to record a course to go with the book we’re gonna do car now I don’t know how many fun website templates designs I mean two under 70 funnels will get in live IT Scouts on Wednesday anyway this is this is next five day so we decided we started kick it off with some little vitamin C and some working out so you excited for that oh yeah baby can’t wait here we go

those same results here is your host Dave Woodward on your host Dave Woodward you guys are in for a massive explosion of a treat today because I am so excited to have Michelle Villalobos with us Michelle thank you so much for joining us thank you for having me I’m excited if you guys don’t know who Michelle is she is one of the most exciting fun people you’ll ever meet because of her background and just the exciting stuff she’s got done and she’s been business for ten years so she’s got a huge track record that way but started off as a former teacher magazine publisher the cool thing is she hadn’t beaten her brother in the Miami get her money it was Miami the Miami Herald business plan challenge that they do every year talk about fun especially when I’m back with my brother at like Thanksgiving dinner and I get to remind him that I’d beat him that would my sister I would be very very competitive as well but but in addition to that you’ve also start started the women’s success summit one of the largest ones down in Miami area and I think the part I’m most excited about is this whole idea as far as a superstar business model that you’ve created where a lot of our lot of people who are listening to this podcast are either small business owners or solopreneurs who are really trying to kind of grow their business and that’s an area that you’ve really focused on and really can be kind of the key that we’re going to spend time talking about today is how do you scale that type of a business and I love your thing you kind of coin as far as your small events it’s big money model which we’ll get to in just a second but with all that said anything else you want to add before we just jump right into the topic oh no I’m excited you tell me where to start I can tell we’re gonna have a good time already well I’d love to kind of talk about the idea as far as stealing yeah because I know this is a issue a lot of people have when especially for if one things we were talking about before we kind of started the show here and that was the business models that you work in so Michele the service professionals or those people who are trading time for money for all is a lot of people these days so how tell me what are some of things you’re doing to help that group of people all right so essentially I should probably just give you a little tidbit of my story so you can understand how I arrived at this awareness i-i’ve been in business since 2007 I very very intelligently timed at the beginning of my business right around the beginning of the major major recession so from the get-go my business was a struggle and I you know I didn’t really go into business with much of a plan I said I’m gonna be a marketing consultant and I’m gonna just help you know people that I know in this community I was pretty well known in Miami at the time had a lot of connections and I thought I’ll just put myself out there and let people know that I’m available for hire and they can bring me in and pay me loads of money because I have an MBA and this is gonna be just an amazing business and I’m never gonna have another boss again and my life is gonna be awesome and so for about six seven years I basically beat my head against the wall I networked to generate business I would I would as a consultant I would you know it’s a network and I’d sit down with people for an hour two hours three hours to try to understand what they needed and I would listen and I would give them all these great ideas and then you know we’d finish our meeting and then I’d offer to write them a proposal and they’d say sure yeah I’ll take a look at a proposal and I would belabor a proposal for another eight to eight or ten hours and and you know it was just such a terrible terror it was such a terrible way of running my marketing of generating new business of sailing of selling of closing you know it was a recipe for disaster on many many fronts both on a like on a money front right I wasn’t making as much money as I could it was very unleveraged unscalable on top of that I was exhausted and I was feeling like a failure right so in 2014 some some pretty major stuff went down in my personal life and I kind of took I checked out of my business for a couple months and when I checked back in it turned out I hadn’t made any in two months and so that was a huge aha moment for me because I realized that I had not built a business I had built a job and not even a very good job because I couldn’t even take a leave of absence from this job and I was a terrible boss I’ve rarely gave myself any days off or I started early in the morning I ended late at night I worked on weekends so I had the aha moment that my business was broken and after kind of you know licking my wounds a little I went and found some mentorship and I in in in in September of that year I shifted my business model and by the end of the following year I had a million dollar business which you know even I was more shocked than anybody that I had been able to pull this off because for seven years I had hovered around 100 200 I a couple years I made it up to like the upper twos but that’s it so for me to go from that to over to a million in 1415 months was was kind of wild and obviously people you know I was I had to go back and kind of reverse engineer what I did and once I did that I realized the number one shift that I made was just shifting my business model and so that’s when I became sort of a student of business models and now you know I find myself I’m kind of obsessed with finding creating and and understanding business models all over the place I love that Michele one of the things I run across all the time literally just had this conversation with Russell before I call Madison is seeing the different levels that businesses grow grow up to and then get stuck at yeah you’re right that for some reason that the solopreneur it’s you hit the the first stealing for most people always seems to yeah I just want to break through 300 oh yeah and then the next one you’re right it’s 300 and you get stuck in that to 253 for a while and then from from there is I want to go over five and then in five to a million but I can tell you I’d love the idea that you went from you kind of leapfrog a couple of those tiers it because the next thing I see is a lot of people who get stuck in that one two to three million and I know it I’ve been stuck there times where we had a business where it’s it’s balanced enough that two to three million range you just can’t get past that and then all of a sudden you jump in its then you hit the five in the tens and I think that as we were sitting there talking about the idea as far as for so many companies and business owners you know the first thing you got to kind of figure out is you know what and how you’re gonna sell it seems to be your zero to seven figures area but I really yeah I’m dying to find out I mean that’s a huge leap frog to go from that you know 150 to 250 range up to a million within 1415 months that’s yeah so what are some of the things that our listeners could glean from what you learned so the first one was that okay there there are so many I call these inflection points these inflection points were kind of the the big shifts that I made that led to this outcome so the first inflection point was I hit rock bottom I don’t know that everybody needs to do that but I know that that’s what happened to me I I hit rock bottom and at the same time that I hit rock bottom my my family ran into am on a financial challenge as well so kind of my safety net got pulled out from under me at the same time that I realized I hadn’t made any money and that I was kind of you know I hadn’t really built a business so all of that happened at once which which was actually a blessing in disguise because what it did for me is it gave me my fuel it gave me the desire and the want and the need and the must right that I didn’t have before before I was kind of floating along and I could manage and maybe I’d have up months and down months and maybe they kind of sucked and you know but I was getting by right but I hadn’t gotten like pissed off enough or I didn’t have a strong enough will or desire to really shift or change anything so that was the first thing was that there’s gotta be this kind of like oh you know this must and that I finally felt it that year the second big thing was that I started to oh I start this is good I got mentorship I started working with a mentor and specifically with a mentor who had a business model that I liked that I admired I looked at his business model and I thought I could do this right if they show me what I need to do like I could see my the business model I’ll just give you the brief version of it it’s a we did a small events model so the small events model is instead of we have been doing these huge 500 person events in Miami and instead these guys were doing these small 10 person events but the small 10 person events had much higher price point and they had much higher conversion on the back end into a high-level mastermind and I thought whom I could do that like I can run these three-day immersion events and deliver massive transformation to people and then offer something else on the back end of that so the mentorship was a huge piece of what I learned the the third piece is the the business model itself which was this small event model and I mastered another big inflection point was I had always thought that I was really good at sales I had you know I’d actually done some sales trainings in the past and I you know I considered myself I’d been in sales before I sold magazine ads I sold real estate I’ve sold art so I thought of myself as a sales expert but I didn’t realize that when it came to selling myself I wasn’t doing a very good job and so I learned a new sales process or a new sales like approach that was totally different than anything I’d ever been taught before it came from a place of integrity it came from a place of listening rather than sharing or talking so a very different approach to sales so those are some of the big big shifts that I made alongside with shifting that the business model I loved it I could say the part I really want to find out more about and that is this whole ideas for our small events I think you know for the most part a lot of people think of small events very first thing probably comes to mind are webinars and you know thinking in that area but you’re talking about physical events where you’re actually bringing people in correct exactly yeah yeah so the what happened was so I already had a business right it wasn’t a terrible business there’s a business that generated you know 200 to something a year for the for a couple years you know in that range and so it’s not like I was you know starving and it’s not like I had no brand I did and I knew how to get myself in front of groups of people so I already knew how to you know I knew the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce would put me on a stage if I wanted them to and I was going around and I was speaking you know at some events I spoke at entrepreneurs of that year and I got asked to speak at a women’s event and and so here’s a big big transition another inflection points this is good because I like odd numbers and this would make the fifth inflection point is that I you know I had I had gone to a National Speakers Association meeting my first one back in 2013 and I remember arriving there and after four days of talking to traditional speakers every single one of them told me like if you’re speaking for free you’re not a real speaker and I might go took such a big hit from that that I came back straightaway and I stopped I said no to the next engagement that come it came in front of me which was in front of 700 women entrepreneurs in Orlando Florida I could kick myself because I know that I would have made a million dollars with my new model speaking at that event but I digress my point is that I had I had believed this story that if you speak for free you’re hurting the industry you’re not a real speaker yada yada so I so I stopped doing that but then by 2014 in my desperation and also in learning this new business model I knew or my coach helped me know that if I could get in front of enough people I could pretty easily fill a 10-person retreat at you know a couple thousand dollars per seat I wasn’t a hundred percent sure that I could do it but they believed in me so much this is the value one of the many values of mentorship that you know and they held me to account for actually doing it that I went out there I did three speaking engagements and lo lo and behold 45 days later I had 10 people in my first retreat and I converted three of those people into my very first mastermind program so I to this day if I look back from the from those speaking engagements I’ve generated over 200,000 at least just from that one month that I went out and did those three speaking engagements awesome yeah it’s pretty wild right so obviously a lot of people thinking well how do I actually do this so what’s yeah how are you actually doing how are you get any small events and how are you making such big money on the back end of these things so it’s really easy that’s the that’s the crazy thing like here’s the thing Dave if you can if you’re somebody like me or you if somebody is listening and they’re somebody who loves to educate they love to teach they love to help people transform they love to you know even even people who do done-for-you services like you know anybody who can give enough value can give massive value in a three-day event and let me tell you it’s not hard to do you know we have a standard format that that we that we use it’s like here’s what you do on day one here’s what you do on day two here’s what you do on day three and it fits pretty much any I still haven’t run across a business model that I couldn’t figure out some way to work a retreat into the mix as long as the business is some sort of like speaker author coaching consulting expert type of model right but even for like an SEO company for example this could work where basically you give a massively intensive three-day experience where you deliver tons of value and you have outcomes right like our outcomes in our retreats is people walk away with a 90 day action plan they walk away with their pricing and their packages for their for their programs they walk away with their their brand either a new brand or their old brand revitalized they walk away with you know just like lots of outcomes right by the end of the second day they want to keep working with you that’s it just happens is you know as long as you’re delivering value and you’re honest and you have integrity you don’t even need to sell hardly which is what I love the most because I hated hated hated and I honestly still hate selling from the stage I’m not a big person you know I’m not someone who’s gonna love to get up and give a you know big sales pitch right there are people out there that love to do it but in my experience most of us prefer not to and so in this type of environment with a retreat you can make a very easy casual very good feeling offer and people will just at this point they will want to keep working with you and at that point you can sell them on a one-year retainer or a one-year coaching program or a one-year you know service contract whatever the one-year thing is that you can continue to deliver on the back end of that that’s where you sell it and I’ll tell you that in three years we started out we we had we got three of those people to sign up for our inner circle in that event and at our last event we had own we had over a 50% closed rates of people who signed up yeah and meanwhile this is coming from someone who used to do these 500 person events and we could barely get like a 20 percent conversion rate into our you know it was and it was so much stress we spent so much money on those huge events and there was so much pressure to then show up and and deliver and that would get in the way of like because I would be worried are we gonna make enough sales you know so I kind of babbling a little bit but I remember how hard it used to be and this model is so easy and natural and that’s you know this is the model that that we teach our clients that’s awesome I love the idea so I mean one of the things as you’re taking a look at this is providing such massive value I think that’s the thing you know at times especially in the service business that you’re talking about the speakers authors coaches when you’re trading dollars for time you’re always a lot of people seem to be a little heads in as far as what to actually give because they they’re afraid they don’t want to give too much yeah enough to offer on the back end so how do you how do you deal with that I I just don’t agree I just my philosophy has I used to I used to think that way too and now I know that the more value you deliver and and I don’t mean just in the form of of like information it’s really important that for people who are considering doing a retreat you know listen to this really carefully information not transformation and so I used to get those two things confused I used to try to dump as much information on people as possible it still worked right they still got massive value but you know they would be they would they would sometimes be more overwhelmed you know or they might even say oh I got everything I needed from this week and I’m good thank you so what I learned is that in the retreat we also create a space for transformation and the way that our transformation happens and the way that I would recommend you guys you know everybody listening go about it is to not only create the relationship between you and your client but also to create that container and that culture with among the clients too there’s value in the group right in the group format in the beginning I used to think that I was the magical unicorn source of all that all the value in the room and I’ve since come to learn that I am one piece of the magic and but the container itself the the people they’re the people I bring in you know the group itself creates a whole new level of value I call it leveraged value that did not exist without the group and so that’s why I’m such a big fan of this process or this of this model because it also takes a lot of the pressure off of that superstar quote unquote superstar individual that used to do everything himself or herself makes sense Oh totally and I appreciate you mention X I think that’s the scarcity mindset is what’s gonna kill any entrepreneur and I appreciate your addressing that I think it’s one of things I love most about you know watching something stuff you’ve been doing I know you’ve got some other events coming up here doing the exact same thing I really want to kind of talk to as you look at these types of events I mean obviously people are going with cash Dave this is funnel hacker right or how many world you how do you use ClickFunnels™ these are events and all that kind of stuff and I know obviously the there’s the ability to fill the events and using those types of funnels but tell me more specifically when you’re taking a look at these types of events how really are you getting those bodies there we have okay how do ya get people in button seats okay that’s a great question so first of all you know the the idea of butts and seeds to me is at least for me I associate it to a different type of model I associate it to kind of a a model a mass model a high-volume model a model where it’s where people are not as you know we call it we call them souls and seats right I’m sure we’re not the first person to use that but the idea is that you know we’re not selling $25 seats or even $100 seats at these events we are our approach to this model is a higher ticket approach but the model can still get translated into lower price points and so what I’m when I’m the way we fill ours might be a little different than somebody who does a lower price point but what we do is a mix obviously and I like to say you know it we don’t know we have not found the one solution that puts a hundred people into our event we found a hundred solutions that put one person into our event so we have a combination of things one of the things that we do and of course and it’s super important that people understand we’ve we’ve layered these things in over time so I’m gonna lay them out and you’re gonna think oh my god that’s so much but keep in mind you don’t have to do all of them and especially if you guys are funnel hackers we’re just getting into this click funnels funnel hacking game like you know you are you are way way ahead of us if you already know how to you know create a funnel and and you can absolutely use those to fill your events but what we do is we have a few things number one we use a filler a feeder event we do what we call a feeder event the feeder event is we’ve done half-day versions of it and we just started doing a full-day version of it the theater event is a low price-point event so anywhere from zero to maybe about $97 when it’s zero what we found though is that the people are not as qualified they don’t show up as much so we actually use a one dollar methodology where we give them the past for one dollar on the condition that if they don’t show up we call it a seat deposit if they don’t show up we’re gonna charge them the full amount I know there are other tricks out there but this is the one that we feel is the most the most aligned with our the way we want to do things so we don’t do the thing where you give the ticket and then you’re they buy the ticket then you pay them back we don’t do any of that stuff but what we do is we charge we when we have a special deal we do it for a dollar and then if they don’t show up we we tell them we’re gonna charge the full amount of the event so that does it we get about a 90 percent show up rate when we do that which is really high I know right so that theater event is called in our case it’s called speak to serve and the reason but from a branding perspective that aligns up because our signature immersion event our signature retreat is called superstar speaker Academy and it’s soon to be called superstar speaker business academy because we’re focusing really on the business model in the business plan so so we do speak to serve and then I do halfway through the day right before lunch I usually do a call to action for anyone who wants to have a strategy session with somebody on my team to learn about working with us so I do that as my plan B as my backup so by the end of lunch we’ve got a stack of people who are interested in having strategy session strategy session is kind of the the sales tool that we use when we’re selling a high ticket program or a medium ticket program then at the end of the day before the end of the day about 3/4 of the way through then I make an offer a very casual story-driven offer where I tell people you know if you want to come to our next superstar retreat you know this is the deal and it’s it’s it’s no longer than about a 15-minute offer and then from there we usually get you know handful of people that sign up and then a handful of people who if they didn’t sign up we have their strategy session that following week and so that’s that’s one of the primary things we used to fill the event the second thing we do is that we we we do so for example if we ever do like webinars which we do every once in a while and we do partnerships with webinar with people who want to host webinars with us we’ll sell a program called the superstar accelerator and with that program we give away a strategy session so though generally to kind of tie it up with a bow right now we generally we usually sell the high ticket the retreats with a strategy session with a phone call it’s it’s we have not been using like a funnel to sell our retreats we have a landing page but that landing page puts people into a strategy session because we’ve kind of mastered the art of selling over the phone and because this is really important Dave and because you want to be careful about who you put in the room you can’t just put if you’re gonna do this model if you’re gonna do the small events model and a retreat you can’t have 10 12 15 people you can’t have one bad apple because it will spoil the bunch right so you want to make sure that the people you’re putting in there are good people so this first for some of you click funnel people you know this would be a great model for you to use once you’ve sold like a lower like a 197 or a 497 program a great next step would be to put people into a retreat make sense I love it so tell me how long are your strategy sessions then 45 minutes usually and so they’re coming in basically for $1.00 to 97 dollars on the feeder events and then what are the actual what what it kind of the ticket prices you’re looking at for your small events so we usually do about 1997 to 2500 so 1997 to 2500 and that is for another it’s a three-day event well and here’s I’m glad you asked that because one of my the one thing that I that I noticed early on was that people will will many some people some people will resist investing that much in a three-day event they’ll be like what you know that’s a lot of money for three days and they don’t know any better right they don’t know that in three days you can have a massive transformation in your business you can totally shift your business model in three days you can totally shift your target audience your approach your messaging right so they’re just they don’t they don’t realize it and they get nervous right there’s no way we can get my outcomes in three days so so what we do is we Genet as a program that includes a three-day retreat I love that idea that’s really cool so is it that is the program delivered over online type of program is that yeah usually and it’s about 30 days like leading up to you’re getting all my tricks today so we usually and the reason for that is it saves us work at the retreat itself like if we give them we give them some prep work which is super fun it’s video based with me so it gets them ready for the for the event and then that means that once they get on site they’ve they’ve already thought about some things they’ve already done some of the pre work and the thing is if somebody is you know in is somebody’s committed which is part of our strategy session conversations how committed are you if somebody is super committed they’re not gonna have a problem doing the homework so you know when you get up to this level with people these are people who are good to work with you know generally that’s fantastic so then this to a higher ticket as well correct yeah and then they’re way more qualified right they’re they’re you know it’s not an easy jump to the next level but but it’s definitely one we’ve had people you know put it on a credit card we’ve had people pull it from a retirement account we’ve had people you know and I used to like think oh you know is that okay and now I’m like damn straight it is I just finished paying my fifty four thousand dollar loan for my MBA and nobody ever taught me how to sell crap in my MBA you know like we give people so much more value than any MBA program you know what I mean so you know I I know that when people want to really make a shift in their life and they want to invest in themselves I feel really good about them making that decision and doing that with me fantastis the investment of the next the next level with you so that one that one has kind of varied over the over time as well but somewhere between 25 and 35 thousand perfect that’s for the year which of course you want to position always as a monthly investment rather than the big you know the big big number you know so no I think that’s that is really really cool well I love it I love the idea I think it’s fantastic I would really hope anybody was listening to this especially if you’re in the authors if you’re in an industry right now where you’re trading time for dollars this is again I was so excited to have you come on and talk about this Michelle I think it’s just a brilliant model and again those people who’ve already using you know ClickFunnels™ in other types of funnels this can be part of the sales ladder it works out extremely well but I think it’s it’s just ties in so well to really
